NGOism: An Analysis

The Bachelor's thesis deals with the concept of NGOism and its analysis in the broader context while the main emphasis is put on the political and economical context of the Czech Republic. The first part deals with the problems of terminology used in the non-profit sector and the characteristics of a non-profit organization as such. It is followed by a discussion of possibilities for influencing the non-profit sector by the state in legislative and financial terms. The last chapter summarizes different approaches to civil society and the debate that arose after certain tendencies of some organizations in the third sector were named NGOism and post-democracy. The definition of those terms is linked to the debate on the opportunities of the third sector to promote its interests through lobbying.

The Russian and Ukrainian minority in Czech republic

The article describes immigration of so called white Russian and Ukrainian emigration into Czechoslovakia during 1919-1922 which was realised according to an agreement between politicians of Czechoslovakia and pre-revolutionary Russia. A process of establishing Russian and Ukrainian institutions in the Czech lands is described and analysed as to productions of those institutions in the 1920-1939. Circumstances of the Russian and Ukrainian immigration after 1945 are illustrated and foundation of Russian and Ukrainian civil societies after 1945 till present is documented.

Civil society and civil participation at municipal level (case study of Prague 5 district)

In connection with a process of democratization of the Czech Republic the topic of an civil society becomes more and more topical. This study focuses mainly on one of its functions -- civil participation -- and on the case of the Czech Republic it proves Beck's hypothesis that civil society and civil participation mobilize itself in reaction on critical situation, and it tries to find an explanation of this hypothesis. To set criteria for analyzing the given hypothesis, and its subsequent explanation the condition of civil society in the Czech Republic is analyzed with regard to both historical and contemporary influences and public opinions of citizens. Then, the study moves to verifying the main hypothesis on the case of the Prague 5 district. For this purpose analyzing of medial causes and mainly reactions of citizens to it, is used.

Political parties in Slovakia between 1989 and 2006 and their impact on the civil society

The primary goal of this thesis is the analysis of the party system and civil society in Slovakia between 1989 and 2006 (when the last parliamentary elections were held), their dynamics and mutual influence. The collapse of the Communist regime started the process of democratization and the emergence of a new party system, which sparked the birth of Slovakian society. In addition to that, the process of democratization was significantly affected by the break of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic. The thesis is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, the reader is acquired with the theoretical aspects of the issue. The second chapter forms the core of the work and analyzes the individual results of parliamentary elections and the newly emerging political parties. In the last third chapter the author on the silhouette of the previous chapter's findings analyzes the systemic changes in civil society in Slovakia during the given period.

Fundraising

Theoretic part of this thesis describes terms like civil society, non-profit sector and non-profit organizations. Then is described activity of fundraising as a main theme of this thesis. Practical part of this thesis contains methodical instruction of asking for financial resources from structural funds of European Union through the program SROP.
