Idioms Including Names of Sense Organs in Russian, Czech and German in Comparison

This bachelor thesis focuses on Czech, Russian and German idioms. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with phraseology, the linguistic discipline itself. In the first chapter, the thesis concentrates on the relation between language and culture. Afterwards, the thesis provides a short historical overview of the development of phraseology and solves the place of this discipline among both other linguistic and nonlinguistic disciplines. Further the thesis deals with the subject of the research in phraseology, i.e. the idiom. It summarizes its characteristics, divisions and functions and outlines the issues of equivalence of idioms. In the practical part of the thesis, the idioms including their semantics and synonymous expressions are organised into tables. These idioms containing the names of sense organs, are then compared on their syntactic and lexical levels.

The thesis "Proverbs a Series of Tapestries by Jacob Jordaens from the Castle Hluboká nad Vltavou" deals with a series of tapestries created from an artwork by the Flemish painter and designer of tapestries Jacob Jordaens. The aim of the thesis is to include historical context, and importace in schwarzenberg's collection which are part of and primary to write up pieces in detail with an emphasis on original artwork and update outdated literature, represented by studies from Jarmila Blažková. Comparative Analysis of Czech, English and German Proverbs in Jirotka's Saturnin

This thesis analyses and compares the typical features and tendencies of Czech, English and German proverbs with specific reference to the book Saturnin by Zdeněk Jirotka. The theoretical part summarizes the complexity of proverb-definition. It also deals with the different ways of translating proverbs and, last but not least, the concrete specifics of proverbs in the particular languages are introduced. Within the practical part, the proverbs contained in the original version of the book Saturnin - and its English and German translations are analysed from different viewpoints (e.g. existence and non-existence of proverbs, motivation, semantic differences, poetic and grammatical features etc.). The aim of this thesis is to assess to what degree the proverbs of the individual languages studied differ and, conversely, what common tendencies their proverbs display. Horse in Czech Phraseology, Proverbs and Fairy Tales. Contribution to the Linguistic Picture of the World

The focus of this bachelor thesis is the image of the horse in the Czech phraseology, proverbs and fairytales of Karel Jaromír Erben. The material processing has been based on cognitive linguistics and linguistic worldview theory and their methodological tools. First, the theoretical-methodological scope is explained with the focus on cognitive approach to language and linguistic worldview. Using these methods, the language and culture image of the horse in Czech environmentis processed, as presented by dictionaries. The etymology and history of the expression are examined; the meanings are defined using monolingual dictionaries, followed by the list of the most common synonyms, hyponyms and co hyponyms (hřebec, kobyla/klisna, hříbě etc.) On the grounds of phraseology, idiomology and paremiology as well as figurative usage, neologisms, derivations and compositions, the stereotype of the horse in Czech linguistic worldview is described. This is followed by the image of the horse in Erben's České pohádky. At the end of the thesis an open definition of the expression horse is given.
Selected aspects of the Viet ethnic group paremiology

This thesis examines selected aspects of the Việt Ethnic group paremiology based on field research which was carried out from January to June 2012 in Ho Chi Minh City. First, the thesis focuses on facts about paremiology and the Việt Ethnic group's language in general. Then, field research based on a quantitative survey regarding usage and knowledge about proverbs in Vietnam is included. Thesis deals in detail with the basic contextual symbolic nature of proverbs. Finally, chronological examination of some proverbs and their approximate age is incorporated.
Phraseology as part of the vocabulary of primary school pupils

Bachelor thesis is focused on Czech Idiomatic expressions and their knowledge and understanding of pupils of second grade of elementary school. The work is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. Goal of theoretical part is to define the basic concepts of phraseology using specialist publications. The practical part is focused on describing the survey results and on comparing the knowledges of idioms for each class of elementary school.
Animal Symbols in Czech Phraseology in Comparison with Vietnamese Phraseology

The topic of this thesis is the comparison of symbols associated with occurrence of denomination of selected animal species in Czech and Vietnamese phraseology and idiomatics. In this respect it is an attempt to submit general characteristics of these symbols. The thesis consists of two main sections. The first section concentrates on parables, second one on proverbs. In both sections we characterized selected phraseological units from formal and semantic points of view and, if possible, we identified coincidences and similarities in both languages. Main Czech sources on which is this thesis based were two volumes of Slovník české frazeologie a idiomatiky (1. díl - Přirovnání a 4. díl - Výrazy větné) - Dictionary of Czech phraseology and idiomatic (1st part - Parables and 4th part - Sentential expressions), from Vietnamese point of view the main source was Từ điển Thành ngữ và tục ngữ Việt Nam - Dictionary of Vietnamese phraseology / idiomatics and proverbs.
Semantic characteristics of paremias with key word "water" (an attempt at comparative analysis within Russian and Czech)

The bachelor thesis describes semantic specifics of the Czech and Russian paremias which include "water" as a key word. The aim of the thesis is to discover similarities and differences among paremias which incorporate the "water" component formally. The main methods displayed in the following thesis are comparative and semantic analysis. In Part 1 the main group of paremias (proverbs and sayings) problematics is described, as well as their interaction with other types of fixed expressions (phrasemes, idioms, adages etc.). Part 2 contains two classifications one of which is based on semantic properties of the "water" component; the classification includes the most typical oppositions within which the component is realised in Czech and Russian. The second classification of paremias with key word "water" is founded on the theory of semantic fields (taxa).
Proverbs, adages and sayings in different historical periods

The aim of this thesis is to approach and to outline the development of proverbs, idioms, and sayings in our territory, since their appearance in the translation of the Bible up to the present day, when they have been updated and modified. In the theoretical part we try to define the terminology on the basis of literature we have perused. The thesis also mentions the most important collectors of Czech proverbs (M. Červenka, J. Blahoslav, J. Dobrovský, F. L. Čelakovský, V. Flajšhans) and their paremiological works. The practical part presents the practical use of paremies. We have been working here with collected language material of journalistic and artistic functional texts. The thesis is supplemented by the results of the questionnaire investigation focused on the knowledge/ignorance, the understanding, and the use of these phrases in the present. In the end of this thesis there are additional attachments to some chapters (including synoptic tables with results of the survey, a demonstration of homework with phraseologisms, and the graphic representation of phraseologisms).
Italian proverbs and their Czech equivalents

This bachelor thesis is focused on the topic Italian proverbs and their Czech equivalents. The thesis is divided in two parts. The first part is focused on the theory and it deals with definition of the term "idiomatic expression", the inner structure of idioms and with the definition of the term "proverb" and its characteristics. The second part of the thesis analyses selected sample of the italian proverbs. The main attention is paid on the possibility of translation of these proverbs. The aim of the thesis is to show how the proverbs can be translated into the Czech, when we find them in the text and to study how the level of equivalence changes.
