Use of picture exchange communication system in special preschool education of children with autistic disorder

This Bachelor thesis follows up the communication of children with autism spectrum disorders. The first part deals with the definition of autism, etiology of this disease, description of problematic areas in daily life of people with autism spectrum disorder and the characterization of individual disorders. Another goal is to get familiar with the problem of communication and alternative communication, specifically with the picture exchange communication system, its brief history, and especially its methodology. The second part is based on observation and case studies of selected individual boy answering the research questions and analyze the situations where the selected kindergarten uses this alternative communication system. This section is supplemented with photographs of specific equipment used by the communication system. Speech and language therapy in persons with an autistic spectrum disorder

The dissertation deals with the issues of speech intervention for the people suffering autistic disorders in the Czech Republic, and is divided in two main chapters - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part sums up the current information related to the terminology, symptomatology, etiology, diagnostics and special-education or therapeutic approach to the individuals with autism spectrum disorder. Due to the orientation of this paper we are taking closer look at the specific features of impaired communication abilities of the selected clientele. The practical part aims at both the analysis of the current situation of speech therapy provided in the Czech Republic and the supply of comprehensive information (recommendations) for its implementation with the people suffering from autistic disorders. Questionnaire was selected as the main method to analyze the speech therapy provided, distributed to three homogenous groups of respondents (clinical speech therapists, special education teachers and parents of the children with autism spectrum disorder). Identity in Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder Based on Interviews with Parents

This thesis is focused on parents of children with autism spectrum disorder, their parental identity and the factors that affect coping with this difficult situation. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part consists of two consecutive sections. The first section describes the main milestones in the history of autism concept, the development of etiology knowledge and the essential characteristics of mentioned diagnosis. This information is contained for the better understanding of what autism means and what are the parents of autistic children going through. The second section is devoted to the healthy children parents identity, its development, but also parental identity of disabled children parents. The focus is on the factors that affect the acceptance of diagnosis and coping with this fact. The empirical part consists of a qualitative study findings. As a method of research was used semi-structured interview, which we realized with the parents of autistic children in three different families. The goal is to describe the factors that impact parental identity of autistic child parents and to compare it with the known theoretical evidences, all based on real parental reports. Parents attitude to integration of children with special needs to common schools focused on integration of children with autism

Instututional education of preschool children is based on individual attitude of the educators at nursery schools. Education of children with special needs is for that reason just siutable at nursery schools where these children can be naturally developed in the group of the same-age children and also the attitudes and values to the dissimilarity of another children are developed alongside. The theoretical part first of all deals with the qestion of the preschool education. Than it concentrates on child with special needs, its family and education. The next specific part describes Autism Spectrum Disorders in detail and the supporting educational aspects of children with autism. The last part deals with the integration problems of children with special needs. The practical part presents the results in sphere attitudes of preschools children's parents to the individual integration of children to common nursery schools and also presents one of the successful examples of individual integration of the child with autism to the common nursery school.
Employment of people with autism spectrum disorders

The bachelor thesis deals with adult people with Autism Spectrum Disorders, especially Asperger's Syndrome and High Functioning Autism, in connection with their employment in the Czech Republic. The goal of this thesis is to find out the labour opportunities and the support for these people. The thesis consists of a theoretical part and a case study. Introductory chapter describes Autism in general and defines all of Autism Spectrum Disorders. The second chapter is already focused on adults and the problems they face and which often set apart the current society. The third section includes the possibilities of employment for people with autism, supported employment services, the legislative framework of people with disabilities and last the benefits which employment of persons with autism provides. Case study in the end of the thesis concerns a man with autism who used supported employment services and found a job that suits him. The theoretical part deals with autism spectrum disorders, focusing on their classification, etiology, symptomatology with an emphasis on qualitative impairment in communication, and care options for preschool children with these disorders. The thesis also concerns with the theoretical bases of speech and language therapy intervention provided for children with autism spectrum disorders. The practical part is devoted to communication improvement in special nursery school. It includes case studies of two boys with autism. The aim of this qualitative research investigation is to evaluate children's communication skills, describe the intervention methods to improve their communication, and describe work with children in the classroom, focusing on stimulation of their communication competencies. The influence of early diagnostic on families of children with ASD

The diploma thesis The influence of early diagnosis for family of children with ASD deals with problems with autistic spectrum disorders diagnostics. It is focused on families with ASD children. It also maps the period before the diagnosis. The main aim is to show the preceding situation and consequences after the diagnosis of one of the autistic spectrum disorders in the family. The thesis works with both, the psychic impacts influencing family members, but also many other factors. The acquired information is based on the narrative conversation with parents. It speaks about the first displayed symptoms and the attempt to solve the occurring problems. It also speaks about possible seeing doctors, and if so, what specialists and what approaches and diagnoses they met. Last but not least the thesis is interested in those who informed the family about ASD as the first, when it was diagnosed and the change of family life after the diagnosis.
Educational specifics of pupils with autism

This thesis deals with educational specifics of autistic pupils. In the beginning, the author describes the elemental areas of disorders within the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and the basic methods applied on work with such disordered individuals. The thesis also briefly presents the system of education of pupils and students with ASD in the Czech Republic. The core of the thesis is constituted by a description of TEACCH Program, which is thought to be the most effective method within the work with autistic students. There is also a research attached to the paper, which is grounded on informations gained from teachers and parents of pupils of the Special nursery school, Special primary school and Special school of ELPIS, where the ASD pupils are handled according to the principles of TEACCH Program. The survey was made by using the method of structured conversation and there were six subjects of the research, six particular pupils. The aim of the research was to find out, how much the treatment in school and at home varies and how are the six subjects influenced by this differences. Support for People with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the Czech Republic

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to assess support for people with autism spectrum disorders in the Czech Republic and to document an improvement in this field. The theoretical part of this thesis defines special needs of a person with autism spectrum disorder and his or her family and describes means of support and social services for the group. This part also includes brief history of civil society organisations that have contributed to the progress the most - Autistik and APLA. The next part analyzes experiences of parents of children with autism spectrum disorders compiled in a biographical survey. The outcome of this paper is a comprehensive presentation of issues concerning the life of people with autism spectrum disorders and their families in our country. This thesis also identified the means of support that are the most useful for this group.
