The hospital of St. Paul in Prague
Katovská, Jitka ; Ebelová, Ivana (referee) ; Hojda, Zdeněk (advisor)
The institution of St. Paul 's Hospital in Prague belongs to social-charitable institutions that had taken care of the needed poor, ill, old, widows and orphans in the early modern period. The history of St. Paul 's Hospital had taken place in the area behind Poříčská brána and after the thirty year 's war in so called Temple. Certain amount of information, explaining not only economic and administrative functioning of St. Paul 's Hospital but also the history of day-to-day activities of the inhabitants, has been preserved in the hospital books in the Archive of the capital city Prague. The diploma thesis analyses material background of the hospital, the system of hospital donations, the administrative organisation with an accessible list of hospital clerks, and the quantity of care that the hospital was offering. In the list of the history of St. Paul 's Hospital there is also enumeration of duties and rules that had to be followed in order to stay in the hospital as well as references to the conditions and reasons for the admission of hospital applicants. The comparison with St. Catherine 's Hospital in Regensburg, which is unique for its parity functioning and both catholic and evangelic patients care, brings interesting evidence for the fact that Czech and German institutions do not differ in the basic...

Avionics terminology. Preparatory work for a German-Czech dictionary of avionics terminology
Kováriková, Eva ; Vachková, Marie (advisor) ; Berglová, Eva (referee)
Language for special purposes ("LSP") is a variety of standard language, whose primary objective is exchange of information among specialists (speakers of one or more languages). Among other things, the LSP speciality consists of lexical units, so-called technical vocabulary, included in technical dictionaries. This thesis deals with issues regarding the creation of a German-Czech Dictionary of Aerial Terms, a multilingual technical dictionary, which is primarily designed for translators, interpreters, students and readers of popular science texts and easier LSP literature. The core of the dictionary consists of vocabulary from the area of aircraft construction and types of airplanes, aircraft engine, equipment and emergency devices. By comparing concept systems from subareas of both languages, an essential analysis regarding questions in the fields of synonymy and equivalence was accomplished, and 500 vocabulary items with linguistic as well as encyclopaedic information were compiled. These terms will now be subjected to lexicographic and technical correction.

Regional movement in Moravia and the intellectual discussion of the "Moravia Question" in 1990-1992
Mikušová, Petra ; Pullmann, Michal (advisor) ; Kopeček, Michal (referee)
Efforts to revive the autonomy of Moravia and Silesia, abolished by the newly established communist dictatorship in 1949, became an integral part of the comprehensive transformation of Czech society following the Velvet Revolution of 1989. The efforts were closely related to a rise in regional consciousness, which marked the creation of new, or rather the redefinition of old, collective identities at a time of deep social changes. Popular view links these efforts to a couple of Moravian initiatives, which entered the public sphere in the early 1990s and later turned into political parties. The Moravian regional parties were able to win over parts of the Moravian and Silesian public to support their goals. The support even brought some of them seats in the Czech National Council and in top-level federal assemblies in the 1990 election, the first free election since the communist takeover. Moravian regional parties were represented in the Czech Parliament until 1996, yet they had failed to push through their goals and had been, especially after 1992, quickly losing their influence. Although the Moravian Regional Movement, as the parties and their activities came to be collectively referred to, gained no permanent ground, it still represented a significant aspect of the social development at the time. The aim...

New analogues of human insulin with covalently stabilized cyclic structures in the C-terminus of the B-chain
Kaplan, Vojtěch ; Stiborová, Marie (advisor) ; Flegel, Martin (referee)
Diabetes mellitus is considered as one of world's most common metabolic diseases. Complicated treatment and increasing number of newly diagnosed patients, suffering from diabetes every year, shows the importance and necessity of research in this area. Some of the major aims of this research are the development of new therapeutically utilized drugs and defining the problems of insulin acting in human body. Insulin is a peptide hormone whose main physiological function is to regulate blood glucose level in organism connected with large impact on whole metabolism. Insulin acts through binding of its monomeric form to the insulin receptor. Upon binding to the receptor molecule of insulin undergoes specific structural changes, which put the hormone into an active state. As of now, the structure of the insulin's active monomeric form is still unknown. By testing binding affinities of many modified insulin analogues there was discovered strong evidence between structural conformation of the C-terminus of the B-chain and binding affinity to the receptor. The most crucial data, necessary for this work, were observed from the structure of highly active insulin analogues that possessed unique B26 turn, recently prepared and described by team of Dr. J. Jiráček, IOCB AS CR. The aim of this work was synthesis of...

Spatial Concentration, Specialization and Economic Growth
Uhlířová, Petra ; Čadil, Jan (advisor) ; Vltavská, Kristýna (referee)
In various regions, the number of employees working in each sector is different. Some sectors may be in the region employ more workers than other sectors, indicating a higher degree of specialization. In each region, the degree of specialization varies, which could have a direct impact on economic growth. The aim of this study was therefore to investigate the relationship between the degree of specialization and economic growth of the region. It turns out that there is a positive relationship between the degree of specialization and economic growth, which means that the growth rate of specialization will lead to economic growth. It follows that the focus of the region, especially on one sector can lead to faster economic growth.

