Conventions and going beyond them, taboo subjects, art and perversion
Mikulášek, Marek ; FRANZ, Vladimír (advisor) ; SÍLOVÁ, Zuzana (referee)
In 1934, the film It Happened One Night caused great commotion, for the heroine tries to attract a lift by revealing her ankle. Today, approximately eighty years later, renowned actors have sex on the screen in films such as Nymphomaniac and The Story of Richard O., and their naked bodies are revealed in close-up. Narratives in theatre and on film have (not only in the realm of the erotic but also in terms of violence and political incorrectness) moved, in less than a century, towards shocking openness, crudeness, often even to vulgarity. In this thesis, I examine the causes of these trends and the new demands such extreme scenes make on actors. Moreover, I attempt to place shock into the historical context and point out that it is not new - a number of great plays caused a scandal in their time. Today we live in an era which knows almost no taboos. We have seen almost everything in art. After listing the most controversial scenes in theatre, film and happening, I reflect on the question whether the current audience is at all interested in more shocking experiments. Which further direction will the current performance art take?
The Death Pit and the Glowing Swamp: A Permeation
Smutný, Jan ; Marek, Petr (referee) ; Cenek, Filip (advisor)
The work is connecting well-known symbols of alchemy and various esoteric traditions and giving them visual and narrative form. There is deconstruction and glorification of this type of philosophy in the same time. The characters of the story are symbolizing the german and slavic archetypes. Their voyage from the pit of death to the glowing swamp and vice versa is representing the ageless story of life and death, creation and destruction, body and soul, light and darkness. All the symbols are used in the ironic and serious way in the same time.
THE NAKED ACTOR or ADVENTURE TIME
Matoušková, Johana ; HAVELKA, Jiří (advisor) ; MAZÚCH, Branislav (referee)
This diploma work entitled The Naked Actor or Adventure Time is not an academic, scientific thesis to all intents and purposes. It is more personal search and enquiry of the motifs of nakedness, exposedness and adventure which further proceeds to more distant, yet relevant ideas as are authenticity, ease, play, states of consciousness, improvisation, sexuality, abashment, corporality etc. Certain parts of the study utilize some ideas of Jerzy Grotowski and the author also uses individual experiences and examples from her own professional career. On that account the form of the work itself is structured to make the best record of the very process of enquiry and thinking.
