Reality as Self, Thing and Their Relation

The meaning of this work is to grasp the development of early-modern philosophy into "modern" philosophy on the basis of the subject-object issue, which is considered and demonstrated as ontologically entirely fundamental. The expression of this development is illustrated for reason of deeper clarification of the sense and meaning of modern philosophy. The ontology of early-modern philosophy is essentially determined through the categories of subject and object, self and thing. The most universal nature of this ontology is based on object of reality fixation which is self, thing, or both. The notions of self and thing are in this work introduced in their totality through the extreme positions of two early-modern philosophers. The demonstration of the extreme philosophy of the subject is Berkeley. The demonstration of the extreme philosophy of the object is Spinoza. On the basis of explication of their ontology is explicated the universal nature of early-modern ontology. The end of early-modern ontology and its transition into "modern" ontology happens through the reconstruction of the subject-object figure. The author of this reconstruction is Hegel. Reality is now placed neither into the subject neither into the object, but into their mutual relation.

Kierkegaard's philosophy of existence

This work takes as its central issue the existential movement as it appears in the philosophy of Soren Kierkegaard. There appears to be relatively little secondary literature on this topic, so it is a very fruitful area to explore. The texts explored include Kierkegaard's 'psychological' books, in particular Concept of Anxiety and Sickness unto Death. These provide our work with the crucial concepts of innocence, guilt, despair, anxiety, existence and spirit. From the more traditional philosophical works, Philosophical Fragments, Concluding Unscientific Postscript to Philosophical Fragments and Johannes Climacus have been utilised. These texts inform the work mostly on the meaning of movement, doubt, contradiction and absolute paradox. From the more lyrical works, this work is informed by Fear and Trembling and Repetition. Inquiry into these texts combined will provide a picture of existential movement as it is presented by Kierkegaard. This work attempts to capture the 'becoming subjective' which is so central to Kierkegaard's thought, through the reconstruction of the existential stages. It is also the purpose of this work (in the process) to treat areas of Kierkegaard's thought that are usually left untreated. Identity in the age of Internet communication

This diploma thesis seeks to describe the basic concepts of sociological approaches to identity as well as related concepts from the sociological reflections on the Internet. First, the thesis introduces the fundamental ideas of identity theories, as they were formulated by the authors of symbolic interactionism in the first half of the 20th century. Subsequently, the key sociological concepts of individual and collective identities are described in more details and in this context there is also reminded the social construction of reality theory, that provides an explanation of the connection between the individual and collective levels of analysis. Finally, this thesis discusses concepts reflecting the relationship between individual identities and communication on the Internet, especially within so-called virtual communities, and also introduces concepts, which seeks to characterize the role of Internet in the processes of collective identities formation.

The diploma thesis New services and emotion management in postindustrial society concerns about the new kind of services, which started to occupy a very important position in the most intimate and personal spheres of human life (partner life, bringing up or even giving birth to children). With the development of these services the society finds itself on the border of "commodification", when more and more realms of human life is governed by market mechanisms and things, which used to belong to personal life, are becoming just goods for us. The borders between these two areas are more permeable and that reflects upon borrowing of rhetorics and discourses across these realms. With shifting of boarders our ways of thinking, feeling and acting change. Some kind of depersonalization arises and our relationship to our own personal life and to its meaning is becoming mediated by those services and those, who provide them. With these changes individuals deal through involvement of emotion labor. Relationship between "Ich" and "Der andere" in Améry's "Hand an sich legen"

(in English) This thesis deals with the relationship between The Self and The Other as presented in the works of Jean Améry, especially in his book about suicide. To think about the relationship between these two agents means also to think about freedom, humanity, the right to life, and the right to voluntary death. The first part of the thesis is concerned with the definitions of the relevant concepts; the second part reflects on the concept of voluntary death. It is precisely the voluntary death that can be the most radical result of the culmination of misunderstanding between The Self and The Other. For voluntary death is not only a decision not to live at this time and place but also a decision to leave this society, the others. According to Améry, the decision to commit suicide is a free, natural, and humane act. By saying that suicide is a free act Améry argues against the deterministic teachings of psychologists. Améry believes that voluntary death is a natural response to inhuman, humiliating, or for any other reason unacceptable life conditions. He thinks that voluntary death is also a humane act, as it gives men the opportunity to stop existing when there is a threat to their existence as human beings, for example when they get dehumanized like a muselman in a concentration camp. The thesis discusses the tools commonly used by developers in exploratory environments of languages Smalltalk and Self. These languages free their users from using plain unstructured source code. Moreover, they contain tools with richer features. The thesis consists of an analysis, a design proposal, and a description of Object Viewer, a Self based tool designed for languages C and C++. The tool graphically displays fragments of a program (objects and pointers) and allows for manipulating them during debugging. The conclusion consists of a summary and a recommendation for additional new features.

Women's experiences of domestic violence

The research aims to capture the view of women experience domestic violence, using narrative approach. The theoretical part deals with the issue of domestic violence, the personality characteristics of battered women and narrative approach. As inspiration for understanding the role of victims of violence is used deep interpretation of Bluebeard fairy tale. The practical part describes the research, which consists of interviews with three women who are currently clients of the intervention center.
