The Picture of Judas Iscariot in Contemporary Research and Cultural Contexts.
Poláková, Alžběta ; Lukeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Beneš, Jiří (referee)
This diploma thesis attempts to outline the image of Judas in a long-lasting tradition and follows the references of this character in canonical and non-canonical reports. It is an extension of the author's bachelor's thesis, which was dedicated to the analysis of biblical and Gnostic texts concerning the figure of Judas. For this reason, the author does not deal with a detailed analysis of these texts in this work and directly refers the reader to it (the work is available for inspection in the Repository of Final Theses of Charles University). The first chapters are devoted to reports from the Gospels and Paul's works, which the author serves primarily as a springboard for the introduction of various conceptions of the person of Judas, and which became the basis for the development of a tradition in the following centuries. In addition to canonical messages, the author encounters motives from non-canonical and apocryphal texts related to Judas, which have influenced the tradition of perception of one of Jesus' disciples to a similar extent. One of the subchapters is also devoted to the text of the Book of the Cock, which is not available in Czech, and to not very well-known topics that have not been very successful in the official church tradition. In the following chapters, the author identifies...

Svatek, Martin ; Ryšková, Mireia (advisor) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
There are many different ways that the power of a word is expressed in the New Testament. In most cases, this power is bound to the person of Jesus Christ, and its outcome is positive. Through his word Jesus not only heals, exorcizes, and brings the dead back to the life, but he also curses. This thesis discusses the question, what the New Testament says about various imprecations, maledictions and many other negative appearances of a word and the demonstrations of its power. This thesis comprises an overall outline of the passages from the New Testament and their commentaries, which appear to be close to the selected theme. In the first part the thesis deals with the notion and relevance of a "word" and "human speech" for people and their relationship with God. In the second part, this thesis delves into the area of imprecations and maledictions. The third part is dedicated to promises and oaths. The fourth part aims to the theme of wrath and how its expressed in words in the texts of the New Testament, that are connected with the selected theme, including the commentaries. Štemberková, Marie ; Ryšková, Mireia (advisor) ; Brož, Jaroslav (referee)
The Bachelor thesis The Figure of the Apostle Peter in Canonical Gospels is focussed on displaying of the leading Jesus disciple depicted in all the Gospels and the most frequently mentioned of Jesus' disciples. All canonical Gospels had their origin with a certain time span from the depicted events, so it is necessary to take into account the later reflection of his authentic life story. The first chapter summarizes the basic facts about his origin and social inclusion, attention is also paid to the use of the native name of Simon in comparison with the accepted name of Peter, by which he entered the history of the Church. The chapter provides an overview of all Petrine pericopes, verses and even brief references. The second chapter discusses the pericopes and verses shared by at least of two gospels, observing their coincidences and differences. The third chapter is focussed on special pericopes, recorded only by one of the evangelists, who, in these cases, drew on special traditions. Simon Peter was called by Jesus to follow among the first disciples, from the beginning he played a leading role among them, profiled as their spokesperson. Even though the gospel writers gave Peter individual character traits, he often had in their concepts to represent a typical Jesus disciple, with all the...

The function of the antitheses in the Sermon on the Mount
Janovská, Kristýna ; Lukeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Pavlík, Jiří (referee)
The bachelor thesis called "The function of the antitheses in the Sermon on the Mount" deals with the analysis of the six Jesus' antitheses, which are part of the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew. The aim of this thesis was to analyze these antitheses in the context of creating the context of the Jewish Christian community which, after 70 AD, was in a certain existential crisis. Evangelist Matthew was probably a Christian from the Jews rather than the Gentiles, which led to his effort to display on Jesus as a Jew a relationship to the Law that does not change and is still up to date. Each antithesis is initiated by reference to the Old Testament commandments or provisions, followed by the interpretation of Jesus, which confirms his authority to the God called the Messiah, who will bring the people out of the slavery of sin. Jesus is the new Moses who puts the provisions of the Old Testament or the commandment into the light of greater justice. My principles for analyzing these opposites were the use of methods and knowledge of modern research along with the narrative method. My endeavor was to show Jesus as the one who respects the Law and fulfills what has been said by the prophets.
