Petr Pavlík, Ph.D. PRAHA 2011 2 ABSTRACT Split-up of family is not a gender-neutral phenomenon. In most cases, children are confided to the care of mother after the split-up. The family law recognizes also other forms of care, but both joint-custody parenting is rarely used in the Czech Republic. However, there is a tendency to change the state affairs in recent years. Supporters and opponents of joint custody voice their arguments in the public sphere, but relatively little attention has been paid so far to those who are supposed practice joint custody parenting, the parents. That is why, the focus of my research has been a comparison of experience of mothers and fathers practicing joint custody of their children in the Czech Republic. Concretely, I wanted to study whether, similarly with foreign studies, the mothers and the fathers experience joint custody differently. For example, whether the fathers have received a bigger support from their family and friends than have the mothers and whether the fathers experience less financial stress than the mothers. CÁPOVÁ, Adéla
The scope of this dissertation focuses on issues related to family planning from the men´s point of view. Studies on fertility and family planning were focused overwhelmingly on women. The men´s participation in studies on family planning and reproduction is increasingly recognized as important; both men and women make important contributions to bringing children into life. Data of qualitative research were collected in interviews with 170 Czech men aged between 25 and 50. A grounded theory approach was used to analyze the data. The results show strong social pressure determining the ideal form of material and psychosocial background for offspring confronts current generation with very demanding decision-making on parenthood timing. Although men are in need of negotiations, the responsibility and practical decision-making is mainly left up to women. The inability of men to father their own genetic child has been identified as a main concern and an important infertility topic. However, the results have shown a low attention paid to the prevention of disorders of the men´s reproductive health.
Absence of the father during raising a child within the relation to self-concept and creating the gender role of a child
HANUŠOVÁ, Martina
This bachelor's thesis discusses a phenomenon of father absence and its effect on selfconcept and shaping of child's gender role. The theoretical section focuses on a summary of both theoretical and practical findings related to the given issues. For example, circumstances of family disintegration, particularities of fatherhood concerning relationships with son and daughter and possible consequences of father absence in a life of a child are explained. Clarification of the term "selfconcept" and "selfevaluation" as well as depicting gender issues is also crucial in this thesis. Some of, both directly and indirectly, related surveys are included in this section. A possible impact of a biological father's absence on a self-concept and gender role of early mature individuals is illustrated in the practical section. The essence of this section is to find out whether it is possible to detect differences in selfconcept of individuals from complete and incomplete (alternatively supplemented) family and whether there are differences in perception of gender roles among individuals from each category. These presumptions were scrutinised (using Rosenberg SelfEsteem Scale and Personal Attributes Questionnaire) in a sample of adult individuals from complete (n=101) and incomplete or supplemented (n=48) families. Four hypotheses were proposed, none of which could be validated due to the results. The discussion deals with possible causes and limitations of these conclusions.
