Redmerová, Monika ; Pospíšilová, Tereza (advisor) ; Vávra, Martin (referee)
The term "Volunteering" as well as its sence has become well-known in today's society. Less knowledge we have about the process of preparations of volunteers before their final involvement in specific projects. This work focus on preparations of volunteers in organizations who operate in the field of humanitarian aid and development cooperation outside the European Union. The aim of this study is to survey particular phases of the contact between organizations and their volunteers especially the phase of training before sending the volunteers for their mission abroad. Volunteer's comments on the methods of preparations form a part of the work too. To reach the objective, the qualitative research was held, so that it was possible to describe the operating methods in focused organizations. During the research, the direct contact with volunteers and emloyees of organizations played an important role. The work is concluded with the survey of ascertained facts and resulting recomendations. Keywords: Volunteering, volunteer management, humanitarian aid, international development cooperation, volunteer preparation, training

Beyond horror: or, exploring the connections between E.A. Poe's writtings and A. Hitchcock's cinema
Martináková, Iva ; Roraback, Erik Sherman (advisor) ; Veselá, Pavla (referee)
80 Abstract in English The aim of this thesis is the exploration of horror from a wider perspective in terms of theory, as well as in specific works of Edgar Allan Poe and Alfred Hitchcock. Ultimately, this thesis attempts to show a solid trajectory of horror across a wide temporal range, in order to demonstrate the connections of horror and inherent human psychology, as well as to demarcate the boundaries of horror for the purpose of showing Poe's and Hitchcock's surpassing of these limits, constituting the title of this thesis. The structure of the thesis similarly attempts to achieve the above by establishing the main theoretical background in the first chapter, the main body of the literary and film analysis largely present in the second chapter, and the third chapter capturing the contextual differences between Hitchcock and Poe, essentially arriving at the most significant findings and simultaneously providing a concluding exploration of the authors' achievement to go beyond the boundaries of horror. The first chapter, then, mainly draws from the concept of the Sublime, as elaborately described by Edmund Burke, as well as the concept of abjection discussed by Julia Kristeva. These form the main basis of horror creation, and it is shown in the second analytical chapter that both Poe and Hitchcock...

Income Elasticity of Money Demand: A Meta-Analysis
Sedlaříková, Jana ; Havránek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Šopov, Boril (referee)
The income elasticity of money demand represents an important economic variable which affects money demand function. Precise evaluation of money demand is important for central banking and for determining the transmission mechanism. Nevertheless, there is no general agreement on the exact structure of the function of money demand and income elasticity values neither in theoretical nor practical context. Many different economic theories concerning this field were developed by various economists during the 20th century. There was also a large amount of empirical research whose goal was to estimate the value of income elasticity based on real economic data. However, these studies are characterized by strong heterogeneity of the respective results. The method of meta-analysis is considered to be an effective statistical instrument that allows systematic evaluation of these inconsistent estimates. This method was applied to the dataset consisting of 985 empirical estimates from more than 70 primary studies. The publication selection bias was detected only in the case of using broad monetary aggregates. The resulting estimates adjusted for publication bias range from 0.784 for narrow monetary aggregates to 0.93 for the broadly defined money. In addition, meta- regression analysis revealed correlation...

International nature of agreements concluded by international non-governmental organizations
Lehkoživová, Ivana ; Honusková, Věra (advisor) ; Faix, Martin (referee)
The Nature of International Law in Agreements concluded by International Non-governmental Organisations The aim of this thesis is to examine the international nature of agreements concluded by international non-governmental organisations (hereinafter referred to as INGOs). Do INGOs enter into contracts ruled by public international law? As INGOs regularly participate in international conferences, this first research question implies others: What is the role of INGOs in international treaty - making? Are they or might they become parties to "traditional" international treaties? With regard to the method of work and sources, the study is an analysis based on various academic publications including books and articles and detailed research into particular agreements. The work is composed of four chapters. Chapter one is introductory and defines the term INGOs, provides short information on their history in international law and describes their current position in international law. Chapter two discusses the issue of subjects of international law with respect to INGOs. The possibility of INGOs being the subjects of international law is investigated. Chapter three concentrates on international treaty-making. This chapter is divided into five parts aimed at characterising this general topic in accordance...

