How CTK reports: analysis of news agency production on example of air accidents in the Czech republic in 2011
Zuska, Adam ; Trunečková, Ludmila (advisor) ; Šírová, Tereza (referee)
Air accidents related to both airplanes and airliners are often at the centre of heightened media attention. Whereas commercial media often choose to include in their news service only those accidents that result in number of fatalities or in a significant property damage, public service broadcasters should not take into account these criteria on order to provide balanced and versatile news service promoting an independent formation of opinions. In the case of news agencies, whose general mission is to collect and provide information, this assumption is doubly true. This thesis aims to analyse textual news products of the Czech News Agency using the example of the Agency's news coverage of air accident which happened in 2011 in the Czech Republic. This analysis will be used to determine the information quality on The first part of this thesis offers a theoretical basis for analysis - it describes the circumstances of the selection of news and related critical thinking approaches. The second part involves the actual qualitative content analysis of the news, mainly through comparison of media production with institutionally processed data depicting the real state of aviation accidents in the analysed period.
Tendencies of development in internal news service of ČTK
Králová, Vanda ; Trunečková, Ludmila (advisor) ; Hájek, Roman (referee)
The diploma thesis "Development of Home service in the CTK" focuses on the changing news production in the Czech News Agency (CTK), a dominant national news agency in the Czech republic, between 1993 and 2013. From the very beginning of 1990's the agency started to be a public service institution, but obliged to earn money on its own. Already in 1990's it stopped receiving state subsidies, having to severly cut its costs and reduce the number of employees. Despite this,CTK increased range of its services as well as number of clients and also fought succesfully its competitors. This thesis tries to answer the question how have these changes influenced the news service. It follows the changes in number of published news articles, structure of the articles and also focuses on application of chosen theme categories, sources, quatations and with the title. Quantitative content analysis has been chosen as a method of research, using two sampled weeks in 1993 and 2013. There were more than 770 news articles analysed, focusing on 12 areas of research. Theoretical ground for this thesis consisted of methodology of media research as well as sources on CTK's history and function, including its annual reports.

Vančurová, Kateřina ; Trunečková, Ludmila (advisor) ; Francová, Pavla (referee)
The diploma thesis "The Influence of Agency News from the Czech News Agency on the Content of Foreign News Sections in Periodicals" is focused on the thematic a geopolitical focus of the foreign news sections of Czech national dailies in comparison with the agency service of the Czech Newa Agency (CTK). The thesis strives to answer the question, how similar they are. At the same time, work with sources is compared. The theoretical basis for this thesis lies in the theorie of gatekeeping, news values and agenda setting. Two month-long periods were analyzed in the thesis, with emphasis on the comparability of the work with sources. March 2012, a so-called usual month with no expected events of big importance, was compared to the period between 20 October and 20 November 2012, when presidential elections went on in the United States of America. Three hypotheses were determined; of them, two were confirmed and one partially disproved. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Hanzlík, Václav ; Trunečková, Ludmila (advisor) ; Kraus, Jiří (referee)
The thesis "The Influence of the ČTK News Agency Content on Sports Sections of Daily MF Dnes and Právo" describes the influence of the Czech news agency ČTK on the sports section of two selected national newspapers - MF Dnes and Právo. The main objective of the research and a conducted two-week content analysis was to determine how individual editors work with the agency service. Another aim was to determine whether ČTK is still the main source of information for them, and whether there was something that had fundamentally changed its position. The thesis also examines the format of the messages produced by ČTK that appear in the newspapers most frequently. It also includes a questionnaire survey for editors of both media and basic analysis of photo journalism, which is an integral part of the sports sections. To complement the wider context of the theoretical part, the author describes the current battle of printed and electronic media, sport and commercialization processes of internetisation and digitization, which largely influenced the work of intelligence agencies.

Media image of football in the Czech news agency press service in the years 2000-2010
Slomek, Jan ; Trunečková, Ludmila (advisor) ; Kraus, Jiří (referee)
The objective of this thesis is to describe and analyze the current media image of football that was developed in the first decade of the 21st century by the Czech News Agency (CTK). Using particular samples I am aiming to find the changes in volume, differences in topics and the presentation of the CTK's football agency news in years 2000-2010. The background of this work is mainly the analysis of agency created news, issued in a specifically chosen period of time and then archived in the CTK databank. The thesis only focuses on the text sections of the news. Pictures, audiovisuals and info-graphics were avoided as their possible inclusion would significantly exceed the requested scope of the project. Information can be also found on the internal point of view (based on an in-depth interview with a CTK sports editor specializing in football) and also external point of view (using the outcomes from the questionnaire survey between the employees from certain print, audiovisual and Internet media houses, who are some of the main users of sports agency services, especially those specializing in football). This work will try to show how the Czech News Agency perceives itself, what impact it has and to what extend it can be relied upon as a reliable source for other parts of the media. An important...
Ethical codex and internal guidelines of the czech news agency
Beránek, Jan ; Moravec, Václav (advisor) ; Trunečková, Ludmila (referee)
This thesis is dedicated to the Czech News Agency (CTK) and its internal regulation. The regulation is an example of applied ethics in media and of self-regulatrion of this area. CTK was established in 1918 and its role has changed through the coming years, but first codified internal regulation came in 1990's. This thesis describes structure of the regulation, analyses its development and is searching for the relationship between the changes of regulation and the external environment of the agency. The set of regulations is also compared with relevant codes other media and news agencies. The result of the thesis is that CTK's regulation basically complies with general requirements placed on journalistic work and also comply with codes compared. Lower level of standards have changed through the years, but mainly due to technical development and widely spreading internet. The influence of concrete mistakes in the produced news is only marginal.
When the source is wrong - corrections in the czech news agency's service and on the pages of the lidové noviny newspaper
Mojzešová, Tereza ; Trunečková, Ludmila (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
Every news medium makes mistakes. No matter if the origin of the mistake is the information source or the journalist, a trustworthy medium always notifies of the mistake and corrects it. This thesis deals with these corrections on the example of the Czech News Agency to represent the news agencies. The theoretical grounds for the thesis are: to define the demands of news coverage, to present the specifics of the news coverage by news agencies, to offer relatively complex analysis of the work with the sources of journalistic information. The application section of the thesis analyses the corrections as published in the Czech News Agency's service during the first three months of the 2011 calendar year. These corrections are categorized by several keys: by the nature of the corrected mistake, by the affiliation of the corrected mistake to the specific agency service and by the priority of the corrected mistake. The results of the analysis serve a practical purpose to journalists because they show them which type of corrections is the most common for a specific kind of the news coverage. I assume that the majority of mistakes is corrected (or at least that none of the types of mistakes and none of the kinds of the news coverage is neglected more often than the others when correcting the mistakes), and...
