Analysis of foreign news from the Czech Republic on TA3 television in the first half of 2013

This bachelor thesis focuses on foreign news service from the Czech Republic for the Slovak TV news station TA3 in the first half of the year 2013. Besides a brief overview of the history of Slovak audiovisual media and the founding and development of TA3, the thesis is primarily concerned with the relevance of foreign news service from the Czech Republic within the broadcasting of TA3 and its quantity. Reporting from the Czech Republic is done by an external team of correspondents in Prague along with an internal foreign team which, however, adopts materials from other subjects such as Czech Television and the Czech News Agency. The bachelor thesis therefore focuses mainly on the activity of the Czech team of correspondents and in detail quantitatively and partially also qualitatively analyzes its production. The two main events in the Czech Republic in the first half of the year 2013 were presidential elections and floods, which TA3 covered in great detail by live broadcasts and special programs. Along with the work description of the Czech correspondents during both these events, the bachelor thesis analyzes viewer ratings of selected programs during the presidential elections and floods.
The Formation of South Sudan in an Agency Press Service of ČTK

Bachelor thesis "The Formation of South Sudan in an Agency Press Service of ČTK" deals with texts and photos that are related to the declaration of independence of South Sudan and issued by the Czech News Agency (ČTK) between 9 May and 9 September 2011 (i.e. two months before the announcement and two months after). The thesis describes the background of events that led to the collapse of Sudan, Africa's former largest country. It also deals with the general conditions for the formation of a new state in the current international situation. South Sudan is the youngest country in the world. Its independence is a result of a long- standing conflicts and the formation itself was a unique event - many areas around the world are trying to gain international recognition, but few succeed. The aim of this thesis is to find out how ČTK captured the formation of South Sudan. The thesis contains a comparison of all texts based on metadata, resources and type of posts. It is followed by an analysis of main topics of the texts. The thesis also examines whether the news provided by ČTK was unbiased. Next part of the thesis analyzes photographic materials covering the formation of South Sudan. There is also a part examining how ČTK deals with transcription of Arabic names and titles.
Comparation of press agencies and foreign reporters news contribution

Diploma thesis "Comparation of press agencies and foreign correspondents news contribution" observe, analyze and compare foreing news in main television news sessions on channels Česká televize and FTV Prima. The target is to learn, if foreign television correspondents can distinctly contribute to the news progamme. Working hypothesis comes from theoretical scholar literature and practical experiences of author. The research establish approximate percentage of original correspondet reports and news agency reports edited in Prague in the selected media sample. With quantitative reserach approach the work evaluate parameters of each foreign news report. The goal is to make the analysis the most reliable as possible. It focuses questions as if correspondent brings exclusive topics and topics with relation to Czech republic, if correspondents are pushed to produce feature reports instead of actual reports, if live coverage is really the most up-to-date and authentic form of reporting, if world news agencies are really indispensable source of international news and audiovisual materials and if news agencies offer more complex service than televison correspondents.
Specifics of the tabloid Neue Kronen Zeitung and its position in the Austrian media market

The Master thesis Specifics of the tabloid Neue Kronen Zeitung and its position in the Austrian media market. Comparison of the most read Austrian and Czech daily newspapers tries to analyse the unusually strong position of the Austrian tabloid daily Neue Kronen Zeitung in the Austrian print media market and at the same time attempts to compare the Neue Kronen Zeitung with the Czech tabloid daily newspaper Blesk in detail. The first part of the thesis is mainly devoted to the daily newspaper Neue Kronen Zeitung, to its history and to the characteristics of the Austrian print media market. The theoretical part defines the most important aspects of the tabloid press. With regard to these aspects the Neue Kronen Zeitung is thoroughly analysed in the following part of the thesis, especially in terms of its layout, content, language, form and the way it addresses its readers. In conclusion, a comparison of the Austrian most read daily newspaper Neue Kronen Zeitung and the Czech most read daily newspaper Blesk is carried out. The cornerstone of the comparison is the realization of a content analysis which focuses on the political and foreign coverage of both newspapers. Agency news 30 years after conference on New World Information and Communication Order

Thesis "Agency news in connection with conference on New World Communication and Information Order" deals with problems of foreign news coverage. In particular, it follows the role of multinational news agencies. The aim of this study was to assess whether the news agencies reporting has changed during the past thirty years. The first part of the thesis deals with the origin and circumstances of the debate about the New World Information and Communication Order. The second part summarizes and compares different studies on the issue of news reporting on the international level. The third part of the work is based on the findings of the first two chapters. Using quantitative content analysis I examine coverage of Latin America by the world news service of Reuters.

Bachelor thesis called Display of a selected region, town or country in an agency press service presented on case of Great Britain deals with foreign coverage of the Czech News Agency concerning Great Britain which was published in a first term of the year 2011. Thesis is focused on written news only (not on photographies, audio or video), it is not focused on economic news and sport news. It brings information about news agencies in general and about the Czech News Agency, particularly about its foreign coverage. It is dedicated to area studies of Great Britain and consequently to bilateral relations among this country and Czechoslovakia, later the Czech Republic. Numbers of published news are filed into tables according to their categories, priorities and sources. Next step is to deal with an analysis of news published in the given period. It looks for differences among the news written by the foreign correspondent of the Czech News Agency working in London and those written by foreign redaction in Prague. Bachelor thesis "Comparison of foreign news service of selected czech news websites" deals with foreign news of online media portals iDnes, Aktualne and Novinky. The aim of this thesis is to identify which of these three news websites provides the best quality of the news. The thesis focuses on the diversity as one of the possible indicators of quality of journalism. Specifically, it focuses on diversity of sources, diversity of topics, geographic diversity and the content uniqueness. The level of diversity for the first three categories is established with help of an index called Herfindahl. Consequently, its level is compared within the analyzed media. Particular interest is put on the used sources of the news. The thesis among others concentrate on how often the media quote Czech news agency, foreign news agencies and other media. At the end the comparison of analyzed online media portals is made and it is determined which of them provides the most diverse news.
A Comparative Analysis of Foreign News in the Main News Sessions of TV Stations ČT 1, Nova and Prima in 2010

Diploma thesis "A Comparative Analysis of Foreign News in the Main News Sessions of TV Stations ČT1, TV Nova and Prima TV in 2010" studies the way of producing foreign news by Czech TV stations in the year 2010. Also, it focuses on the question which countries were mentioned. The introductory part discusses the Czech and foreign literature and offers the overview of TV news production, international flow of communication and factors which influences the production of foreign news. It also introduces the main news sessions Události, Televizní noviny and Zprávy TV Prima. The analysis of foreign news service is divided into two parts, first inquires into differences in used types of reports, their representation in the main news sessions, the topical structure and other characteristics connected with the production of news. Then, the second part concentrates on the states which were mentioned in the foreign news and focuses on the impacts influencing the production of foreign news by the Czech TV stations. For both parts of the analysis methods of quantitative research were used. The diploma thesis with the title "Media Presentation of International Relations in Czechoslovakia during the Cold War in the Czechoslovak Television" uses selected events in the defined period to show how much foreign policy of the Soviet Union influenced the Czechoslovak Television news. First, both Czechoslovak and Soviet foreign policies as well as media policy of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia are described, followed by a brief history of the Czechoslovak Television. The core part of this diploma thesis lies in the third chapter, where specific reports from the news of the Czechoslovak television are analyzed.
