Staňková, Lenka ; Pichanič, Mikuláš (advisor) ; Marek, Petr (referee)
This master thesis focuses on the process of globalization and its consequences that allowed for the formation of multinational corporations. The current environment is characterized by the fast pace of changes that requires firms react flexibly, which demands new approaches to managing employees, creating more flexible organizational structures supporting creative people, and innovation because people and innovations are the key sources of competitive advantages. The goal of this thesis is to analyze changes at O2 after Spanish telecommunications firm Telefónica S.A. sold a majority stake to PPF in 2013. The changes associated with the switch in ownership can chiefly be seen in the firm's goals, its organizational structure, its policy toward employees, in customer satisfaction, and in its investments and share price.
Dopady telekomunikační regulace na transformaci k digitální ekonomice v České republice
Čupová, Martina ; Andera, Michal (advisor) ; Novák, Svatoslav (referee)
This thesis analyzes the implications of regulation on the transformation to a Digital Economy. A gap analysis shows that Czech Republic is significantly lagging behind in terms of connectivity, which is an essential precondition for a transformation to a digital age. The regulator promotes the entry of the new player as a solution for this situation. However, a simulation based on Herfindahl Hirschman Index does not support this view. This outcome is further supported by the results of correlation between market competitiveness and network advancement, which does not suggest any relationship. These findings are in line with empirical evidence from EU markets, which prove that a three-operator market is efficient and delivers attractive competitive services to the customers and society. The root cause of this situation lies in the current telecommunications regulation, which failed to create a sustainable digital ecosystem for the transition to a digital economy. This paper concludes, that regulatory framework needs to be redefined to address new challenges ahead. The regulatory priority should be shifted from service focus to encouraging long-term connectivity investments, differentiation, and competition.
Telecommunications regulation
Selby, Alice ; Pomahač, Richard (advisor) ; Pítrová, Lenka (referee) ; Bejček, Josef (referee)
The content of my work has been chosen on the basis that I have spent most of my career working as a regulatory lawyer in telecommunications. I started my career as a lawyer at the Czech Telecommunications Office and after few years I moved to the Ministry of Transport, which was then also responsible for telecommunications, and its strategy and legislation. Finally I joined Radiomobil (now T-Mobile Czech Republic) where I have spent 15 years to date. The development of technologies in the last 20 years is without a doubt fascinating. It is exciting to observe the sector regulation trying to catch up with the fast moving technological developments, and often aiming at attempting to regulate what cannot be regulated. At the same time we can witness the overregulated European telecommunications market gasping for air in comparison with other regions as it becomes less and less attractive to investments and investors, which is evidenced by the major European companies leaving the European markets and moving their activities into the less regulated regions of the world. A direct consequence of that is the consolidation of the European telecommunications markets. At the same time there are very high expectations on the part of both regulatory bodies and customers in the field of broadband development...

This pace is something that we need to adjust to, and the EU competition law represents no exception. This thesis concerns development of european competition law in the area of information technologies enabling communication between users. The scope of these technologies is narrowed to telecommunications and so called OTT applications, as both demostrate best the differences caused by dynamic development. In the area of telecommunications the analysis starts with a brief introduction of historical development triggered by process of liberalisation, and continues with the analysis of the decision making of both the Commission and the CJEU. All the areas of competition law are included - articles 101 and 102 of the TFEU, control of concentrations and to certain extent also state aid. Attention is dedicated also to consequences of roaming and of its cancellation, which is about to happen in the upcoming years. A lot of focus is aimed on the Commission's decisionmaking in merger control, where we can assume a development of a certain blueprint. In the area of the OTT applications, we introduce their concept, and a lion...
