Initiation of the Germanic Hero in Fornaldarsõgur
Fryje, Jakub ; Starý, Jiří (advisor) ; Antalík, Dalibor (referee)
The main theme of this paper is the initiation of the heroes from two important fornaldarsõgur: The Saga of the Võlsungs and The Saga of the King Hrólf Kraki. These heroes are called Sigurð, Sigmund, Sinfjõtli and Hõtt. The tales of these four characters acting in the stories that are preserved in the sagas we divide into three phases, which can be designated like separation phase, liminal phase and a return. In this case we are inspired by the conception of Arnold van Gennep, who dividided the rites of passage in this manner. The liminal phase of the heroic story is most important for us. It is the core of the initiation process, which is experiencing the hero, and the core of the rite of passage as well. In our stories is significant for the liminal phase for example a monster killed by the hero, hero's encounter with a numinous beings, or hero's abidance in certain liminal state. The main objective of this thesis is using primary sources and secondary literature by scholars such as Otto Höfler, Victor Turner or Jens Peter Schjødt, to create consise analysis of the liminal phase of three stories about germanic heroes, which is possible to designate as the initiation texts. This analysis should clarify, how these initiation texts relate with the initiation rituals and - in certain cases - with the...
Catechesis as an Introduction to the Mass: A Protestant's view
Živný, Tomáš ; Beneš, Ladislav (advisor) ; Opatrný, Aleš (referee)
Katecheze jako uvedení do mše : Očima jednoho evangelíka Summary Catechesis as an introduction to the Mass: A Protestant's view In my diploma thesis I address the relationship between catechesis and the Mass, namely how the believers of the Catholic Church are acquainted with what is (or is meant to be) the centerpiece of their religious life. In the first - theoretical - part of the paper I first explain what the Mass is and how it has evolved historically, which gradually leads me to the analysis of its present form and content. I then turn my attention to catechesis, whose historical development I outline as well, and to its place among the various services of the Church. I also mention the close connection between catechesis and liturgy, which both contain a dimension of the other.Another common feature of catechesis and the Mass is that they are both Christocentric, yet at the same time anthropological in their focus on man. In the second part of my thesis I deal with the practical form of introduction to the Mass, which takes place with the help of catechetical aids (catechisms, books or coloring books). I analyze these aids and then conclude with the mention of the liturgical basis of the catechesis of converts and of those who are preparing for their First Holy Communion. Keywords catechesis, Mass,...
Regulation of cell cycle in Bacillus subtilis.
Zelenka, Tomáš ; Lichá, Irena (advisor) ; Harant, Karel (referee)
2 Abstract Relations between several events running in bacterial cell during cell cycle were the subject of many studies during last years. More advanced techniques showed, that bacterial cell life has much more variable factors, than we supposed before. Relatively recent researches managed to reveal function and in few events molecular principle of several mechanisms coordinating those events such as progression of replication and its initiation, segregation of newly replicated chromosomes and after all synchronization of complex cell division machinery. Furthermore it showed variability of those events during changing living conditions of the cell. Keywords: Cell cycle, regulation, initiation, replication, segregation of chromosome, cytokinesis, Bacillus subtilis
Symbolism in Ibn Sina's Work: Interpretation of Initiation Stories
Vitásková, Magdaléna ; Kropáček, Luboš (advisor) ; Ostřanský, Bronislav (referee) ; Pirický, Gabriel (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to interpretate the stories The Living, son of the Vigilant, The Bird and Salaman and Absal, written by one of the greatest scholars of medieval Islamic East, Ibn Sina (980-1037). Unlike his philosophical and medical writings these stories have a different character and create a coherent narrative cycle. Based on their themes, narrative methods and symbolism they should be in my opinion called initiation stories. The main aim of this dissertation is thus to verify this hypothesis by means of the hermeneutic interpretation. These stories, read as a coherent cycle, show typical features of initiation genre: the hero can't find his way, his existential condition makes him desperate, he is consumed by strong desire for reaching a higher ontological degree, meets an initiator, goes through initiation rites of passage, crosses the border between the uninitiated and initiated space, reaches the final initiation through symbolic death. The interpretation of each of Ibn Sina's three writings reveals an inner coherence of the stories: The Living, son of the Vigilant focuses on the motive of an initiator-guide and the description of the stages on the initiation way leading upwards, The Bird tells in an emotional way about the state preceding the initiation and then concentrates on...
