Spiritual Significance of the Orthodox Christian Church Chant

This work contains a narrative about a liturgical chant, its history and various genres and styles. A lot of attention is paid to explaining the theory and practice of various ancient chants. All this helps to understand better the meaning of the phrase "spiritual influence". The second part of the work deals with the practice of the choir directors' (regents') work, the choice of the repertoire and the relationship between the choir director, the choir and the priest. It is about the influence of various musical styles, the tempo and power of the sound of the performed works on the spiritual state of a person. Speaking about the liturgical basis of choir singing in the Orthodox Church, I reveal the concepts of theory and practice. I recall the early Christian practice of psalm chant, traditional singing in an Orthodox church and also modern liturgical singing. The Church Charter is of great importance for understanding the choir singing. The essence of church chant is to convey the meaning of the prayers performed by musical means as fully as possible and transmit them to all those participating in the service, as the choir is the mouth of the worshipers. Life and Work Fanny Neuda

The thesis entitled Life and Work of Fanny Neuda deals with a significant and almost forgotten writer from Lostice who lived between 1819-1894. It was Loštice that was the place of her writing, which is why the first chapter is devoted to them. This Jewish community was quite specific in its history, as discussed in the chapter. The second chapter deals with Fanny Neuda itself, her life and her "pioneering" writing activity. Since Fanny Neuda, née Schmiedl, was the world's first woman of Jewish descent, she did not write only prayers for women, but wrote a book for general opportunities / stimuli named Stunden der Andacht. Ein Gebet- und Erbauungsbuch für Israels Frauen und Jungfrauen, zur öffentlichen und häuslichen Andacht, sowie für alle Verhältnisse des weiblichen Lebens (Praha / Břeclav, 1855). She confidently compares her prayers with those written by men for women, for she is denied empathy with women's perception. But a woman can read in the hearts of her sisters.1 It is worthwhile to bring the character of Fanny Neuda and her work closer together, as well as the challenges she faced in writing in German. Contemplative Child

1 Annotation This thesis addresses the vocation of a Trappist monk which I first encountered during an ethnographic stay in a monastery and later explored further through semi- structured interviews with the monk and his family. The entire thesis is inter-connected by a chronological narrative covering the course of my research which will guide the reader throughout the field notes and interviews in their proper order. Research alone follows the vocation of only one monk but examines it and its formation from the perspective of six family members. The analysis of the interviews made clear that the vocation of a Trappist monk formed linearly with continuous Christian guidance. This guidance had origins in his religious family and was further consolidated by Christian elementary and high school structures. His family was very supportive of his decision to lean into religious life, and while a tendency to asceticism or solitude was refuted in the interviews, it transpired that a strong positive relationship with nature was observable, in-keeping with secluded monastery life in an isolated woodland environment. The work deals with the problem of the pain and suffering of a young person that prevents him from developing his desire to live. The work is focused on the young person and it is based on the psychological introduction to the issue. It notices accompanying facts of suffer as fear and anxiety, but also its counterparts in the form of hope and joy. The work also seeks to search for the meaning of these negative facts and presents several knowledge from logo therapy. It further develops Christian perspectives that relate to the problem of the pain and suffering of a young person, especially on the basis of the Bible, the apostolic letter Salvifici Doloris. It offers a view of faith, hope and joy, but does not negate the possibility of doubt and dark nights. It further describes the value of prayer and seeks to find ways for the young man to accept his life also with suffering. It shows the Church as a community of love, especially according to the example of the merciful Samaritan. It points to the importance of communication - dialogue with a young person and authenticity of human acceptance that is a very important function of the relationship when the young person feels his value and importance. It also develops the qualitative function of the relationship based on providing help beyond the profession, thanks to which fact a young person can once again discover his desire to live despite the limiting factors in the form of pain and suffering. In the end, there are described several case studies in the work focused on the importance of personal relationships that can bring the necessary changes for young man and to discover the value of human life.

Prayer: The Role, Place and Significance of Prayer in the Lives of Members of the Christian Community

The thesis, "Prayer: The Role, Place and Significance of Prayer in the Lives of Members of the Christian Community" deals with the topics outlined in its title. It is examined from the standpoint which understands prayer in its Biblical context, as well as how it has been interpreted by the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren tradition. The core of the thesis is made up of qualitative research. The goal of the research is to discover how prayer is perceived by believers within a particular Christian community: what place prayer occupies in their lives, what shapes it, what it contributes to them and, at the same time, how they perceive prayer and what kind of meaning corporate prayer has for them. Five deep, semi-structured conversations with research participants helped to achieve the goal of the thesis. The results of the qualitative analyses are presented in several chapters, of which four main chapters contain (1) the benefits of prayer in understanding oneself, and (2) in understanding and perceiving God, (3) prayer as a tool for service, and (4) benefits and deficits connected with prayer. Ethical aspects in the Book of Tobit

The thesis is focused on the analysis of selected ethical aspects in the book of Tobit. In the first part of the thesis explains the concept of ethics. In its second part individual ethical aspects of the book are explained. The third part tries to answer, what selected church documents and theological texts focused on ethics say about particular aspects analysed in the second part. At the end, particular events of the book of Tobit as ethical example for our lives and impact of Old Testament texts on present ethics are propounded to consider.

Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane: Jesus Prayer to Father in the Context of the Passion Story The presented thesis concerns with the issue of Jesus prayer in Gethsemane garden and its meaning in the passion story. It compares the accents of the evangelists and explicates the pericope with focus on the ultimate meaning of the event. The thesis has the form of exegesis, follows the publications of the important Czech and foreign authors, who are concerned with the issue more deeply, and tries to look for the interfaces and the distinctions in their theological views. The thesis shows and develops the important issues, which appears in the story. It is primarily the relationship between Jesus and his disciples, who fail, when they should offer the assistance to his Master and, also the issue of anxiety and fear, what Jesus passes through, alone. No less important motive is also the relation between the soul and the body. The thesis emphasizes the double meaning of the event - the historical and the eschatological ones; in that frame then discusses the issue of the hour, the cup and the temptation. Sanctification according to John 17: 13-19 The diploma thesis deals with an exegesis of John 17:13-19 with emphasis on an interpretation of the verses 17 and 19 and within them especially on the meaning of the term sanctification. The first chapter presents a brief introduction to the Gospel of St. John, the second one shows the chosen pericope in a contextual view and subsequently brings its literary-grammatical analysis. The third chapter focuses on an analysis of the selected biblical-theological terms which are fundamental for understanding of the pericope. The last chapter brings the exegesis itself with the aid of selected commentaries. The aim of the thesis is to interpret the presented pericope and to get to its deeper sense especially in connection with the term sanctification. The method used in this thesis is an analysis of the original text and a comparison of selected commentaries.

Diplomová práce "Duchovní vedení v životě sv. Terezie z Avily" má za cíl poukázat na místo duchovního vedení v životě této světice a její vztah k duchovním vůdcům. Nejdříve se stručně zabýváme poznatky o jejím životě a dobou, do které své charisma přinesla. Dále se věnuje duchovnímu vedení obecně a různým dilematům, na které v této době můžeme narazit. Největší část se však zaobírá duchovním vedením v životě světice. Tato mystička na své duchovní cestě považovala duchovní vedení za velmi důležitou a nezbytnou složku života a i její texty obsahují celou řadu pastoračních doporučení, jak má toto vedení probíhat.
