The aim of this thesis is to analyze basic technological principles of in-memory database systems, followed by a market research and selection of the products, which will be submitted to the qualitative comparison in a number of proposed criteria. Afterwards, there will be also explored the possibility of a performance measuring through the implementation of TPC-C benchmark, created at University of economics in Prague. In the introduction are outlined the circumstances and advantages, which support one of actual trends in database systems -- in-memory database systems. In the third chapter are described the most usual models of present database systems. This is followed by a next chapter, where are described technological principles of in-memory database systems. In chapter five are compared advantages and disadvantages of disc and in-memory systems and subsequently, the most common myths about in-memory databases are disproved. In a next part the in-memory database market is analyzed and criterions for choosing compared products are defined. Those products are subsequently compared, according to criterions defined in a chapter nine. In the last part is analyzed a possibility of a performance comparison of chosen products through the selected implementation of TPC-C benchmark. The most important outcome of this thesis is a complex analyze of in-memory database systems. Both from theoretical point of view, as well as from practical testing of chosen systems from proposed criterions.

The bachelor thesis Myths and stereotypes in advertising photography (Týden and Elle magazines) focuses on meanings carried by advertising photographs and on ways used to connect these meanings with products. The aim of the thesis is to find out, how these images show stereotypes and myths shared in society. The theoretical part of the thesis concerns first of all the theory of representation and theory of signs in semiology. It focuses especially on how these signs work in advertising photography and how the meaning is transferred between displayed objects. Furthermore, it introduces the theory of myth in the work of Roland Barthes and possible involvement of ideology and stereotypes in advertising photography. The analytical part examines advertising photographs in Týden and Elle magazines, using the semiological method. The aim of the analysis is to find out, how the concepts and ideas in advertising photography differ between a serious and a lifestyle magazine. It points out the main stereotypes and myths, that appear in the photographs, with an emphasis on gender stereotypes, which prevail there. The analysis focuses on the ways men and women are pictured in terms of activity and passivity, a role in life, expected characteristics and profession. In conclusion, the thesis compares the two...

Mythology of the indian Winnebago tribe. "Wakdjunkaga" - trickster and his prankishness
Eliášová, Helena ; Soukup, Martin (referee) ; Soukup, Václav (advisor)
I wrote this graduation thesis on this theme from my own interna! conviction. I suppose that the journcy oť liťe is sometimes very similar to the symbology of the Trickster' s destiny as depicted by the indian of the Winnebago tribe. That is the reasonl wrote this thesi s by hcart oť the anthropologist. The life is leasing by the effort to find the sense oť liťe that oťten runs away. Sometimes it is the seeking for the icons that we long for identity, anothcr time the dreaming and surrnounting the barriers that we design. The absurdity oť tbc liťc is not only something that came by the arriving of the modem and postmodcrn period. The myths of Trickster can show us how old and ancient is the absurdity of beying. When I was reading the myth of Trickster for the first time, I intensively perceived the Trickster' s stories pervaded mutually by the comicality, tragicality and absurdity as timeless. I started be more interested in this mythical figure and I explored how richly is this figure represented in the anthropological studies, as well as the bearer and narrator of this myth, the Winnebago tribe, offers the originality and peculiarity in its culturc. The first part of this thesis shows how the Trickster started to be the object of many researches in the anthropological and religious. The Trickster appeared...

Macrobius and his influence on the neo-Platonic interpretation of myths
Hlaváček, Jakub ; Putna, Martin C. (advisor) ; Kratochvíl, Zdeněk (referee) ; Pokorný, Martin (referee)
The dissertation outlines the fundamental topics in Macrobius' poetics and philosophy which were to serve as the theoretical grounding for the literature of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Our main focus was Macrobius' treatment of poetic modes imitations (imitatio) and its relation to a broader philosophical framework wherein poetic modes, viewed as ontological archetypes, represent the world of ideas. We have shown that imitation draws heavily on imagination, which in Late Antiquity became rather highly valued. We have seen that the creative treatment of a textual model (archetype) is rooted in the Stoic analogy of godly and human creative acts. The dissertation explains Macrobius' interpretation of myths and his arguments defending their use in philosophy. I believe that it was Macrobius' defence of the "truth of myths" (albeit we have seen that Macrobius was heavily drawing on Proclos here whose influence, however, was minimal) which lies at the heart of the medieval and Renaissance revival of interest in myths. Finally, we have discussed what role myths and other leading themes of the neo-Platonic and Stoic philosophy of Late Antiquity played in the alchemist literature of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

