Dandysm Today

In my thesis for a bachelor degree I introduce the evolution of dandyism and I try to describe how this phenomenon is viewed by present-day (literary) theoretitians. This originally social phenomenon is embodied in the figure of Lord Byron, connected to romanticism and is broaden by literary and intellectual stances where Baudelaire contemplates concept of beauty and modernity, Oscar Wild represents the decadent aesthetic of the end of the century and where the Czech dandy is Arthur Breisky. In my thesis I also address contemporary expressions of dandyism - neoconservatism on one side and the esthetics of camp on the other side. Amongst the basic principles of dandyism belongs stylization - underlying function is surface, dandy stylizes himself into the image of an artifect, his individuality expressed through clothes (or more radically through his own body). For this reason I also pay attention to a fashion as a medium of (artistic) expression. Analysis of the Czech translation of Yuri Vynnychuk's collection of short stories Chachacha

This diploma thesis Analysis of the Czech translation of Yuri Vynnychuk's collection of short stories Chachacha is devoted to the analysis of translation solutions of selected linguistic features in two short stories - Chachacha and Kulparkiv, aneb Chachacha 2. The goal of this work is to assess translation methods of Rita Kindlerová, describe its possible positives and negatives. Introductory chapters deal with the biography of Yuri Vynnychuk, his classification in a literal context, general characteristics of his work and consequently the stylistic analysis of two excerpted texts. An integral part of the work is definition of theoretical base for translatological analysis. Main parts of the work are focused on the analysis of translation of specific linguistic features, which are the stylistic dominants of selected texts: stylization of speech, style differentiation, phraseme and selected culture- specific items with an emphasis on proper nouns.
Jan Mikulášek's Directions of Ibsen

The object of this bachelor thesis is a detailed analysis of two productions of Henrik Ibsen's plays - Hedda Gabler (National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, 2008) and The WildDuck (Petr Bezruč Theatre, 2009), which were staged by one of the most remarkable contemporary Czech theatre director, Jan Mikulášek. Based on her own spectatorial experience authoress tries to describe the work with the single theatrical components in the productions, expresses director's interpretation of the plays and emphasizes the typical features of Mikulášek's style. In conclusion she compares the productions and points out their diferences despite the similar poetics they were staged in.
The Eternal Boyhood of Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic

The thesis attempts to describe the life and work of Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic through an analysis of his lifestyle, i.e. the way in which he organized, embellished and individualized his life. Karásek sought to shape his existence as an artwork, in accordance with the inspirational concepts of the contemporary and antecedent thinkers and artists (e.g. Oscar Wilde, Walter Pater and Maurice Maeterlinck). He accented its integrity and orientation towards beauty. In accord with his aesthetic vision (and his literary work) Karásek conditioned beauty with sadness and pain and attempted to emphasize melancholic beauty, unity in disunion. For that purpose he would accentuate particularly the disintegrative, critical elements, evoking the impression of unsuccessful, self-destructive endeavor to reach life's high ideal. This corresponded with his tragic concept of the artist immolating himself for his Art. I approach Karásek's lifestyle through the use of the terms youth and (eternal) boyhood, which Karásek himself employed as symbols of mournfully beautiful existence in his literary work. Horrors an Terrors in the Czech Literature of 1920s and 1930s

This bachelor's thesis analyses a handling with a trivial literature in 1920s and 1930s. It includes a theoretical point of view as well as the explanation of basic terms associated with the trivial literature. A predominate analytical-interpretive part focuses on a variety of genres of the trivia literature at Czech writers Josef Váchal and Ladislav Klíma. The interpretive part comprises an exploitation and transformation of the trivia genres of bloody and gothic novels in the books "Krvavý román" and "Utrpení knížete Sternenhocha". Both of the authors come out in their work pieces of one of the paraliterature's genre, which is changed personally. It can be stated, that according to a completed analysis, there are two main features used for experimenting with these genres, such as irony and high level of stylization. Stylization procedures in texts by Ladislav Fuks

This thesis deals with the stylization procedures used in the belletristic and journalistic texts written by Ladislav Fuks. The aim of the thesis is to define and demonstrate the basic distinctive methods and procedures such as repetition, intertextuality, ambiguity and mystification, ambivalence and autostylization. This thesis follows the methods mentioned above in characteristic exposures and transformations and examines the diversity of functions these methods fulfil in several texts of different nature. Furthermore, this thesis occupies with the relationship between these methods and author`s artistic stylization as well as to what extent he can be cogitated. This thesis is directed to defining the uniqueness of Fuks`s writing method which offers a variety of reading approaches. It allows to look at Fuks`s writing from different angles and observe the intensity of author`s personal attitudes projecting into his texts. This thesis {\clqq}The last paladin`` of czech decadence Jarmil Krecar from Ruzokvet. Erotic, stylization and inspiration in his life and creation tries to present the personality of Jarmil Krecar and tries to place him in to the cultural {--} historical context of Czech history at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Than reflects the erotic themes in his literary works and his life attitude. And also concentrates how his life was pervaded by anachronism decadent stylizations, esthete and dandyism. The thesis is devided into five chapters. The first part of the introduction essay should outline the complex atmosphere of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century and should deal circumstances, rise and progress of the important periodical organ of Czech decadent artists, Moderni revue. The second part of the introduction essay tries to describe the phenomenon of decadent stylizations and place it in to the larger Europe connections. The subject of the third part of the first chapter is the reflection of erotic and sex in Czech culture at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The second chapter describes Jarmil´s life, emphasizes to the condition which Jarmil came from and the condition he was later living in. The third chapter analysis in literary way Krecar´s published and unpublished literary works with consideration to the substitution of erotic and pornography motives. The fourth chapter tries hard on the basis of the relation to Jarmil´s Muses and mistresses to understand his personality of a radical decadent artist. The fifth chapter want to present by using concrete example the selfpresentation of the decadent personage in his imaginary and his real world.
