TITLE: The Phenomenon of Tattooing - The Body As a Sociocultural Document ABSTRACT: The work deals with the phenomenon of tattooing and its historical and current presentation through the means of contenporary visual culture. It describes the reasons for the occurances of this phenomenon in past culture, ritual and socio-cultural aspects of tattooing, with emphasis on their aesthetic and artistic fiction. In the technical terminology the text disserts with the techniques of tattooing and the principles of depiction, including themes, motifs and symbolism. Ritual Purity and Impurity among the Gypsies

In this thesis author deals with theme of the ritual purity and impurity among the Gypsies. Concept of ritual purity and impurity brought to anthropology Mary Douglas. Her approach became important tool to research Gypsy groups. Ritual impurity represents specific irrational quality, which influences social status of the individual or group and social relationships. It creates fundamental border between Gypsies and non-Gypsies and inter-communal hierarchy. Ritual im/purity these borders define clearly, but Gypsies cross and shift them. Within the families, this concept maintains inequality between men and women. Following chapter shows examples that go against mainstream interpretation of im/purity. Ritual purity is being kept by three instruments - Gypsy court, social control and fear of dead souls. Finally author compares Douglas's theory with concrete concept of purity and impurity among Gypsies.

Aesthetic perception on spectator's participation at the OG (photography, media)

Title: Aesthetic perceptions on spectator's participation at the XXI Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada (through photography and mass media) Objective: The purpose of this study was to describe and analyze the group experience of Czech fans who participated as spectators at the XXI Winter Olympics in Vancouver as well as the documentation of this experience in the form of amateur photographic images which were taken during this international event. Variations in the quality of the fans' experience when watching sporting events through mass media, particularly on television, and when engaging in an authentic experience at a live event were also examined. Methods: To provide an overview of pertinent theory, existing literature was reviewed in order to compile data from which comparisons, analyses and syntheses were formed. For the following section concerning empirical information, a file of Czech persons who participated as spectators at the XXI Olympic Winter Games was created. Data was collected in an ethnographic approach. Hair as a mirror. Social and cultural dimensions of hair symbolism

We focus on hair as a symbol of personality, cultural and social influence and the object of ritual ceremonies.1 Hair is not only a vitally important part of human body but it is an important cultural phenomenon and serves as important cultural artifact, because it is simultaneously public (visible to everyone), personal (biologically linked to the body), and highly malleable to suit cultural and personal preferences. Hair - whether present or absent, restored or removed, abundant or scarce, long or short, bound or unbound, dyed or natural - marks a person as clearly as a speech, clothing, and smell. Hair tells a lot about every man, about his age, social and family status, his sexual availability and desirability, about his interests, his character, his political stance and religious preferences, his roots, background, his membership in some subculture and about the fashion and the norms of the period (and his conformability or inadaptability). It is a perfect culture- anthropological topic becauce every culture has particular rules and norms how to dispose of hair. Phenomenon of death: research of burial rituals

The thesis concerns on the phenomenon of death and it's tabooisation in the modern Czech society. Attitude, whether the death is taboo or not, divides not only the society but also the scientists of sociological field. In the first part it sets up basic arguments of both opposing groups by analyzing relevant scientific and general fiction literature. The other part of the thesis concerns on author's own research, with an aim to find out, what attitude to death and burial rituals is adopted by informants belonging to younger-middle aged generation living in the Czech Republic, primarily in Prague. The research uses qualitative methods, method of concerned and unconcerned observation on funeral ceremonies and semi-structured interviews with a group of informants. It focuses on recognition, whether the informants speak about death, go to cemeteries and practice rituals in relation to departed. Based on synthesis of gathered knowledge, the work sets up a new attitude to death-taboo as two different phenomena differing by relation to departed person.

The journey of Princess Eleonore of Schwarzenberg to Great Britain in 1838 and her son Walter Prosper

The aim of this bachelor thesis is the reconstruction of the 1838 journey of prince Johann Adolf II. of Schwarzenberg to Great Britain, as described by his wife, princess Eleonore née of Lichtenstein, who accompanied him. In the connection with the British journey of the couple, the thesis also deals with their son, prince Walter Prosper, conceived along the way to Britain. With regard to the premature death of prince Walter, the focus is primarily on his funeral ceremony and the connected rituals. To explore the chosen topic, a lot of archive material, that had not been processed before, was used. Based on said archives, a partial reconstruction of the journey was possible, from the point of view of Eleonore, who is a rather overlooked figure in historiography. Additionally, the funeral ritual of prince Walter is described and compared with common funerals of Schwarzenberg family. Margaret Theresa of Spain and her arrival to the Apennine Peninsula in 1666 viewed by a contemporary eyewitness

The presented bachelor thesis deals with the cross-country journey of Margaret Theresa of Spain from Madrid to Vienna in 1666. The work primarily focuses on the reflection of the daily life of Emperor Leopold I's wife during her travel. Together with the baroque performance practice, long-distance journeys represent the integral part of travels of King Philip IV´s younger daughter. The essential of the thesis is built on the archival records of Joseph de Villarroell´s Relacion diaria de la iornada de la Senora Emperatriz: desde que desembarcó en el Final, hastaque salió de Lombardia published in 1667 in Milan. This Margaret Theresa's detailed diary, written in Spanish, had been compiled by one of the independent eyewitnesses and active participants of the above mentioned expedition. The thesis also attempts to conjure a vivid image of Margaret Theresa and Luis de Guzmán Ponce de León, Spanish governor of the Duchy of Milan, in the figurative speech of the above mentioned performances.

Bachelor thesis deals with the topic of rituals, including accompanying and operational forces, which are the subject of dance and appear in today's society. The aim of my study was to determine what forms of dance rituals appeared and created from traditional ritual associated with life events, what forms to survive in today's society and what role is played by dance. The content of work includes information based on scientific literature, websites, conversation, but also about my own experience.

The wedding of Adam II. of Hradec and Catharine of Montfort

This thesis deals with the wedding of Adam II. of Hradec and Catharine of Montfort. In a connection with the wedding strategies in the early modern period, this thesis explains the choice of a bride which was very crucial in the aristocratic environment not only for the married couple but also for their wide social surrounding. Then this thesis focuses on the whole ritual of wedding celebration from the courtship to the bride's arrival to the castle in Jindřichův Hradec in 1574. The nobleman's need to represent his noble estate is reflected in this celebration and Adam II. spent a huge amount of money on this wedding even though his domain was highly in debt. The thesis also analyses the wedding poems written in honour of the married couple by humanistic poets. Latin poetry refers to the nobility and ancient origin of the noblemen of Jindřichův Hradec and emphasizes the continuation of the generation which could be achieved only by the posterity. The marriage is observed in a political and religious context of the period because it is closely related to the noblemen of Jindřichův Hradec who had numerous links to the House of Habsburg and also to the following religious development in Jindřichův Hradec, which were catholic thanks to the influence of Catherine of Montfort.
