How it is a consequence of that title, this extended essay deals with problems of people suffering from poliomyelitis (infantile paralysis). Thanks to the systematic vaccination, this disease has not been found in the Czech Republik since the 1960s. The people who had got over paralysis after acute poliomyelitis in a successful way were feeling sureness for years. The return of the illness, respectively its late consequences after a few decades of a normal life means a change-over from the state of full or - as the case may be {--} only mildly reduced abilities to the state of lifelong invalidity for them. Handicapped people have to get over great numbers of obstructions and limits which arise partly from the existence of hte certain handicap and which are given by the handicaps {--} limits the organization of the society put in their way in the course of ist development in parts. Over recent years, the Czech Rebublik has ranged with the countries which realize a greater responsibility for the elimination of barriers keeping the handicapped citizens away from a full - value participation in the life of the society. The aim of the essay was to obtain a comprehensive view of possibilities of keeping social needs of people suffering from poliomyelitis {--} infantile paralysis and to evaluate the barriers which have to be got over by that group. It was also a very important thing to find the quality of life and satisfaction with a realization of aims of life as far as people suffering from poliomyelitis and to compare it with the quality of life as regards the current population. Three following hypotheses were set in line with this aim. Hypothesis No 1: In spite of the current legislation concerning the elimination of architectonic barriers, the handicapped people are limited in the participation in the public life. Hypothesis No 2: Considering the dependence on the other person´ s aid, the people suffering from postpoliomyelitis syndrome appreciate financial guarantees ensuing from the social service law in a high degree. Hypothesis No 3: The quality of life of people suffering from poliomyelitis is reduced, in comparison with the quality of life as far as healthy people. Hypothese 1 and 2 were confirmed by my research, hypothesis No 3 was not verified. The detailed analysis of the given hypotheses is included in the part of discussion in the extended essay. JIRÁSKOVÁ, Eva
The goal of this paper is to show the basic survey of the compensation aid tools that are good and a sometimes necessary for a good development of the handicapped child, for his better social integration and for the well function of his family. I also wanted to present the possibilities of financial support from health insurance companies, social- and health department and last, but not least the support of nonprofit organizations. The survey shows that parents does not have enough information about gathering financial support for compensational instruments for physically handicapped children. We can also mention that the information receive mainly from their friends, parents of handicapped children and in Southern Bohemia even thanks to Chilren Centre called ``ARPIDA``, which provides the complex care especially to children with corporal and combined handicap. It also follows that parents would thank to any other chance about possibilities of financing compensational instruments by means of doctors, informational materials, etc.

The foster care of handicapped children
JEŽKOVÁ, Lucie
Substitute family care is a form of care for abandoned or orphaned children when a child is brought up by foster parents in an environment which is similar to a natural family environment. In the Czech Republic, there are various forms of substitute family care, mainly adoption and foster care. Arranging foster care means seeking children who are suitable for placement in foster care and finding correspondent foster parents for those children. There are few different groups of children acceptable for foster care. One of those groups includes children with handicap. Handicap means an obstacle, difficulty, disadvantage or unfavourable situation which ensues from a limited ability or even inability of an individual to assert as well as other people. The aim of this dissertation is to asses foster care situation abroad and to compare foster care for children with handicap in South Bohemia and Pilsner Regions. Based on the aim, two hypothesis were determined. The first one: Variability of different foster care forms in the Czech Republic is not optimal compared to abroad. The second one: Comparison results of data from both surveyed regions will not be fundamentally different. Secondary data analysis method was used for the survey. The data was acquied from available professional literature and foster family files from Foster Care Centre of South Bohemia County Council in České Budějovice and Pilsner County Council in Plzeň. Required data were gathered from foster parents' records and fostered children documentation from 2001 to 2005. The established aim was accomplished. The first hypothesis was confirmed. The second hypothesis was not confirmed. The survey established that some European countries have already introduced further forms or foster care, especially professional foster care. This form of foster care is not available in our country yet but as the interest to become foster parents decreases in the Czech Republic, professional foster care may be the solution of this situation. Furthermore, the survey established that there is hardly any difference among foster parents and fostered children in individual character in both counties. However, there is a distinctive difference in the amount of foster parents who accepted a child to foster care. The same situation arises in the amount of children placed in foster care. Contribution of this dissertation for the health and social section consists in a creation of statistics during the years 2001-2005 and in an estimate of characteristics of foster parents which can assist in searching for new foster parents.
