Support provided by a social worker in the treatment of children with eating disorders

This Bachelor thesis focuses on the eating disorders in context of social work. The aim of this work is to analyze the support of social workers who are in contact with children having an eating disorder. The whole thesis is divided theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with basic definition of eating disorder and its division together with risk factors which can worsen the decease. In the following section there is presented social work and its applications when dealing with problem of eating disorder and the role of a social worker. The child's social functioning can be disrupted by an unexpected situation in a form of eating disorder, hence judging the health status by a social worker must be done to obtain needed results used for choosing appropriate intervention and the treatment. The second last chapter of the theoretical part is devoted to possible treatments. Finally, there is presented a list of institutions dealing with disorders in the Czech Republic. Patterns of social network use in young adults with an eating disorder at the Anabell Center

Background: Social networks are a phenomenon of today's time. Current scientific research is devoted to the possible effects of using social networks. One of the serious impacts is the effect on self-perception and the negative consequences resulting from it, such as anxiety about appearance, comparison, dissatisfaction with one's body. This can become one of the factors in the development of eating disorders, or negatively influence their course. Aims: The aim of the research was to describe the patterns of social media use among young adults with eating disorders attending the Anabell Center. Another goal of the research was to focus on possible excessive use of social networks and addiction to them. The research also aimed to explore interactions between social media use and eating disorders. Sample: The sample was selected through intentional purposive sampling across institutions. Clients from the Anabell Center aged 20-35 years were contacted in the spring of 2022 via email request. Nineteen interested women responded and all were included in the study. The influence of social media on the eating disorder recovery

This bachelor thesis examines the relationship between the eating disorder treatment process and the influence of fitness influencers on social media. Specifically, it uses qualitative methods to research the motivations for membership in an online fitness community of individuals with a history of these disorders, along with the benefits of the content shared there. The thesis is divided into three main parts, of which the first part defines the discussed concepts in the context of the research and presents the current state of knowledge within the topic. Eating disorders are linked to social media and broken down in the context of different treatment options, followed by an introduction to the phenomenon of creating online communities within the field of digital health, which also frames the research. The second, methodological part of the thesis is devoted to the conduct of the digital ethnographic research, the definition of the objectives and research questions, the description of the chosen methods and their ethics. Eating disorders in students of dietetics and nutrition and the effect of nutrition on their nutritional status

The bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of eating disorders in students of nutritional therapy and the influence of nutrition on their nutritional status. This work is focused on the issue of eating disorders (hereinafter referred to as "PPD") and their prevalence among nutritional therapy students and the consequences of eating disorders. These are now very widespread diseases that have not been talked about enough until now. Diseases mainly affect young people, but adults are no exception, as their treatment is both psychologically and often nutritionally difficult. The aim of the work is to determine the risk of pathological eating behavior in nutritional therapy students, how the diet of students with PPP and without PPP differs. Data and results are determined using the standardized questionnaires ORTO-15 and EAT-26 (Eating Attitudes Test-26) and using a self-administered questionnaire. The practical part also deals with the analysis of the obtained menus and then the eating habits of the students of the field of nutritional therapy according to whether they are/have been through PPP or not. Nutrition therapy students who underwent PPP show different eating behavior than students without PPP, especially in controlling their energy intake and reduced carbohydrate intake. Overall, 10.6 % of students achieved a pink score in the EAT-26 questionnaire and even 74 % in the ORTO-15 questionnaire. It is certainly advisable to continue to increase awareness of PPP among experts and the lay public.
Relevance of nutritional recommendations obtained electronically from different sources

This thesis focuses on nutritional recommendations as information provided by national and international institutions that they receive to individuals. It can be their activity in society and the creation of educational materials or the opportunity to address them directly about a specific problem. The theoretical part introduces the topic of general nutritional recommendations, which are designed primarily for the whole society or for a certain group of people (like children, seniors etc.). Finally, the exact topics that are not usually included in the general nutritional recommendations for the population are discussed. These are mainly health conditions where a specific direction of diet is necessary, and the diet has its given restrictions. The topics were selected based on their popularity and topicality in the population. The work analyzes topics such as salt intake in food, iron deficiency, eating disorders, possible nutrient deficiencies in the vegetarian diet, but also metabolic disorders such as phenylketonuria, milk protein allergy or lactose intolerance. Anorexia nervosa - recovery