Sexuality in old age
KOSOVÁ, Kateřina
Age and sex are two terms that are not frequently associated with each other. Sexuality is a natural part of human nature, accompanying people throughout their whole lives, still in old age. The elderly are often considered asexual by society, and therefore they feel too shy to speak out about problems they are facing in their sexual lives. In this paper, physiological and psychosocial changes the old age brings about, ailments and sexual dysfunctions that may affect seniors´ sexuality, and myths that make sexuality in old age taboo in society are described. The objective of this thesis was to deal with society´s perception of sexuality in old age. The first sub-objective was to determine how seniors´ sexuality is perceived by students and people at productive age. The second sub-objective was to find out seniors´ attitudes towards sexuality in old age. The survey was conducted using quantitative research, an interrogation method, a semi-directed interviewing technique. The research set was composed of 30 respondents divided into 3 groups. The first group consisted of students, the second was comprised of people in productive age and the third group was formed by seniors. Each group thus included 10 respondents. The research was carried out in the South Bohemian region for four months from mid-January to mid-May 2009. The research results have shown small but very interesting divergences in the approach to sexuality in old age. Seniors accept sexuality in old age better than students and people in productive age. Unlike seniors, a majority of students and people in productive age perceive sexuality in old age as a taboo subject in society. The research has also shown that seniors are satisfied with their sexual lives to the same extent as students are. Generally this issue is perceived in society with some embarrassment, but positively. This thesis could improve society´s awareness of sexuality in old age, break a social taboo and make it easier for seniors to enjoy their intimate lives. Furthermore, the survey could be beneficial for students and related professionals.

Jean Cocteau's film Orpheus as theatre
Teheux, Sophie ; MIKEŠ, Vladimír (advisor) ; TOMÁNEK, Karel, Frant. (referee)

Stigmatization at Persons with Mental Disorders
PEŘINOVÁ, Eva
For my bachelor thesis I chose the topic The Stigmatization of Persons with a Mental Disorder. The thesis is divided into two parts the theoretical and the practical. In the theoretical part, I deal with mental health, mental illnesses and its division according to MKN 10, the history of care for the mentally ill, the status of mentally ill people in society. I also focus on social work with people with mental illnesses and the stigmatization of persons with mental diseases. The aim of the research part of this thesis is to find out, whether and in what areas of life mentally ill people are stigmatized. Another aim is to find out, whether and in what areas of life social workers, who work with mentally ill persons, are stigmatized. Qualitative method is used in the practical part of this thesis. For this part was used an interrogation method and a method of semi-structured interview. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with two employees and four users of Domino services for people with a mental illness in the City charity České Budějovice (hereinafter Domino). Users and workers in Domino were chosen according to a method of quota sampling. Criterion for the selection of communication partners from among Domino was a willingness to cooperate and at least two-year experience in the field. Criterion for the selection of communication partners from among Domino was a willingness to cooperate and at least five-year duration of illness. Results of interviews with users showed using of this social service helps them and they would recommend it to other people with similar problems. Interviews also showed that these users are faced with various difficulties that make their life difficult. Family and friends have turned away from two of the four communication partners. Results of the research indicate that one of the users does not feel to be stigmatized in any area of life, two users feel to be stigmatized in some areas of life and one user feels to be stigmatized in almost all areas of life. Results of interviews with female employees also showed that working with this target group brings different pros and cons, but one of the partners cannot find any positives in this work. In this organisation is worked with stigmatization and destigmatizion, this social service is also trying to be presented to the public in order to disseminate this target group. None of these communication partners feels to be stigmatized in any areas of life. According to them, this is because the public does not know with what target group they work. Communication partners think, people with the mental disorder are stigmatized in our society. They know some of the myths and prejudices that circulate about mentally ill people in our society. They both believe that media have the largest share in this situation. This thesis may serve as a source of information for general public and professionals in issues of stigmatization of people with the mental disorder.
