Turková, Kateřina ; Czumalo, Vladimír (advisor) ; Šmied, Miroslav (referee)
There occurred a change in the Czech architecture from late historicism to modernism in the time from 1890's to the early 20th century. This thesis tries to demonstrate this change on the architecture of the pavilions during the Prague's great exhibitions that held in the years 1891-1908 at the Prague Exhibition Grounds at Holešovice. Individual attention will be focused on the Prague Jubilee Exhibition of 1891, the Czechoslavic Ethnographic Exhibition of 1895, Exhibition of Architects and Engineers of 1898 and Jubilee exhibition of the Trade and Business Chamber of 1908. After putting these exhibitions into the broader context and with the emphasis on significant buildings that should not be neglected as a part of the evolution of Czech architecture, this thesis tries to answer the introductory question whether the Prague Great Exhibitions played an essential role in the birth of Czech modern architecture.

Boundaries of the labyrinth. Literary Space in the Italian Postmodern Novels
Čaplyginová, Olga ; Flemrová, Alice (advisor) ; Pelán, Jiří (referee) ; Pechar, Jiří (referee)
The Phd thesis titled Boundaries of the labyrinth and subtitled Literary space in the Italian postmodern novels strives for specification and closer definition of the genre of post-modern novel through the analysis of literary space. Formally, the thesis is divided into three parts. The first part aims to provide a theoretical introduction into the problems of three areas related to the given topic, namely the definition of postmodernity and postmodernism, the genre of the novel itself and last but not least the study of space in literature. The content of the second part is the actual literary and scientific analysis of the selected novels (Città invisibili and Se una notte d'inverno un viaggiatore by Italo Calvino, Notturno indiano by Antonio Tabucchi, Comici spaventati guerrieri by Stefano Benni and Oceano mare and City by Alessandro Baricco) which follows three basic and most frequent spacial topoi occurring in these novels, namely the topos of the city, the house-hotel and the road. The third and final section sums up the observed aspects and characteristics and strives to use them as a basis for determining a certain and generalizing spacial and temporal principle which would facilitate at least a partial characterization of the postmodern novel as an independent genre.
Poetry on the Road
Likina, Nina Justina ; Jamek, Václav (advisor) ; Pohorský, Aleš (referee)
The present study seeks to describe the significance of the road, the walking, the escape in Arthur Rimbaud's poetry through the analysis of his poems and the synthesis of the works of his biographers. The study shows the mentioned themes both as motifs present in all the works of Arthur Rimbaud and as a real, radical desire that led his life. Starting with the first influences and impressions that formed Rimbaud's imagination, through his further flights and wanderings up to the definitive escape to Africa and the refusal of the poetry this work creates a compact line, discovers whether the visions and dreams of the poet were fulfilled and whether his poetry relates to his life journey. The study also focuses on the subject of the unity of life and art through the analysis of different approaches of literary scientists.
Resurrection of Jessus of Nazareth as a Question of Hermeneutics
Mašatová, Nina ; Lukeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Pospíšil, Ctirad Václav (referee)
The thesis deals with the message of the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, which is crucial for Christianity and its relevant hermeneutical approach. In the first chapter we analyze the contemporary hermeneutical context of the message within the Hellenistic and Hebrew cultures. In the second chapter we present an analysis of pre-Pauline faith confessions, Paul's texts and synoptic Gospels focused on targeted formulating of the message for respective communities and their cultural background. The last chapter wants to present some contemporary relevant hermeneutical approaches to this message. One of them could be the so called mythmaking, which emphasizes the necessity of permanent updating of accepted opinions, messages and realities. We can observe the mythmaking process already with the New Testament authors and each and also our generation is expected to bring the message about the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth to future generations in a relevant way. Luis Cernuda - The Melancholic Poet Tossed beetwen the Reality and the Desire.
