Ethnographic Research on Pixadores: Why Brazilian Taggers Transform the Urban Landscape?
Válková, Eva ; Grygar, Jakub (advisor) ; Kandert, Josef (referee)
This work examines the intervention of Brazilian street artists into the public space of São Paulo metropolis. Pixadores, as they are called, are young people brought up in the poor suburbs of São Paulo. The society perceives them as "vandals" and "delinquents". However, spraying for them is an important part of their life and they do not stop spraying even after starting a family. They risk their lives and often find themselves on the brink of life and death. The aim of this work is to understand the behavior of these sprayers by using the ethnographic method and to answer the question, why is this transgressive practice important to them. Through their writings, they are highlighting their presence and are becoming a direct part of the city. On the one hand, their doing is a syndrome of social problems in the context of Brazilian society. On the other hand, these forms of conscious property damage may be associated with the idea of protest, the affirmation of their position in the margins of society or the respect earned from their peers. Although the residents of the poor suburbs are seen as being excluded from all forms of capital, Brazilian sprayers are, however, important political actors and their doing is reshaping the urban landscape. Prestige and respect which sprayers receive from each...

Barešová, Kateřina ; Sládek, Jan (advisor) ; Duffková, Jana (referee)
The bachelor thesis is dedicated to the influence of city environment on the social life of its inhabitants with regards to the design of space. I am pointing to the influence of type of development of the city space and appearance of public ground on forming neighbor relationships among inhabitants. In the thesis, I am focusing on public space in unique city locality of housing development Solidarita. This housing project, which has been designed as a space, which shall support community relationships, does not work according to the ideas of its designers. One of the last public areas in the housing development Solidarita is the Park Na Solidarite, which does not comply with its function. I am suggesting possible reasons why it is so and I inquire into how local inhabitants perceive the space. KEY WORDS Sociology of architecture, social relations, urban space, public space

Čánský, Pavel ; Odvárka, Antonín (referee) ; Marek, Jiří (advisor)
The aim of the thesis is to design a train and a bus terminal attached to the city centre by a new pedestrian area, which is separated from the industrial area by a housing development. Since the current access to the property is very poor, another aim of this project is to design a new access road. There are a number of aspects taken into account, i.e. the scale of the city and its surroundings, a current housing development such as Tesco store and a Christmas decoration factory. What is also considered is the dimensions of the nearby buildings, which determine the dimensions of the design project. The project promotes the emergence of an urban area with new facilities such as a concert hall, post office, police station, parks, stores, indoor swimming pool and gallery.

Livovská, Lucia ; Odvárka, Antonín (referee) ; Marek, Jiří (advisor)
The goal of the thesis was to create a transfer terminal for bus and train traffic which would reroute the entire local and intercity transportation into one spot closer to the city center. The plan is divided into three zones with each fulfilling its role by its location. A transfer bus and train terminal is conceptualized in the center of the of the building plot as the most prominent point. Administrative buildings are located to the south of the terminal so as to separate the building plot from the factory located underneath. Civic amenities are located north of the terminal which are used by the travelers and citizens from the area further north from the building plot. A small city park is located near this zone with respect to the large amount of greenery on the entire building plot.

The addressed region is divided into four territorial units. Every unit has a purpose given by its placement. In the first - the main transport area, train and bus transportation coming to the parcel meets and cumulates along the railway. There is a two-storey steel construction serving as a wrapper for terminal cells and as a skeleton for vertical park. Individual terminal cells are functionally divided into own building for bus and train terminal, and three other cells with complementary functions directly related to traveling. These four cells are playfully played in a linear construction and overgrown with greenery.
To Dvur Kralove by train - Transfer Terminal in Dvur Kralove nad Labem
Vlček, Marek ; Odvárka, Antonín (referee) ; Marek, Jiří (advisor)
The thesis is built upon an urbanistic proposal of the terminal, nearby objects and spaces and overall structure rehabilitation of the surroundings. The proposed building plot is divided into two zones, the first features the terminal itself with objects and environs related to traveling—restaurant, coffee shop, bicycle storage, cultural open-space and a bus and train platform. These objects are housed under a dominant C-shaped roof. The center of the first zone is a park with a spacious square, used by pedestrians and cyclists, connecting the objects and the environs. The second zone features civic amenities. All objects on the building plot are coherent with the buildings in the area in their placement, orientation, character and visuals.

Haltof, Vladimír ; Zdařil, Zdeněk (referee) ; Karásek, David (referee) ; Kopáčik, Gabriel (referee) ; Zvonek, Miroslav (advisor)
Dissertation thesis deals with the design of street furniture sitting element (bench) merging two views of related disciplines - industrial design and architecture. Creative output solves the problems of the street furniture in urban space. They were initially targeted as a realizable design with production ambitions. The thesis contains several validation steps to confirm the feasibility of the designed solutions. Design of innovative sitting element based on an unconventional form and integration of a supplemental bicycle stand function is the first result. Designed element solves the problem of unwanted street furniture usage in urban space. The author named as "antiergonomic principles" restrictive set of the principles of unwanted usage, which is a specific problem of street furniture used anonymously in the public space. Universally applicable street furniture anchoring element is the second result. It completes a complex approach to the topic. The designed solution, prefabricated element, eliminates the disadvantages of the commonly used methods of anchoring to the pavement or monolithic concrete bases. Prefabricated element is designed as a part of the gravel placed under the pavement.
