Franc, Aleš ; Pargač, Jan (advisor) ; Šalanda, Bohuslav (referee) ; Uherek, Zdeněk (referee)
in English The dissertation thesis deals with foreign students in the Czech republic, specifically immigrant students coming from all over the world - from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine and then from China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. The basic objective of this work is not a real attempt to display the everyday reality of certain groups of migrant-students of Czech language in the Czech Republic in such a way that it only focuses on the problems and barriers they encounter in their studies in the Czech language. It also deals with their adaptation and integration into mainstream Czech society. At the same time, however, we realize that this work is only a partial contribution to the knowledge of migrant-students' life in the Czech environment between 1998 and 2011. This work is based on relevant literature and the research is based on interviews with students and teaching observations. The choice of qualitative methods was intentional to serve our matter the best, since there has been a lack of research in this particular area in recent times. This focus on qualitative techniques is also dependent on the characteristics of the sample group, especially in the linguistic and sociocultural realm. The research was carried out at the Institute of Language and Training of the Charles University in Prague...
Prejudice of Majority against Foreigners
Boštíková, Marie ; Bittnerová, Dana (advisor) ; Rendl, Miroslav (referee)
This thesis deals with the prejudices of the Czech society against foreigners, namely against Ukrainians. The observed problem is viewed in terms of both the majority opinion and foreigners' experience. Prejudices of Czech society are reflected by Czech and Ukrainian university students or college students or postgraduate students studying in Prague. The work is divided into two parts. The theoretical part presents Ukrainians living in the Czech Republic. Although the history is mentioned, this part deals mainly with the current situation of migrants who have come to the Czech Republic after 1989. The area of law that affects foreigners is also briefly outlined here. However, the central theme is the issue of attitudes and prejudices. The empirical part describes the objective of the work, methods of data collection and analysis and the research sample, but the main task is to present qualitative research data that familiarize us with the view of Czechs and Ukrainians on the prejudices of the Czech society. Both perspectives are compared to find some potential similarities and differences. The obtained results are then briefly summarized and discussed with findings from scientific literature. Keywords: Ukrainians in the CR, prejudices, attitudes, migrants, integration

The thesis not only investigates the conditions of the market for remittances in the CR as a whole but also tries to capture the key determination of remittances and specific remitting behavior of the migrants, i.e., Mongolian migrants. Empirical study with both qualitative and quantitative research methods is carried based on the data collected by author himself while participating as an interviewer in a survey on market for remittances in the CR. The study reveals that although the market transparency and infrastructure is satisfactory, the level of competition is relatively low. But certain money transfer operators (MTO) for example "Chequepoint" a.s employs active marketing strategy and it already realized most favorable MTO among Mongolian migrants. Also the study highlights that the policies related to customer protection issues should consider on the financial literacy and language barrier of the migrants as well. Otherwise it is not possible to implement policies on customer protection issues....

The publication is divided into two main parts. The first part, mostly theoretical, contains an analysis of labour migration in the Czech Republic in a broader context, focusing on the state of social integration of migrant workers, their rights and their position within the Czech labour market, the issue of illegal work and its prevention, as well as an analysis of the key issues in the field of labour migration and integration in the European context, and in both partner countries participating in the project - Austria and Portugal. The second part presents the comparison of the non-profit sector functioning in the area of labour migration in the countries represented in the project, emphasizing the interdependence of their activities with labour offices and other entities in Portugal and Austria. It serves as a basis for proposals and suggestions for creation and development of similar forms of cooperation in the CR. This section describes the current status of Czech NGOs in the process of social integration of migrant workers in general, their services provided to target groups and their future perspectives in this field. The publication also includes legislative and other recommendations that could contribute to the facilitation of social integration of foreigners in the Czech Republic in the future, in terms of a labour market. Another noteworthy part comprises casuistic cases that are discussed in the publication, as well as inspiring interviews with consultants from the Austrian organization and with mediators of Portuguese organization. These experiences from abroad are then complemented with an interview related to the recently introduced practice of cultural mediators in the Czech Republic.
