Representation of Subject in Alexandra Berková´s Proses

This thesis with help of literary literature is at first focused on the way of displaying the subject in post-revolutionary Czech prose (from anti-infective output till output which is accented on mimetic stylization). The social situation before and after year 1989 is taken into consideration. Thanks to this theoretical background is the attention focused on the way of existing of the sujbect in five short proses by Alexandra Berk and its interpretation related to living reality. Practical analysis of the texts is led on narratology and theatological meaning (using intertextual relations, resp. metatext relations). Before the analysis it will briefly introduce the author, her life and activity.

The conception of a female protagonist in Arnošt Lustig' s literary work.

The diploma thesis deals with the personality of Arnošt Lustig and his work. Apart from the biographical section, it focuses on the specific features of his literary work, including characteristics of the author's style of writing and linguistic means. In particular, it focuses on the analysis of several selected works where the central figures are women. It records how the Lustig's life is experience was reflected in the selection of these female figures. In the center of interest is the motive of the female heroine, the characteristics of the individual types, interpretation of their thinking, behavior and negotiation against the background of the historical context.

Short Stories by Božena Němcová

This diploma thesis is focused on a comprehensive analysis of the characters in the stories by Božena Němcová. The theoretical part is devoted to the theory of the formation of literary figures. In the practical part we follow the characters affected by mutual relations, environment and the society in which they live. We concentrate on the most important author's stories: Pomněnka šlechetné duše, Baruška, Chudí lidé, Sestry, Dobrý člověk, Divá Bára, Karla, Chyže pod horami, Cesta z pouti. In the stories Němcová offered a view of the Czech country people, patterns for her work Němcová acquired during her travels and from the telling of local residents. In her works, Němcová leaves her characters speak the local dialect, picturing local costumes, customs and culture. The characters are emotionally rich, elaborated, credible, partly idealized. In the work the author expressed several ideas which the society should follow.

Characters and stories of Prague's underworld as reflected in late 19th and early 20th century fiction

The diploma thesis deals with various genres which, at the turn of the century, depicted life of the Prague offscourings, i.e. socially excluded and frequently humiliated inhabitants of Prague. The main objective is to give a characteristic of a homeless character, the man on the street, also known as the "Prague vagabond", a character which regularly appears in literature of the period. The thesis discusses several specific Prague vagabonds whom it subsequently compares to the literary type of vagabond (the author used Daniela Hodrová's theoretical findings about the literary type) and shows the impact the city environment has on him. Besides that, the author follows the way the city itself is described as the vagabond of Prague is closely connected with and to a large extent determined by his home city. Primarily, the thesis works with fiction (although a few plays are included as well) and aims to focus on authors of the period who are not widely known today, e.g. R. J. Kronbauer, K. L. Kukla, V. Typology of chosen women characters in the Czech literature of the second half of 19th century

The diploma thesis deals with the typology of nine chosen literary women characters of the second half of 19th century Czech literature. The woman character from the Čtyry doby short story by Božena Němcová, Liduška and Lenka by Vítězslav Hálek, lady Ruska, miss Máry and the unnamed protagonist of the U tří lilií short story from Povídky malostranské by Jan Neruda, Caterina and lady Dragopulos from Jan Maria Plojhar by Julius Zeyer and Lucy from Magdalena by Josef Svatopluk Machar, are at focus. The theoretical part outlines the issues of literary styles of the second half of 19th century Czech literature (namely Romanticism, Realism, Parnasism). Also it delimits the extension of markers for interpretation of women literary characters and, moreover, it briefly presents the women social position in 19th century society. In practical part, the thesis aims to analyze thoroughly the chosen characters, trying to point out all the common features as well as the differences among them. The thesis concludes with the comparison of all chosen characters and, at the same time, it sums up the main changes in the depiction of a women literary character throughout the century.