Effect of initiation on bulk polymerization of styrene
Vojáček, Jakub ; Běťák, Lukáš (referee) ; Kučera, František (advisor)
Bachelor thesis summarizes in the literature part findings on field of the radical initiation of styrene bulk polymerization. Especially polymerization using mono- and bifunctional initiators, further fotoinitiation and thermal initiation of styrene polymerization. The practical part is focused on monitoring the effects of polymerization conditions on monomer conversion, molecular weight, density and viscosity of the prepolymers. Experiments were performed with monofunctional initiator (dibenzoylperoxide), at atmospheric pressure, with polymerization temperature 91 °C, and various concentrations of initiator. Determination of monomer conversion was carried out gravimetrically, the density was determined by titration method and viscosity using the Stokes equation. Molecular weights were then calculated using Kuhn-Mark-Houwink-Sakurad equation.
Research of Application of Reiki Health Energy to Clients with Somatic Illness.
CIMBOLINEC, Vladimír
This Bachelor thesis engages in effect of the healing energy REIKI on the particular somatic disease of clients, who I was handing this energy to.The goal of my thesis is to describe the ways, in which you can effectively achieve significant health improvement of the clients with specific diseases. In my thesis I used the method of the qualitative research, specifically the method of the anchored theory. The part of the thesis is the summary of particular diseases of clients and their condition after REIKI sessions. The observed array was made by eleven clients with different somatic diseases. There were males as well as females in age of 7 till 84 years. There are described the methods of energy using. The important part of the thesis is the description of REIKI symbols used during the sessions. The theoretic part of the thesis is dedicated to the description of ancientart REIKI, which was rediscovered for purpose of effective treatment of various diseases in order to cure as many people as possible without the use of pharmaceutical preparations. In conclusion I mention a sort of vision of the near future of application of healing energy REIKI in Czech republic.
Aspect of initiation in Shamanism: Crosscultural comparison
KOČÍ, Jan
This thesis deals with the shamanism and with the initiations of the shamans. In the first part the author describes these initiations at large and evokes the phenomenon of shamanism in general. The following part pursues the descriptions of the initiations in different places in the world. The selected cultures in this thesis present the traditional communities where the shamanism has a fixed position in their social structure. The author approaches the processes of initiation of shaman in the five ethnic groups of the three continents. He starts with the description of the three Siberian ethnic groups, than he continues with the North American one and he finishes with the South American one. The author emphasizes the way of the election of shaman, how and when these elections are created, and the process of the initiation ? he focuses on the visions and the rituals. In the final part of the thesis the author compares the initiations of particular cultures. These comparisons are based on the social relations between the shaman and the community.
Transgranular and intergranular failure competition as a manifestation of steel degradation
Dlouhý, Ivo ; Hadraba, Hynek ; Strnadel, B.
Main purpose of the work was to quantify causes and characteristics that control the intergranular fracture initiation and occurrence of this fracture micromechanism in competition with cleavage one. A CrNi steel of commercial quality and the same steel with increased content of impurity elements, Sn and Sb, was used. Step cooling treatment was applied in order to induce intergranular embrittlement and brittle fracture initiation in both steel melts. For fracture toughness determination standard bend specimen and pre-cracked Charpy type specimens both tested in three point bending were applied. Relation of cleavage fracture stress and critical stress for intergranular failure has been followed showing capability of this parameter for quantification of the transgranular/intergranular fracture. In order to characterise the quantitative morphological differences in fracture surfaces fractal analysis was applied.