The structure of household expenditure with regard to their income situation
Babáková, Andrea ; Bína, Vladislav (advisor) ; Bartošová, Jitka (referee)
Presented thesis is focused on searching for differences and investigating dependences between costs and revenues of households, mainly the housing expenditure are emphasized. The data were extracted from survey made by Czech Statistics Office, especially from sample survey about revenues and living conditions of households called "Životní podmínky 2005". The data are analyzed by means of linear regression and analysis of variance. The above mentioned statistical methods are used to investigate the level of dependence between incomes and housing costs with regard to various factors e.g. size and type of municipality or the type of house in which the particular household is living. The obtained results display slightly growing dependence between incomes and revenues. Furthermore a small survey of the particular households was made on which the selected linear regression model (obtained by the analysis of ČSÚ data) was applied. The comparison of both surveys showed rather insignificant differences.

Modern types of derivates and their reflection in positive law
Laga, Vojtěch ; Kotáb, Petr (advisor) ; Kohajda, Michael (referee)
Abstract/ Modern Types of Derivatives and its Reflection in the Positive Law The purpose of my thesis is to provide an introduction to modern types of derivatives and analyze its regulation in the positive law of the Czech Republic. The reason for my research is an absence of literature on modern types of derivatives in the Czech language, as well as the fact that the legal nature of derivatives remains still unclear. The thesis is composed of four chapters. Chapter One provides an introduction into derivatives in general. It deals with the notion of derivatives and classifies them as an innovative instrument of the capital market. It also tries to analyze various definitions of derivatives, and although it concludes that there is no ideal, all-encompassing definition of derivatives, existing definitions usually give fairly good idea about what the derivatives are. Chapter One further deals with the regulation of derivatives in the Czech law (importantly, its tries to rebut an opinion that derivatives fall under the regulation of hazardous activities), it focuses on economic function of derivatives (namely hedging and speculation), it explains and justifies the division of derivatives into "classic" and "modern" or "exotic" derivatives, and finally it describes the main types of classic derivatives and its...

Comparing Neurophysiological Methods to Functional Therapy in Treatment of Cerebral Palsy from Newborns To Adolescents- A literary review
Smetana, Christer ; Nováková, Tereza (advisor) ; Véle, František (referee)
Title: Comparing Neurophysiological Methods to Functional Therapy in Treatment of Cerebral Palsy from Newborn to Adolescents Investigative questions: What are the scientifically proven advantages of Neurophysiological Methods and Functional therapy, respectively? In what situations would one treatment approach be more beneficial than the others? Background: Cerebral palsy is the most prevalent of the chronic childhood motor disability disorders, with a prevalence of approximately 2 in every 1000 live born. Definitions and classifications have been varying for the last 150 years, leading to a great deal of confusion and controversy in this field of paediatric medicine, resulting in varying recommendations in terms of therapy. In complex cooperative therapy team is necessary in each individual, and in terms of physiotherapeutic treatment, two big and very distinct blocks of treatment philosophies are found, namely the Neurophysiologic Method and the Functional Therapy. Previously, no definite recommendations towards therapy has been provided, and many studies simply conclude that the field of cerebral palsy, despite centuries of attention, still lacks substantial parts of information to conclude with anything in particular. The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate and compare the Neurophysiological...

Technical analysis of stock trends using artificial neural networks
John, Pavel ; Petříčková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Pilát, Martin (referee)
Although the discipline has not received the same level of acceptance in the past, the technical analysis has been part of financial practice for centuries. One of the big issues was the absence of widely respected fully rational background that is necessary for the modern science. The presence of geometrical shapes recognized by a human eye in historical data charts remained as one of the most important tools till the last decades. Nowadays, it is possible to find commercial trading software which employs neural networks. However, a freely accessible tool is difficult to obtain. The aim of this work was to investigate the usability of applications of neural networks on the technical analysis and to develop a software tool that would implement the knowledge acquired. An application was created and a new promising trading strategy proposed along with experimental data. The advantages of the program presented include the ease of extensibility and a high variability in trading strategies setting.
