Práce se zabývá projevy a důsledky stárnutí a stáří. A to jak z pohledu seniora a jeho prožívání této životní etapy, tak i z pohledu rodiny a společnosti, která ho obklopuje. Dále upozorňuje na důležitost provázanosti zdravotní a sociální péče o občany se zdravotním postižením a vyzdvihuje význam sociální práce v péči o seniory. V další části vysvětluje pojem demence a zaměřuje se na Alzheimerovu demenci. Ukazuje základní problémy, které život člověka s demencí provázejí a podává informace, které mohou pomoci jeho rodině i všem, kteří mu pomáhají. V závěru práce hodnotím význam stacionární péče a zamýšlím se nad potřebností podpory neinstitucionální péče a tím vyzdvihuji význam pečující rodiny, lidskosti a pochopení, které jsou důležité pro kvalitní život uživatelů s demencí. Což je cílem mé práce. The thesis deals with the manifestation and results of aging and old age from the point of view of the elderly and their experience of this stage of life and also from the viewpoint of the family and society around them. Further attention is drawn to the importance of the connection of health and social care for citizens with health problems, and the significance of social work in caring for senior citizens is emphasised. Other parts deal with the notion of dementia, with particular focus on Alzheimer{\crq}s disease. Basic problems are outlined which are connected with a citizen dealing with dementia and information is given which can help the family and all those who are involved in helping the patient. In the conclusion I evaluate the significance of permanent care and I consider the needs of non-institutional care and emphasise the importance of a caring family, humanity and understanding, which are important for the quality of life of those with dementia. This is the aim of my thesis.
