Pšenicová, Radka ; Vaňková, Milena (advisor) ; Hocková, Jana (referee)
The specialty of Intensive Care deals with acute conditions from all medical branches within the entire age spectrum of adults. This field has its own distinctive characteristics, which determine the character of not only medical personnel communication with families of hospitalized patients, but the overall quality of nurses' cooperation with relatives. In Czech professional literature in the area of intensive care there is minimum publications on this issue up to date. The task of the current thesis is to map a view of paramedical staff (nurses) on the process of communication and cooperation with family members of patients hospitalized in the intensive care units. The empirical part of the research is processed as a qualitative research by the method of semistructured interviews with nurses from the Intensive Care workplaces. As the result of this work we found inadequate professional readiness of nurses in the fields of communication strategy and approach to the families of patients hospitalized in the intensive care environment. The weak point in this area from the nurse's position is also minimum of information sources that would allow families of hospitalized patients to understand the environment of intensive care and resuscitation better. The output of the work is the creation of an...

Prevention and importance of ventilator associated pneumonia in the intensive care
Sekerka, Pavel ; Kolář, Martin (advisor)
Synopsis Ventilation-associated pneumonia (VAP) presents a severe complication in the care for the mechanically-ventilated patient and its importance rises with the increasing number of resistant microorganisms, which causes VAP. VAP increases morbidity and mortality of the patients, prolongs their hospitalization and leads to the increase of direct and indirect treatment expenses. Options of treatment are sometimes difficult, costly and inefficient, thereby the need to prevent the occurance of VAP by employing a set of preventive measures is needed. Employing and enforcing those measures can decrease the incidence of VAP and thus to improve prognosis of the critically-ill patients in the intesive care. The goal of the experimental part of this thesis was to audit the employment of these preventive measures in practice. A survey using questionnaires and observing the situation on KAR FNKV have shown, that some measures are performed correctly, while some present a space for improvement, some are performed incorrectly or not at all.
Problem of sepsis in the intensive care unit
Škrabánková, Hana ; Marková, Eva (advisor) ; Jankovcová, Kateřina (referee)
The aim of the thesis was to determine the microbial colonization at the injection site of central venous catheter and its possible influence to maintain the lowest incidence of catheter sepsis. The culture results of skin swabs and taken blood cultures from two groups of patients were compared with each other using qualitative analysis methods. Those were Intensive Care Unit patients with established central venous catheter. The result was the discovery of microbial colonization of the skin and the representation of different pathogenic strains at the site of a central venous catheter for both established groups. Further showed that the higher the risk of microbial colonization with symptoms of catheter sepsis was seen where patients have central venous catheter established for longer period of time and have been treated under home parental nutrition program with stoma. The recommendation is the continuous education of health professionals to act in accordance with the latest preventive treatment recommendations, and the emphasis is mainly placed on hands cleaning and disinfecting as the hands of health professionals are one of the most common and risky way of transmission of pathogenic strains with potential nosocomial infection formation. Aseptic principles must be repeatedly communicated to all...

Svitáková, Jana ; Hošťálková, Monika (advisor) ; Mrákava, Vlastimil (referee)
General nurses in their proffesion provide nursing care to patients of different age groups. Quite frequently represented group are seniors. This fact is due to the increase in life expectancy, medical advances and polymorbidity of seniors, which is often the cause of their hospitalization. Nursing care for seniors is particularly challenging due to the occurence of many geriatric symptoms, restriction of cognitive functions and inabillity to self care. Much more difficult situation occurs, if the state of geriatric patient requires care in ARO (Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation) or ICU (Intensive Care Unit). Identification of problem areas in intensive nursing care for seniors leads to infer the possible measures for practice. In terms of this thesis quantitative research was carried out using a questionnaire survey. Research group consisted of general nurses from departments of intensive care, thus professional intesive care units (ICU) and department of anesthesiology and resuscitation. Out of the total number of 120 distributed questionnaires (100 %) returned 94 usable questionnaires (78,33 %). Realization of research survey was conducted in February 2012. The thesis consists of two parts, the practical and theoretical. The main objective was to map the problem of providing nursing...
