Čermáková, Jana ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
This Bachelor thesis, entitled, "Media image of Barack Obama's presidential campaign in the dailies Mlada Fronta and Hospodarske noviny", examines the presentation of an Afroamerican politician during the primary and general American Presidential election period. It covers the peak primary election campaign and the finish of that campaign, and the start of the general election in 2008. The articles and reports published in the selected period and pursued this theme at length, were subsequently processed by the method of qualitative analysis. The goal is to show Barack Obama's exact media image as presented by both dailies, and this thesis also focuses on whether the coverage of the democratic candidate was aimed primarily at presenting him as an Afroamerican. An important resource for research was media theory that deals with the way the media shows ethnic and national minorities. The object was therefore to study the stereotypical view of the group and when describing Barack Obama based on racial stereotypes. In conclusion is outlined the resulting media image of the Democratic candidate, and is specifically pointed out the errors made by the media in describing Barack Obama. Keywords Barack Obama, american presidential election, election campaign, media, black, Afroamerican, stereotype

Christovová, Tereza ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (referee)
This bachelor thesis "The Semiosis of sexist commercials and the public discourse (the contest The Sexist Little Pig)" deals with the contemporary form of Czech sexist advertisements and reactions that such advertisements generate. The majority of sexist advertisements work, to the objection of various feminist movements, with simplified and distorted images of women. Their critisism is mostly aimed at those advertisements that depict women in a stereotyped way. According to them, those advertisements may cause or evoke a sense of shame or humiliation, insult human dignity or even provoke violence against women. The independent socio-ecological movement NESEHNUTÍ is one of those who grapple with sexist advertising and the problems associated with it. It has already organized two rounds of the annual competition "The Sexist Little Pig" for the most sexist advertising in the Czech Republic. This thesis aims to explore selected advertisements that have been submitted to the competition by the Czech public and detects concrete sexist distortions in them that exploit both women and men. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part deals with theoretical resources, such as theories of gender, sexism and stereotyping, as well as with the regulation of advertising in the Czech Republic. The second...

Bachelor thesis "A comparative analysis of cover pages of magazines Respekt and Reflex in the period of 2009 - 2010 (textual and semiotic comparison)" deals with semiotic analysis of the cover pages of two similar weekly magazines in the same period. Research sample includes five covers of each magazine which shows Czech political figures. The first part of this thesis it describes the theoretical essence of semiotics. The second one is about magazines and theory of cover. In practical part analyses the covers of both magazines with the aim of overall comparison in terms of their communicating intentions, construction of reality and its work with myths and stereotypes. Visual and language codes are studied in terms of denotation, connotation and implied postmodern myths. In the recent media discursus has been interpreting signs and symbols, decoding the hidden meanings and perceptions of the dominant ideology in the construct of reality. Attention is focused on the design of Reflex' photomontage and Respekt's drawing, as well as on composition, colors and using stereotypes. Result of analysis shows a consistent approach of both magazines to the dominant ideology, but a different approach to construct reality and creating the communication plan, which comes just from the way of processing.
Media Image of People with Schizophrenia
FANFULOVÁ, Iveta
Public attitude towards schizophrenic people is mainly influenced by what the media presents them. Especially in cases when the public has some personal experience with people with schizophrenia. This thesis tries to find out how Czech media present people with schizophrenia. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. Beginning of the theoretical part focuses on historical context and the depiction of mental illnesses in the past. Then there follows a chapter which deals with the disease itself, therefore, the main symptoms of schizophrenia, diagnostic and classification, as well as treatment options of schizophrenia. Another chapter deals with the system of health care for people with mental illness. There are also described some possibilities of psychiatric rehabilitation and community care, as well as describing what is the state of mental health care in the Czech Republic and I try to present the information regarding very discussed question of the reform of psychiatric care. In the theoretical part the attention is focused on the society and its perception of people with schizophrenia, there are explained especially concepts as stigma, stigmatization, self-stigmatization. The last chapter covers mass media, their definition and the influence they have. In the final section of the theoretical part there are mentioned stereotypes and prejudices that appear in media in connection with people with schizophrenia and mental illness in general. The thesis main aim is to determine how the Czech media present people with schizophrenia. In the practical part I used a qualitative research strategy, which was implemented through content analysis of documents. The analysis works with articles found in newspapers "Blesk" and "Mladá fronta Dnes", these articles were observed in the period from January to December 2015. The choice of the above mentioned newspapers was not random, there are two most favourite newspapers in the Czech Republic. Articles were obtained through a database Anopress IT, in which I looked for key words "schizophrenia", "schizophrenic". On the basis of those keywords there have been 33 articles in Blesk found, but one of them was excluded from the research, it contained the keyword, but the article was out of topic. In the news Mlada fronta Dnes have been found 89 articles in total, but 32 of them were excluded because there were just a very little about our topic. In total I have found 122 articles, 33 articles were excluded and I used 89 articles in conclusion. In articles I looked for connections to sort them into appropriate categories. The data analysis is based on the method of clustering according to Miovsky. Based on the processed results there was confirmed that the information that appeared in Blesk and Mlada fronta Dnes are subject to stereotyping. In the reporting period, people with schizophrenia were presented mainly negative and related to violence, aggression and negative emotions in particular.
