Conspiracy Theories and Disinformation in the Islamic World from the Perspective of Western Countries and Their Foreign Policy

This Master's thesis deals with conspiracy theories and disinformation, a topic received with insufficient attention in the field of international relations. The phenomenon constitutes one of the most distinctive features of the Islamic world; therefore, it has significant importance for the Western foreign policy towards the region. The thesis is divided into four chapters and aims to provide Western countries with a set of foreign-policy recommendations in relation to the phenomenon of conspiracy theories and disinformation in the Islamic world. The thesis does so on the basis of a thorough analysis of the general mechanisms of conspiracy theories (1st chapter), and the specific conditions and circumstances of their emergence and dissemination in the Islamic world (2nd chapter). The study of the case of Aafia Siddiqui (3rd chapter) leads to the conclusion that the implication of conspiracy theories and disinformation in the activities of Islamic extremist groups represents a serious security threat for the Western countries, which the current policy leaves with no adequate response (4th chapter). As an outcome, the thesis proposes ten basic principles which should serve to the Western countries as a guideline for their approach to conspiracy theories and disinformation in the Islamic world. The main import of this thesis lies in it being one of the first attempts with regard to the researched topic to perform a comprehensive analysis with practical outcomes.

Political aspects of German - Russian relations within the Putin´s era and their main problems.

German Russian relations are key partnership for European security and energy. Many European states, including Czech and Slovak republic, are dependent on the German-Russian economic cooperation. Russia is for Germany historically a strategic partner and the importance of their relationship is rising currently, as well. The cooperation extends and the traditional contradictions are ignored. However, the Ukrainian crisis has brought a change of German policy towards Russia. The thesis describes the character of the relation and problems following the methodology of the international relations theories with real reflection. It analyses the relation from the political and economic dimensions and their close interconnection.

Contemporary U. S. Foreign Policy towards the European Union. Negotiation of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership

Transatlantic relations have a long tradition but their current state has recently come into question. This thesis is concerned with the contemporary foreign policy of the United States of America towards the European Union, focusing mainly on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) which has been under negotiation since July 2013. The first chapter provides the theoretical and methodological framework, explaining how the American political system and foreign policy construction work and suggesting how these can be analyzed. The following chapters deal with the TTIP itself, using mainly the sub-state level of analysis. Chapter 2 explains the overall agenda of the TTIP, analysing America's goals in the negotiations and the TTIP's possible impact on transatlantic relations. Chapter 3 investigates the role and goals of state actors in the ongoing negotiations, namely of the president of the United States; Congress and the United States Trade Representative and State Department. Chapter 4 is based on analysis of non-state actors involved in or affected by the TTIP negotiations.

The aim of the master thesis is to analyze the Visegrad foreign policies towards Kosovo and moreover the question of the development of its international status as a sovereign state. First, the focus is on the context of action of thoses four countries in a stategical and historical perspective. Then it is described how are constructed the foreign policies the Visegrad countries towards the specific question of Kosovo, taking into account the different national constraints and opportunities.

Vývoj vzájemných vztahů mezi USA a Íránem v kontextu zahraniční a regionální politiky v letech 1969-1977

This thesis focuses mainly on the analysis of diplomatic and economic relations between the world's militant leader USA and one of the largest Middle Eastern country, Iran. Their common relations in the early 60s developed by very good way. Thanks to Nixon and Kissinger they agreed several international agreements with well-evolving relationships, but in 1978 they had to break up on the basis of different intelectuall direction about the country's leadership and focus on future militant and economic policy. Unexpectedly acute situation as the Iranian revolution gave strict way "stop" their common relations and Iran is practically separated from the rest of the world.

Jednou z klíčových změn, které přinesla Lisabonská smlouva je vytvoření funkce Vysokého představitele pro zahraniční věci a bezpečnostní politiku, který předsedá Radě EU pro vnější vztahy a který je zároveň místopředsedou Evropské komise. Institucionálně se tak propojily dvě klíčové složky zahraniční politiky EU. Na tento post byla navržena dne 19. listopadu 2009 na neformálním zasedání šéfů států a vlád členských států EU v Bruselu Catherine Ashton z Velké Británie. Stalo se tak těsně před vstupem Lisabonské smlouvy v platnost dne 1. prosince 2009. Evropská služba pro vnější činnost (ESVČ), někdy také označovaná jako diplomatický sbor Evropské unie, je poté zcela novým útvarem jenž přináší Lisabonská smlouva.

Česká zahraniční politika: lidská práva, nebo ekonomické zájmy?

Podpořit potlačované aktivisty za lidská práva nebo se raději „dívat jinam“ v obavách, že klesne obchodní bilance s danou zemí? Tak by se asi daly obecně charakterizovat dva proti sobě stojící názorové tábory. Zástupci jedné strany kladou důraz na dodržování základních práv a svobod za každou cenu a bojují proti všemožným formám totalitních režimů, druzí hájí národní suverenitu a raději by se do vnitřních záležitostí obchodních partnerů nevměšovali. Česká zahraniční politika je podobně rozpolcená. Mnohdy tak dává vzniknout trapným situacím, kdy její představitelé, neschopni domluvit se na jedné názorové linii, stojí každý na jiné straně názorového spektra. Nepodílet se na obchodu se zeměmi s výrazným potenciálem růstu by z ekonomického pohledu nebylo moudré. Na druhou stranu, Česká republika jako signatář mnoha závazných mezinárodních smluv chránících lidská práva a svobody nemůže přehlížet často do očí bijící porušování lidských práv tamních obyvatel. K podobným debatám dochází i u našich sousedů. Například Polsko se jasně staví za podporu běloruských aktivistů bojujících proti režimu Alexandra Lukašenko. Slovensk oproti tomu svým silně „proruským“ postojem prosazuje ekonomické zájmy jako prioritní oblast své zahraniční politiky. Česká veřejnost se vyslovuje pro podporu lidských práv nad ekonomickými zájmy. Znamená to, že jsme se posunuli do tzv. postmaterialistické společnosti, společnosti pro níž nehraje prim pouze pragmatická politika?

This thesis tries to identify what's at stake of normalized relations between the United States and Iran since the Iranian revolution in 1979. The thesis tries to find out what are the key issues behind the failed relations between these two countries from the American point of view in order to determine whether normalized relations between these two countries can ever be achieved. It elaborates on four key characteristics of individual level analysis of foreign policy decision making applied on three key Presidents involved in foreign policy making towards Iran since 1979.

Předmětem diplomové práce ?Moderní francouzská politika ve vztazích k zemím Mašrequ? je analýza prostředků francouzské zahraniční a vnitřní politiky v aplikaci na tzv. arabskou politiku. Nejprve jsou zde nastíněny institucionální možnosti francouzské politiky v letech 1995-2005, v druhé části jsou analyzovány postoje Francie ke konkrétním problémům v oblasti jako jsou izraelsko-palestinský konflikt, otázka Libanonu a druhá válka v Iráku.
