Depiction of floods in the czech press

The thesis focuses on how floods were covered in Czech newspapers. The approach taken by two periodicals, Mladá Fronta (MF DNES) and Rudé Právo (Právo), was compared on five examples of actual floods that took place in the Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia between 1954 - 2002. Examined was how the manner in informing about natural disasters differs between the period prior to 1989 and after, and how developments in technology contributed to the visual aspects of reporting on these events.
Media analysis of Czechoslovakian Desintegration

This thesis addresses the topic of the breakup of Czechoslovakia into two independent Czech and Slovak republics at the beginning of the year 1993. With the help of secondary literature, the first section is dedicated to chronologically interpreting the history of the relationship between Czechs and Slovaks. The section also discusses the accounts of leading Czech, Slovak and other international historians relating to the end of Czechoslovakia. In the second section, the author of this thesis firstly focuses on the analysis of selected printed media, including the Czech newspapers 'Rudé právo' and 'Mladá fronta/Mladá fronta DNES', and Slovakian 'Pravda' from the months around the time of the so-called Hyphen War at the beginning of 1990. The final chapters focus on the analysis of the above-mentioned newspapers from the time of the elections to the Federal Assembly in 1992 and examine reference methods relating to the issue of the Czech- Slovak misunderstanding.
Comparison of media interest in czechoslovakia/czech athletes at the summer olympic games in Ciudad de México in 1968 and London in 2012

The main goal of this bachelor thesis, "Comparison of media interest in Czechoslovakia/Czech athletes at summer Olympic Games in Ciudad de Mexico in 1968 and London in 2012", is to compare the media interest in Czechoslovakia and Czech athletes in Československý sport, Sport, Mladá fronta, Mladá fronta Dnes, Rudé právo a Právo newspapers, during two summer Olympic Games concretely the one in Ciudad de México (1968) and in London (2012). The quantitative content analysis was used to find out how much of the space was given to our athletes in each kind of newspapers. I made the comparison of those two years and also the comparison of every each newspapers. Results of the analysis shows the differences and progress in the sports journalism.
Analysis of the photographs of czech presidential candidates in the media

This thesis examines by using content analysis the selection of photos in some Czech newspaper (Mladá fronta DNES, Hospodářské noviny, Blesk, Právo) before the first direct presidential election in 2013. First direct presidential election in the country's history is a topic that has not been treated in a similar method, therefore this work is in its focus. Research questions in the empirical part are focused on photograph size, the frequency of posting the photographs, positioning photographs on the front page, the connection to political orientation and the connection to polls. Content analysis has more than one thousand rows of data. The output is several variables, such as photograph size, page number, connection to candidate's profession, theme of the picture or photo environment. The focus is placed on the high amount of input data, and this ensures a sufficient sample to study, which in effect increases the relevance of the work. Finally, the theoretical basis for the work is based on the concept of agenda-setting and the importance of photographs in the media.

The main topic of this bachelor's thesis named Media Image of Prague's Private Art Galleries in Mladá fronta or Mladá fronta Dnes in 1990-1992 is the depiction of Prague's fine arts'scene in this selected national daily during the period of so called spontaneous media privatization. The thesis aims to find out - by means of a combination of quantitative and qualitative approach to content analysis - whether the readers had the use of enough information about Prague's (particularly private) art galleries. The thesis consists of a theoretic and an analytic part. The first one is an overview of the historical context of media and culture during the socialist period in Czechoslovakia (1948-1989) followed by the description of media transformation after the velvet revolution and the fall of the totalitarian regime in 1989. Described events were chosen so that they are related to the development of printed media and cultural changes mainly in the field of fine arts at that time. The analytic part is itself the analysis of the daily Mladá fronta or Mladá fronta Dnes, which was privatized right after 1989. The media image of Chile during the years 1970-1973 in the czechoslovakian daily newspaper

