The Renaissance decoration of the Lobkovic (Schwarzenberg) palace in Prague
Henslová, Barbora ; Nespěšná Hamsíková, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Zlatohlávek, Martin (referee)
The Baccalaureate thesis, "The Renaissance decoration of the Lobkowicz (Schwarzenberg) Palace in Prague", starts with a brief introduction into construction activities of aristocracy around Prague Castle during the reign of Ferdinand I who supported building of new residences in this part of the capital. Aristocratic families were buying properties and burgher houses burned out in a devastating fire of Lesser Quarter and Hradcany in 1541 and building their grand Renaissance palaces. Prague's High Burgrave, Jan Junior Popel of Lobkowicz, had his impressive palace built on the Hradcany Square between 1545 and 1567. He called an Italian architect Agostino Galli, who worked at Horsovsky Tyn, the main country residence of the Lobkowicz family, and he built an unusually T-shaped palace. Four rooms on the second floor still have well-preserved original coffered ceilings with paintings depicting scenes from antique mythology and history. Chosen subjects of the paintings, created by some house painter around 1580 when the palace was the residence of Krystof and Vilem of Lobkowicz, were nothing unusual at that time. However, the author of this idea was rather Jan Junior Popel, one of the most powerful aristocrats in the Kingdom of Bohemia.

Karalová, Ivana ; Županič, Jan (advisor) ; Havlík, Radomír (referee)
The diploma thesis "Colloredo-Mansfeld in the 20th Century " describes the fate of the Austrian aristocracy, especially since the collapse of Austria-Hungary. It also recounts the evolution of the newly rising Czechoslovak Republic, and focuses on the problems that land reforms brought to the nobility. Other chapters depict the members of the family, namely Josef Colloredo-Mansfeld, the owner of the estate of the Colloredo-Mansfeld family, his brother Jeroným Hubert and his four sons Josef, Vicard, Jeroným and Bedřich. The Second World War indelibly affected the lives of these brothers, their property was confiscated by Germans and the family was gravely persecuted as well. After the war, they hoped in vain for the return of their possessions, which were, however, confiscated under the Benes Decrees. All their hopes faded with the Victorious February in 1948, when situation became unbearable for them, resulting in their emigration. Considerable changes were brought about by the fall of the communist regime in 1989. Restitution laws were issued and their estates were returned to them. Presently, there is still a long-lasting dispute over the Opocno castle , claimed by the heiress of Josef Colloredo-Mansfeld, Kristina from the Czech Republic.

In the time of great social changes and weakening of the traditional roles of the aristocrats, choosing partners only within the members of aristocracy seemed to be an appropriate solution, how to maintain the existence of this social elite even in the future. The thesis also analyses the circumstances concerning the reconstruction of the castle Křivoklát after the fire in 1826, during which the specialists started to play increasingly more significant role. The context of the contemporary trends and different opinions on architecture are also taken into consideration. Another important part of this work is the issue of nationality, which is closely connected with the role of German aristocracy within the ethnically tensed society of the 19th century. "Principle of my philosophical outlook." Romantic Naturphilosophie of Georg Franz Buquoy
MORAWETZ, Michal
The bachelor thesis is focused on a reconstruction of fundamental ideas in the philosophy of Georg Franz Buquoy. It is based on the analysis of his tract Kern meiner philosophischen Grundansicht (around 1825), which only exists as a manuscript, and is deposited in Buquoy's Family Archives in the State Regional Archives in Třeboň. The discussion of this subject is based on methods of intellectual history. I proceed from the current debate on the relationship between natural science and humanities at the time of late enlightenment and romanticism. I endeavour to reintegrate Buquoy's oeuvre into the historical scientific and social context, and interpret his ideas about the world order and about the role of nature, man, and God in this world. The introductory chapter surveys the development of the historical research and analyzes the historical works I have used. Apart from that, I reconstruct Buquoy´s image in the historiography and explain which archival sources I have used. The 2nd chapter introduces the philosophical way of thinking in the Austrian Vormärz and explains the main ideas of German and Austrian Naturphilosophie. The following chapter focuses on education, learning and the interests of Georg Franz Buquoy. The fourth chapter analyses the philosophical tract under discussion.