Wolfgang Koeppen's novels: "Littérature engagée" and experimental prose
Spěváčková, Tereza ; Tvrdík, Milan (referee) ; Stromšík, Jiří (advisor)
This dissertation discusses the post-war trilogy of the German writer Wolfgang Koeppen (1906-1996): Tauben im Gras (1951), Das Treibhaus (1953) and Der Tod in Rom (1954). The first part of this paper gives a political-cultural concise of the years 1945-1965, with an emphasis on the fifties. At that time Germany goes through the process of the economic-mirage and according to this the Germans get back their lost self-assurance. By the same mail is increasingly obvious, that the vision of a complete beginning failed and that the conservative policy of Adenauer follows the beaten track of the pre-war period. From urgent political questions of the year 1945 the German interest turns over to security their own prosperity, middleclass comfort. The horrors of war seem to be forgotten and instead of the "collective guilt" comes the "collective amnesia". This fundamental change didn't stay unnoticed. A critical reflection happend mainly through the young authors united in the Gruppe 47. Beside their line and on the edge of the contemporary literary events Wolfgang Koeppen delivers his loud protest against the post-war development of the German society. In the following part, which sets up the crux of the whole paper, is given an analysis of the individual novels in the context of the time of their appearance and the...

Masculine and feminine view of the Colonial War. (António Lobo Antunes and Lídia Jorge)
Márföldi, Nicole ; Dufková, Vlasta (advisor) ; Grauová, Šárka (referee)
The present thesis, "Masculine and Feminine View of the Colonial War (António Lobo Antunes and Lídia Jorge)" concerns the peculiarity of the masculine and feminine view of the colonial war in Portuguese colonies in Africa. This thesis focuses on two world-wide known novels: Os cus de Judas by António Lobo Antunes and A costa dos murmúrios by Lídia Jorge. The aim is to reveal that the standpoint was influenced by different social status that women and men held in Salazarian Portugal and in the colonial war itself. The introductory section is devoted to a brief summary of the Portuguese history which had a major impact on the contemporary national identity. The era of the Estado Novo, the Colonial War and the Carnation Revolution was outlined. The literary situation in Portugal after the Revolution was also shortly observed. The main part began with the introduction of António Lobo Antunes & Lídia Jorge and listed out their principal writings, concentrating primarily on Os cus de Judas and A costa dos murmúrios. Afterwards the focus turns to the different position of the women and men in the colonial war, comparing how it influenced their respective lives. While Lídia Jorge observes the destructive impact of the war on its surroundings, António Lobo Antunes views the injustice on the personal basis....

Characterization of enzyme reactor with immobilized alkaline phosphatase
Plecitá, Denisa ; Kučerová, Zdenka (advisor) ; Miarková, Eva (referee)
Phosphorylation is one of the most common of all post-translational modifications of proteins and has been found in nearly all cellular processes. Abnormal phosphorylation is associated with many serious human diseases. One of the approaches used for the identification of protein phosphorylation sites is based on the application phosphatases and the comparison of MS analysis of samples before and after the sample treatment with the enzyme. The use of phosphatase immobilized to magnetic carriers is advantageous in comparison with the application of soluble enzyme: e.g. easy manipulation of samples, an increase of enzyme stability and a possibility of repeated use of immobilized enzyme. Investigation of properties of enzyme reactor - bovine alkaline phosphatase from intestinal mucosa immobilized to magnetic particles is a subject of this Bachelor Thesis. The enzyme was coupled to cellulose magnetic particles after activation with divinyl sulfone via the protein free amino groups. p-Nitrophenylphosphate was used as a substrate for the phosphatase activity determination. The effect of different conditions on the activity of soluble and immobilized forms of alkaline phosphatase was compared: the effect of pH and Mg2+ ions, storage stability and thermostability and possibility of repeated use of the...

Fall of the German empire and some aspects of the social-cultural development of Weimar Republic on the pages of selected memoir literature
Rok 1918 znamenal mezník v politických, hospodářských a sociálních dějinách Německa.

Medicines and seniors in Bayern - München, Germany
Eibl, Florian Leonhard ; Solich, Jan (advisor) ; Práznovcová, Lenka (referee)
The aim of the thesis was to analyze the importance and the position of German elders within the state and the society. The reasons for ageing of the population in the above mentioned society were described clearly. Later there was discussed negative influence of this demographic phenomenon on the society and the social system. The author tried to look for the measures to solve this issue and explore their acceptability. Here we can see that the elders are not only one important part of the state and society but it is necessary to solve individual troubles of this social group as well, mainly their diseases and fears. This should lead to better understanding of the elderly generation. The thesis supposes not only to pick up and analyze the results in the group of 300 elders in Munich. Obtained results will be utilized in confrontation with similar analyses performed in Prague, maybe in Hradec Králové. This way it would be possible to show the differences between examined groups and give the outcomes to formulate general projects in order to improve the pharmacotherapy in the elders. As real needs of the elderly are a little bit neglected in our modern and quickly living society, the author believes to have succeeded in the support for better understanding in the field of needs of the elderly...
