Sexuality and social control of women in transcultural perspective

The subject of thesis "Sexuality and Social Control of Women in Transcultural Perspective" is theoretical analysis of social control of women sexuality, structure and instruments of this control. The aim is to answer the question, how and in which process and circumstances the social dominance of men in patriarchally orientated societies is evolved, continuously renewed and secured and by which means or instruments is this situation sustained in a long-term perspectives. The insight into matrilineally orientated societies is offered for comparison and adumbration of possible counterpart of different way of social structuring. This also reminds the reader to think in the instances of cultural relativism and for this purpose is used theoretical frame of cultural constructivism, concepts of gender, social roles, socialization and enculturation processes and symbolic structures of these cultures. This thesis contains comparative analysis of imperative of modesty and chastity, veiling, female genital mutilation, Chinese foot-binding, virginity, institution of harem and chastity belt. These instruments of social control of women sexuality are examined and researched from transcultural perspective and the geographical localization and cause description is outlined.

Vocabulary of Czech sci-fi short stories

The presented Bachelor thesis, Vocabulary of Czech sci-fi short stories, is focused on describing lexicological and morphological means used in a sample of words used in a Czech sci-fi magazine XB-1. The analysed words have been categorized by their terminological, neological, proper noun and slang nature. This served as the basis of structure of this thesis. In the semantic part, this thesis deals with real objects typical for the described literary genre (space travel devices, technical inventions, unusual science fields, etc.) and thus confronts the real and fictional worlds. The thesis summarizes the word-forming means where authors need to create new words for new objects and the thesis describes some of their common trends. Last but not least, this thesis assessed the function of these word-forming means in such a specific literary genre. Dendritic cells and their importance in immune response

Dendritic cell (DC) is the most effective antigen presenting cell in human organism. Dendritic cells plays important role in immunity response because they stimulate naive T-lymfocytes. This propeliy is very useful in immunotherapy of tumor diseases. The general aim of this work was to optimalize operating protocol for preparation vaccine containing dendritic cell s for patients with ovarian carcinoma. We examined single parts of process of preparation and their impact on result of whole process. We were interested in used plastic, from which are culture bottle made, and its impact to maturation of dendritic cells. Next thing that we examined was if we use the same kind of maturation reagent, type poly I:C, from different producers, will be dendritic cells maturated in the same way. After made vaccines are freezed to -80DC to keep their immunosupresive properties. We examined if DCs after defrosting have the same properties like before. Chiropterans in education of zoology at elementary and high schools

This graduation thesis processes the topic of Chiropterans and focuses on its use in education of biology at elementary and high schools. The thesis consists of two main parts. Theoretical part provides basic information about Chiropterans, their characteristic signs, habits and way of life. Special attention is focused on species of bats living in Czech Republic. The chapter deals with the factors threatening Chiropterans and problems of their protection in Czech Republic are addressed as well. Practical part of this work processes excursions to winter roosting sites of the bats and also proposes summer excursions to their hunting-grounds with the use of electronic device to monitor active bats. The same chapter deals with didactic and methodic too. PowerPoint presentation, suitable for introduction Chiropterans to pupils and students at schools, is also part of this work. Major reason for choosing this topic is lack of zoological excursions at elementary and high schools. It is because zoological excursions are considered to be complicated to organize and difficult to prepare. Therefore students don't have a possibility to observe animals in their nature sites. The dilemma of a social worker in connection with the proposed alternate care for minor

In the theoretical part, there I devote to the family itself, what are its functions, further I deal with a marriage and parenthood. In the next chapter I explain the divorce with minor children, causes of the divorce rate and the children´s reactions to the divorce. This is followed by a chapter on the social worker dealing with the children´s social and legal protection, his roles and competences, which dilemmas he encounters during his work. Last but not least I deal with the mutual and alternate care. What are prerequisites of the successful alternate care, its advantages and disadvantages. I chose a technique of a semi-structured interview for the qualitative research. There is a minimum of topics and questions that the interviewer must discuss. These basic topics and interviews then are attached by various other additional topics that the interviewer seemed to be meaningful or suitable to an extension of the original assignment. Data obtained through the interview I worked out using the coding. The research sample has been represented by the department of the children´s social and legal protection. This department belongs under the department of social affairs in municipalities with extended powers. Specifically, they were social workers of this department who I gained all the necessary information for the research from. The aim of this thesis was to describe the dilemmas of the social worker in the area of the social work in connection with the decision on the alternate care for the minor child. The research showed that there still prevails the number of children, who are placed by the court in the sole custody of mothers in the Czech Republic. It more often happens, that children´s fathers who were for the alternate care at the beginning, after a certain time revise their opinions and decide to leave the education of the children to their mothers. Regarding the dilemmas of the social workers dealing with the children´s social and legal protection, there are situations which occur more and more. These are especially situations when parents cannot agree on any rules on which the alternate care could run smoothly. In those above mentioned situations the child is placed in the sole custody to one of the parents. The everyday problem of the social workers is a large number of clients. The main reason for this is a growing number of divorces. To be able to cope with so many clients, all leads to the fact that the social workers are forced to reduce their time, energy, but also their attention which is to be paid to individual clients. Specifically in České Budějovice, the social workers from the department of the children´s social and legal protection lead only very few consultations with their clients directly in their office. It is especially due to the lack of their time, because they more often go to investigate a particular family on demand of the court. Many social workers meet the fact that the family wants to realize the alternate care, but for the reason of the non-cooperation of the both parents most of the alternate cares come to an end. As for the forms of the alternate care, most families realize a week alternate care. Mainly it is at the primary school-age children for the reason that the children are small and after a short time they miss the other parent. A 14-day alternate care is realized at the older children. They usually dislike their permanent moving from one parent to the other. A contribution of this thesis is to provide a topic for the social workers dealing with the children´s social and legal protection, to use it in their own practice in connection with the alternate care. Finally, the results can be used for an evaluation of the social workers´ approach to the families wishing to realize the alternate care.

