This bachelor thesis is focused on animal rights and animal cruelty. The main goal was to document a current situation in enviromental-ethical context, including the legislation in the Czech Republic and in the World. The comparative method was used to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of specific facilities which cares of dogs (a dog shelter and a hospice for dogs). The results showed that the hospice for dogs takes better care of dogs and there is more personal attitude toward them from the ethical point of view. The results also proved that the legislation related to animals in the Czech Republic is appropriate.
The liability in the area of animal protection

English abstract This diploma thesis deals with tort liability in the area of animal protection. It summarises international legislation, EU legislation and also the Czech one. At the beginning, it deals with the definition of essential terms such as definition of an animal and its categorisation and introduction into the issue. It provides insight not only into the status of animal in public law but also into its status in private law. Subsequently, it analyses liability, its elemental features and classification. Afterwards, is describes important international treaties, including the conventions of the Council of Europe. At the EU level, discusses primary legislation, secondary legislation and conceptual tools. The part of the thesis which concerns Czech law focuses on the Act no. 246/1992 Coll., on protection of animals against cruelty, where it emphasises on administrative offences concerning this area. Also mentioned are some other acts regarding the animal protection. In conclusion, it does not forget to define crimes in the area of animal protection and against animals and subsequent sanctions.
Legislation of animal experiment

This diploma thesis analyzes legislation of executing animal experiments and protection of experimental animals. It is divided into five chapters, each of one is focused on specific area of the topic. The first chapter describes legal sources on international, European and state level. The chapter is closed by a subchapter about judicial activity. The second chapter is focused on principles of animal experiments and its two subchapters describe the 3R concept and legal principles of animal experiments. The third chapter concerns theoretical aspects and key concepts of animal experiment. It is divided into four subchapters, which involve the term of animal experiment, welfare, status of living animal in a legal system of Czech Republic and alternatives to animal experiments. Each of this unit is divided into subchapters, which are focused on specific areas. Legal protection of farm animals against cruelty

This diploma thesis entitled Legal protection of farm animals against cruelty aims to provide comprehensive overview of legal provisions for the protection of farm animals, authorities providing this protection and historical bases of the way humans interact with animals. The thesis has 7 chapters. The first chapter defines the key terms for this work, animals and farm animals. The second charter pursues the development of the human-animal relationship and philosophical, religious and other influences affecting this relationship. The third chapter gives an overview of the first legislation dealing with animal cruelty. We can find International treaties and European Union law on the protection of farm animals against cruelty in the fourth charter. Then the thesis focuses on the current Czech legislation, the individual areas of animal treatment regulated by law and in particular the Act no. 246/1992 Coll., On protection of animals against cruelty. The sixth chapter defines the scope of the individual animal protection authorities and finally it provils the overview of the possibilities of sanctions imposed on persons in order to protect farm animals.

Advantages and risks of introducing animal legal personality into Czech law system The topic of my thesis is animal legal personality and consideration of advantages as well as negative aspects of introducing it into the Czech law. The aim of this work is to examine whether the animal legal personality is a solution that could lead to higher animal protection. In order to assess the benefits and risks of introducing legal personality of animals, I analyze the current legal status and investigate whether animals have any rights today. Furthermore, I concentrate on whether the integration of the legal personality of the animals into the legal system is at all possible, and seek such form that would make the integration acceptable. The work is divided into six chapters. In the first chapter I examine the history of the legal protection of animals with a focus on its development in the Czech lands. The second chapter is a summary of current legislation of animal rights, especially in the Czech Republic but also in other European countries. There is a sub-chapter here dealing with international law that has a direct impact on the Czech law. Adéla Odvárková Carers for abandoned animals as a specific type of volunteers: the influence of the relationship with the animals on the construction of identity Abstract This thesis deals with voluntary carers for abandoned animals in the shelter and theconstruction of their identity in animal-interaction context. In the theoretical part, the author relies on the theory of constructing the identity of the animal's role in sociology and in our society. This thesis processes seven qualitative interviews with people who care for abandoned animals within specific organizations. The practical part is, except for introducing the institution and consultants, focused on the data analysis. The caregiver's relationship with animals began to form during childhood and further tightened through their help abandoned animals. This relationship had an impact that they decided to fully focus on taking care of animals in a particular shelter. This expirience was the reason to create new abilities and attitudes that are necessary for doing this work effectively. Legal regulation of treating animals in human care

This diploma thesis deals with legal regulation of the treatment of animals under human care. It provides a comprehensive overview of international legislation, European legislation and also Czech laws. On the international level it describes fundamental conventions of the Council of Europe. On the level of European Union this thesis does not omit primary law of the European Union, secondary legislation as well as conceptual tools. On the national level it tries to outline the key regulations governing the treatment of animals. Next it deals with definition of an animal, creature and wildlife, and categorizations of animals. It also also includes a civil nature of the animal. The major Czech law governing the main ways of dealing with animals in captivity this thesis describes the act no. 246/1992 Coll., On Protection of Animals against Cruelty. After defining possible ways of the treatment it does not forget to acquaint with the possible torts for breach of the requirements for the protection of animals, including act no. 40/2009 Coll., The Criminal Code. The diploma thesis deals with the legal regulation of the treatment with wild animals. It compares different terms used in legal regulation of protection of animals. It specified differences between concept of an animal in private law and public law. The diploma thesis is focused on possibilities of gaining ownership to the wild animals, proving origin of animals bred in human care. It concerns with legal regulation of treatment with handicap animals. The diploma thesis analyzes preparation and realization of Action and Management Plans and is also concerned about protection of wild animals against cruelty.

Legal Regulation of Animal Protection Ex Situ in USA and the Czech Republic This thesis aims to compare the legislation of animal protection ex situ in the Czech Republic and USA. The content is systematically divided in two sections. First section focuses on different law systems, which is international, national and local legislation. Second section explains the law used in different institutions that provide ex situ protection, such as zoos, aquariums, wildlife sanctuaries, etc. The thesis describes different legal approaches and uses several examples for a practical comparison. In its conclusion the thesis sums up the negatives and positives of each legislation and their overall quality and efficiency. The thesis also points out some of the desirable solutions to some current problems and a possible development in the area.

Diploma thesis: Legal regulation of protection of animals against cruelty This diploma thesis deals with national and transnational legal regulation of the protection of animals against cruelty. It comprises of four chapters. First chapter concerns ethical grounds of given issue and it provides analysis of term "animal welfare". Second chapter contains the most significant transnational legal rules of the protection of animals against cruelty adopted within the Council of Europe or the European Union. Third chapter includes national legal rules. It defines basic terminology, determines fundamental principles and considers certain sections on the basis of classification of animals according to the Act on Protection of Animals against Cruelty, No. 246/1992 Coll. It summarises sanction legal options and related practice. The last fourth chapter describes legal regulation of this sfere in Ireland, particularly with emphasis on newly passed Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013.