The rigorous thesis deals with anorexia nervosa as one of the basic forms of eating disorders, with emphasis on the very common chronic progression of this serious psychiatric illness. This thesis is based on the scientific fact, that conspicuous eating habits, constant control of thinking and behavior, as well as self-perception disorders, are observed in most cases, even in already cured patients. Risk factors such a long-term stress or prone personality, can result in the acute phase of anorexia nervosa. The rigorous thesis is qualitatively focused. The chosen methods of data collection are a questionnaire survey and a following semi-structured interview. The condition for participation in the research is the past experience with anorexia nervosa, without the current presence of the acute phase of this disease. The main goal of the rigorous thesis is to take a look, through specific stories of interviewed respondents, on individual ways of the recovery from the acute phase of anorexia nervosa, to map their current feelings, needs and burning issues. Based on the survey results, the outcome of the rigorous thesis are the specific recommendations for individuals who are prone to the emergence of recurrence of anorexia nervosa. The influence of diet on the absence and recovery of the menstrual cycle

The aim of my Bachelors thesis was to find out what effect diet has on menstrual cycle loss and what effect diet has on menstrual cycle repair. Eating disorders, malnutrition, alternative diets, low body fat, hormonal contraceptives, stress, reduced energy intake and excessive physical activity can have a negative impact on the menstrual system. One of the most common forms of secondary amenorrhea is functional hypothalamic amenorrhea. Low level of estrogen occur, which has a negative effect not only on the reproductive system of women, but also on their overall health. Secondary amenorrhea that lasts 6 months or more results in thinning of the bones (osteoporosis) in postmenopausal age. Early therapy is necessary for the proper function of the female reproductive system. In the practical part, I evaluated a questionnaire of my own design and analyzed the diet records from respondents who have faced or are facing loss of menstrual cycle. The results of my questionnaire investigation confirm the negative impact of the above mentioned factors on menstruation. More than half of the women interviewed have experience of eating disorders. Almost 1/3 of the women are on a reduction diet. The daily energy intake of some of the respondents is below 1500 kcal. The vast majority of the women participate regularly in sports. More than 1/2 of the women experience frequent fatigue, stress and were facing difficult life situation at the time of loss of menstruation. Only less than 1/4 of the respondents use hormonal contraceptives or have an IUD in place. According to the questionnaire survey, more than half of gynaecologists do not deal with loss of menstrual cycle. After evaluating individual diets, it is clear that loss of menstrual periods occurs with low energy intake. By increasing energy intake, menstruation returns.
The effect of addictive substances on the nutritional status of patients

This bachelor's thesis looks at the influence of addictive substances on a patient's nutritional status. The aim of this work was to map the nutritional status of patients using addictive substances and any change in nutritional status during treatment. The theoretical section looks at the characteristics and distribution of addictive substances, the outcome of their effect on the patient's nutritional state and psyche. Furthermore, this work focuses on the concept of addiction, syndrome of addiction and treatment. It then focuses in more detail on eating disorders in their context of users of addictive substances. I have chosen qualitative research for this work. The research body of this work is formed by ten psychiatric hospital patients. In the form of semi-structured interviews, it identifies eating habits at the time of active substance use and changes in those habits during the treatment process. The practical part consists of two chapters. The first is dedicated to case studies of individual patients, calculating energy intake from weekly menus. In the second chapter, the results of semi-structured interviews with patients are evaluated. This work shows that being in a drug rehabilitation clinic benefits the patients studied in terms of their nutritional status. Most of them experienced weight gain and subsequent stabilisation due to a regular and balanced diet. Part of the benefit of this work is helping to adjust and renew menus, calculate the dietary system and overall communication with patients at this facility.