The phenomenon of female homelessness from the perspective of a social worker

The topic of this thesis is The Phenomenon of Female Homelessness as Seen by Health and Social Workers. Although the terms a homeless person and homelessness are terminologically unclear and there is no clear definition of this concept, the phenomenon of homelessness is known in our society. But it is not about homeless people as such, the Social Services Act defines homeless people as people without any housing available. Despite the fact that there is more information on male homelessness, the issues of female homelessness are coming to the fore. Female homelessness is an issue that is very closely linked to the loss of housing. However, the issue is not only about a loss of housing but also about the issue of domestic violence, maintaining dignity and, finally, it is also about the interest of children and their safety. Homelessness of families, whether it is a single mother with children or a father with children as well as a complete family, also begins to appear. With the increasing number of women threatened in this way, an increasing number of organizations providing social services for homeless women is beginning to appear. These services are provided as outpatient services, field services and residential services. Homeless people, and therefore homeless women, are provided with social services in asylum homes, hostels, drop-in day centres, crisis centres, halfway houses engaged in the prevention of homelessness of girls who leave institutional care, and social activation services for families with children that are threatened by this phenomenon. However, it includes not only these services, but a major role is played by social counselling that is provided to women in professional counselling centres. The issue of social services is dealt with by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic, but also by regions, municipalities and, ultimately, non-profit organizations. Qualitative research was chosen for the practical part of the thesis using the interview method with a manual. Case reports were processed based on the interviews conducted. The research was conducted at an asylum home for women and mothers with children (Azylový dům pro ženy a matky s dětmi in Tábor) and a crisis centre for mother and child (Krizové centrum pro matku a dítě in Kostelec). Ten respondents participated in the interviews. In addition, interviews were conducted with workers of social services in the South Bohemia region. The workers in each of the facilities were selected according to their posts; they were mainly social workers or manager of the facilities. Six respondents out of seven interviewed respondents from the asylum home for women and mothers with children participated in the research. The remaining four respondents were from the crisis centre for mother and child. The respondents were selected using purposive selection. After contacting the managers or social workers from the social service facilities for homeless women in the South Bohemia region, I was provided with, in addition to three facilities, necessary information about the capacity of the facilities and whether the service is adequate or not. The objective was to map the number of organizations that provide social services to homeless women in the South Bohemia region and find out the most common reasons that lead to the emergence of female homelessness. To achieve the set objectives the following research questions were formulated: Is the amount of social services for homeless women in the South Bohemia region sufficient? What are the most common reasons that lead to the emergence of female homelessness?

Stadión magazine in years 1970-1993

Thesis Stadión magazine in years 1970 - 1993 deals with the sport's magazine Stadión in years 1970 - 1993. It maps political and cultural situation, structure of media market and state of sports at this time period. The thesis focuses on second half of existence of the magazine which had been issued since 1953. It analyses and describes structure of the magazine and changes and graphical aspects of every single section of the magazine. The thesis also deals with editorial team of the magazine and its' economical situation. The thesis as well introduces Olympia Publishing house, the publisher of the Stadión magazine. It describes its' position between other publishing houses. It finds out the relation between ČSTV and publishing house. It also deals with production of books and production of periodic press of the publishing house. In addition to that, this thesis finds out a quantity of political motivated articles and its' relevance to other content of the magazine. Thesis is also trying to find out an effect of the magazine to the readers. All of these findings are put in the context of normalization time period and the time period of the early nineties.

The first chapter of the diploma thesis describes Energy policy of the European Union, especially its development, present state and its goals. This chapter also contains information about development of the single energy market. The second part of the thesis analyses oil and natural gas import dependence of the whole European Union and its Member States as well. It shows its rate and also the structure of suppliers, moreover, it describes total production, consumption and reserves of these fosil fuels. The third chapter outlines the ways how to reduce the import dependence. The last part familiarises readers with the main initiatives of the European Union in the field of environmental protection.

The practical part then examines the present world market of mobile phones and thanks to performed questionnaire investigation also manner and intensity of usage of mobile phones among czech consumers.