Characters in Vasil Bykav's works

This bachelor thesis deals with literary analysis of characters in works of Belarusian writer Vasil Bykaŭ. Despite numerous translations, his works are not yet thoroughly researched in czech context. Primary this thesis is focused on contribution of the current narrative analysis which has been neglected. First chapter outlines Bykaŭ's works with emphasis on his approach to shaping the characters in the broader context of the main tendencies of Soviet war literature of the second half of the 20th century. The following chapter explains the most common procedures of the construction of Bykaŭ's characters and describes an analysis of other narrative categories which are essential for complete character modeling. The third chapter focuses on a brief typology of the characters appearing across Bykaŭ's works; in the centre of attention, there are the ways in which the author transforms and enriches the canonical index of socialist realism (war literature) characters.

Paranormal romance: an attempt to define the subgenre in the context of young adult literature

This diploma thesis thematically follows up one of subgenres of young adult popular literature - paranormal romance. Its main aim is to create a comprehensive definition of this subgenre on the basis of interpretation of representative sagas - Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn), Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick (Hush, Hush, Crescendo, Silence, Finale), Nightshade by Andrea R. Cremer (Nightshade, Wolfsbane, Bloodrose, Snakeroot), Wings by Aprilynne Pike (Wings, Spells, Illusions, Destined) and Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake (Anna Dressed in Blood, Girl of Nightmares). The thesis was divided into eight chapters. In the first chapter we have outlined the historical development of paranormal romance, in the second part we focused on its genre characteristic. In the third and fourth chapters we tried to create a prototype of heroine and hero of this subgenre. The fifth part is about the steady plot schemes in paranormal romances. In the sixth chapter we have tried to determine a model form of relationship main pair of lovers in the analyzed subgenre. Between Subjectivity and Object: Self in the Discourse of Modern Japanese Literature

(in English): This thesis is devided into three parts. In the fist part, the development of literary discourse in Japan between Meiji and postwar period is described, with emphasis on the development of literary character and Subject in a work of literature. The second part theoretical apparatus for studiying and analyzing literary character is introduced, using contemporary literary theory. In that part relationship between literary character and its subject is also included. In the third part, these findings are applied on a specific literary works of Japanese postwar literature, on which development and changes of literary character are observed. The three analyzed works here are Kamen no kokuhaku by Mishima Yukio, Tanin no kao by Abe Kōbō and Man'en gan'nen no futtobōru by Ōe Kenzaburō.

Women in the title role

The thesis deals with the analysis of the literary titles and literary female heroines, that entered into the title of a literary work. The theoretical part first discusses the concept of womanhood for two important philosophers - Gilles Lipovetsky in his work, The third wife[1] and Milan Machovec in the publication Philosophy in the face of the demise of[2] . The Centre of gravity of the theoretical basis regarding the literary theoretical categories - titles and literary characters, Josef Peterka textbooks represent the Theory of literature for teachers[3] , the rigorous work of Josef Lesak Poetics in contemporary Czech prose[4] and an extensive theoretical literary publication of Daniela Hodrová . ... on the edge of chaos[5] . The knowledge from the theoretical part is applied to the analytical part of the thesis, which discusses titles of the nine selected literary works and nine female heroines of Czech prose of the 2nd half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, who have been highlighted in the titles of these literary works. Typology of characters in novels to continue published in women's magazines

The aim of this work is the analysis of a typology of characters in the serial novel, which was published in women's magazines in the interwar period. For this thesis were used methodology of quantitative content analysis and qualitative analysis of selected five novels to continue. The work was focused on the period 1931 - 1939. Obtained data were found identical types and features the characters used in contemporary novels to continue. They were found the common aspects of serial novels that formed the primary source material of this thesis. The research was obtained the basic data for working with literary figures of romantic fiction. In this work was prepared model the main male and female character appearing in the novels to continue. In this work was constructed the model of serial novel. Part of the thesis has brought an analysis of novels and their characters have been converted into a movie. This work confirmed the importance of the continuation novels, as a key department of women's periodicals in the interwar period. The contribution of this work is to analyze the most frequently used characters in the novels to continue.
