The book market development with an emphasis on the internet development including the concept of an e-book (relationship of a publisher - book distributor - bookseller)

The thesis is dedicated to the changes of the book market between its entities, libraries and final consumer of information (readers, library users) after the arrival of the internet. Development of the internet has brought searching of the new business models and opportunities for cooperation. Electronic publishing that, along with the internet availability, commenced to raise is the starting factor for the development of electronic books. The thesis outlines the roles of individual entities of the book market, i.e. publisher and seller (distributor, book-seller and digital platform) and libraries during the production, sale and accessing books with the focus on electronic books. After description of used terminology, especially different approaches to the definition of "an e-book", the next chapter presents hardware devices and software programs that enable reading e-books. The third chapter introduces the role of a publisher in the process of publishing printed and electronic e-books. The aim of the chapter is to highlight different strategies of processing the printed and electronic text, incl. possibilities of self-publishing which gives new possibilities to the author's hands. Albatros publishing as part of the modern media corporation and reading support for childern

In this thesis I try to outline running and production of the publishing house Albatros from 2002 on, after 2009 as a part of modern media company Albatros Media a. s. Within the framework of company presentation I also focus on its other member companies. The formation of edition profile is necessery to connect with describtion of present state of the book market and conditions for book publishing, in this case book publishing for children. Part of my thesis is also a presentation of competitors on the market with literature for children, outline of methods for reading support and consideration about how books published by Albatros after 2002 are succesfull. The aim of my thesis is primarily the describtion of the evolution of the publishing house Albatros after 2002 and its present state and also presentation of conditions in which the production is created.
Czech media's influence on the book market in 2012

In the introduction of this study I set out the current state of the Czech book market, how it operates, and the results Czech publishers. I also try to find answers to questions about various ethical and moral dilemmas, both in literature and in-person interviews with experts on the topic. The aim is to determine how significant Czech newspapers influenced the book market in 2012. For this I decided to use the analysis of media content, which is firstly explained and followed by a description and comment on the results. Then I will try to show the influence of the media on the book market using the experiment.
Marketing Communication of Neoluxor Bookstores in Years 2008-2012

Thesis "Marketing communication of the Neoluxor bookstores in years 2008-2012" discusses the usage of marketing communication in the book market, especially bookstores, on the example of company Neoluxor s. r. o. The core of this work is comprehensive descriptive analysis of marketing communication of this company based on secondary data and its specific outputs of of the marketing communication mix limited by years 2008-2012. Initially, I will outline the specifics of the Czech book market, its commercial and social aspects and I will define the position of books, bookstores and book culture in the Czech Republic in recent years. After a brief introduction of Neoluxor by mentioning its history and sales network, I will make the detailed description and assessment of ATL and BTL communication activities undertaken by the company during reference period examined, on the theoretical basis of the marketing communications mix. The subsequent definition of company competitors and the comparison of Neoluxor marketing activities with Kanzelsberger bookstores provides valuable foundation for final suggestions which can be used to streamline the described activities in the future. Odeon Publishing House: Current Profile and Media Image

1 Abstract The main goal of this bachelor's thesis is to present Odeon, an important Czech publishing house. The first chapter covers the history of Odeon since its founding in the 1920s by Jan Fromek during a renaissance in the communist era to the problematic privatisation in the 1990s. The first chapter ends in 1999 when Bertelsmann bought Odeon's trademark. The next chapter describes Odeon in its current state. Nowadays Odeon publishes many different book genres; senior editor Jindřich Jůzl chracterises it as literary fiction. I present all four editions of Odeon: Světová knihovna (World's Library), Nobelova cena (Nobel's Prize), Česká řada (Czech Edition) and Knihovna klasiků (Classics Library) including various prominent writers and important books that Odeon holds the rights to. A description of marketing and public relations is also included. A discussion of literary reviews and readers' praise for the books of Odeon makes up most of the third chapter. Reception was usually positive and complimentary of Odeon's quality. Jan Otto- Businessman and Banking Manager

The presented thesis deals with the publisher Jan Otto (1841-1916), who was one of the most important personalities of the Czech national society at the end of 19th and at the beginning of 20th century. Based on proper study of archival material his business activity in publishing and typographical field and his manager function in the biggest national Czech bank, Trade Bank, which Otto devoted over 40 years of his life is analysed. These are two basic thematic spheres of the thesis. The analysis of one of Czech economic nationalism manifests towards the end of 19th century which was a foundation of the company National business and industrial enterprise is a complementary supplement of this thesis. Otto was actually closely connected with the whole project. The thesis conclusion concentrates on Otto's identity question. The thesis is a case study for issues of national Czech business and banking elites.
Information needs of editors in publishing industry

This thesis is focused on the issues of information behaviour of editors from publishing with an emphasis on information needs and the sources of information. The first part deals with the position in the information publishing companies, the trend for electronic publishing and its influence on the book market. The following is an overview of selected terminological terms from publishers and their analysis. The next chapter is a summary of information behaviour theories, related concepts, models and current research in the Czech republic. The results of research that was realized for the purpose of the thesis between Czech editors are summarized and analyzed in the conclusion. Based on these results, proposals for the increasing of information literacy of editors are included in the thesis.
The Profile of Contemporary Publisher:HOST

In this thesis I try to outline running and production of the contemporary publishing house Host. The publishing house Host was established in 1990s' but the magazine Host, whose legacy the publishing house carries, has been working for several decades. The publishing house Host and the magazine Host have been coexisting simultaneously and shared almost the same editorial team. For that reason it is not quite possible to separate one from the other. In the first part of this thesis I introduce the initial existential period of the magazine Host from 1920s' to its samizdat publication in 1980s'. In the next part I try to ouline the beginning of the publishing house Host leaded by Dušan Skála in early 1990s'. The current shape of the publishing house and the magazine has been formed since the second half of 1990s' under the leadership of Tomáš Reichel and Miroslav Balaštík. In the main part of my thesis I try to describe the contemporary work of the publishing house Host which I make mostly through its book production. I also try to point out the transformation of the publishing house Host from a narrowly focused publishing house to a publishing house whose production can excite even a mass readerʼs interests. Summary of Czech regional publishers, their significance and place at the current book market

Thesis "Overview of Czech regional publishing houses, their meaning and place in today's book market" deals with regional publishers in the Czech Republic, their meaning and place in today's book market. The introduction defines the concept of regional publishers and determines who can be regarded as a regional publisher. In the next chapter evaluates marketing tools including the specifics of this segment of the book market. The next section presents an overview of publishers and detailed mapping quantitative and qualitative level of production. The conclusion reflects on the possibilities of development of publishing and selling their books in the future and is here summarized empirical research publishers responses to structured questions and clear charts. A Book on its way from Manuscript to the Reader

This thesis deals with the phenomenon of the book as crucial means of communication of the author (of the artistic and non-artistic) text with the reader. The material object book is examined in detail as a product, goods and object of the aesthetic interest. The work focuses primarily on the following questions: What is happening with the text from the moment of the manuscript submission to the publisher until the moment when is held in reader's hands for the first time? What subjects, institutions or interests are entering (or may enter) the game during the production, distribution and sale of the book and what is their particular role? What is the form and function of graphical and peritextual components of the book? All questions are answered in regard to the current state of Czech literary culture.