The aim of this thesis is to describe the media image of Chile during the years 1970 - 1973 in the Czechoslovakian media. In 1970, the first Marxist oriented president in the western hemisphere, doctor Salvador Allende, was elected by people in Chile. Along with his government, put together out of the members of the Unidad Popular coalition, he made the first steps towards the creation of socialism in Chile. These efforts claimed the attention of the media in the Eastern Bloc, including the Czechoslovakia. The bachelor's thesis examines the media image of Chile in three Czechoslovak daily newspaper, that is Rudé právo, Mladá fronta and Lidová demokracie. The chosen research method is qualitative content analysis. The examined time periods were following events: the victory of Salvador Allende in the presidential election, the nationalization of the Chilean copper industry and the military coup of General Augusto Pinochet. The thesis builds upon an extensive theoretical part describing the historical and international political background of the events as well. A lot of attention is also dedicated to Chilean- Czechoslovakian relationships, which were based mainly upon Chilean-Soviet relationships.
Prostest and terroristic actions of the IRA in 1981 by the view of the czechoslovak press

The bachelor thesis Hunger strike of the Nortern Irish prisoners in 1981 by the view of the Czechoslovak press deals with the qualitative content analysis of the informations about hunger strike of the Norther Irish prisoners that appeard on the pages of selected Czechsoslovak newspapers. The period under ecxamination is from 1st March until 3rd October 1981. Hunger strike itself took place in prison in Northern Ireland that was called Long Kesh. Selected newspapers are Rudé právo, Mladá fronta and Lidová demokracie. Theoretical part of the work describes the history of the conflict in Northern Ireland. Methodological part presents research method, which is qualitative content analaysis and with it associated research questions and hypotheses. Each newspapers are introduced and analyzed separately and compared with each other at the end of the work. The main goal of the work is to find out, how selected newspapers informed about the events in Northern Ireland, how much space was given to these events and how much this newspapers presented their own opinion about the conflict.
Media view of events of november 1939 in chosen years

The presented bachelor thesis deals with media view of events of November 1939 created by Rudé právo, Lidová demokracie and Mladá fronta in chosen years, starting 1945, then 1949 and then after every five years until 1968 and 1969. The theoretical part provides an insight into the historical background of these events based on the academic literature. The practical part contains the analysis of particular articles and it is divided into seven chapters according to examined year. Each chapter includes brief information about the status of media in society in a selected year, a description of the media image of these events produced by the newspapers mentioned above and its subsequent analysis at the end of each chapter. The aim of this thesis is finding how Czech newspapers presented the events of Novemeber 1939 depending on their orientation and the social and political context by using comparative historical analysis.
May 1945in optics of journal Mlada fronta in time-spiral of 65 years

The thesis "Looking through the lens of the Czech daily newspaper Mlada fronta for 65 years" examines the topic of the liberation of Czechoslovakia in May, 1945. The qualitative content analysis of selected texts available from the newspaper is used to explore the interpretation of the event in Mlada fronta. The thesis has concentrated on the development of attitudes, beliefs, ways of communications and journalistic transformation of media content concerning the liberation event over time. The main objective has been to answer the question as to whether the media portrayal of the event has remained constant or altered over the stated time period and which factors influenced the portrayal. In the conclusion of this thesis we can confirm that the monitored event has been described differently in different time periods respectively, in connection with political progress and the value of democracy in the country. The more totalitarian the regime, the more the newspaper has described freedom through preferred ideology, biased themes, dogmatic posture and offered interpretations that suited the ruling party. Establishment of the United Nations Organization and its Reflection in the Period Newspapers

The paper will concern the formation of the United Nations Organization in 1945 and its reflection in the period newspapers. Firstly it will provide facts about the preceding organizations of UNO, it will describe the proces of drafting the new organization and its establishing conference in San Francisko 25. 4. - 26. 6. 1945. It will discuss the position of the Czechoslovak Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Masaryk at the conference, because he acted as a very pro-Western politician before and during World War II, but at the conference he stood for the interestes of the Soviet Union (i.e. in the question of recognizing the Polish government). Then the paper will also outline the domestic political situation that was influencing Masaryk's performance at the conference. The first part includes also the preamble of the UN Charter. The second part of the paper will introduce the articles in the Czechoslovak press that were reporting about the UN creation. I chose the following newspapers: Lidová demokracie, Mladá fronta, Právo lidu, Rudé právo and Svobodné slovo, because those daily newspapers were written in Czech, they were published in the period of June-December 1945 and they were published by political parties that were represented in the National Front (only the journal Mladá fronta was published...
