Cultural identity of migrants in France

This master thesis investigates adaptation and cultural identity of migrants living in France. The sample consisted of migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa and French overseas departments who went to France for their studies. The research contains a qualitative and a quantitative part. The qualitative study was realized through semi-structural interwiev, in which partici- pated 19 students in age from 21-33 years. Results indicate that the migrants identify in their country of origin mostly with solidarity and warmth of the people, which contrasts with impersonal relationships of an individualistic french society. In spite of occasional experience with discrimination in France, most of migrants seem to adapt quite well. In France, they appretiate mostly the opportunity to succeed in life, which is given to everybody, something that is far from the case in their country of origin. In the quantitative study, 40 migrants in age from 18-45 years completed a questionnaire survey on internet. Due to a small number of participants the research have rather orientatio- nal character. The Effectiveness of Cognitive Training in Patients after Traumatic Brain Injury or Stroke

Recently, the literature concerned with the possibilities and limitations of working memory training has been growing rapidly. Nonetheless, there are still no clear answers about the principles of its effectiveness or transfer effect. The main questions we ask are about effectiveness of cognitive training in patients after stroke or TBI. To our knowledge this group hasn't been studied in this context yet. To do this, we compare two types of cognitive training - extensively studied N-back training (n=11) and still more popular group cognitive therapy (n=9) with a placebo control group (n=5) who recieves "training" in a simple computer game. The placebo control group then continues in N-back training. Our hypothesis is that after 3 weeks the two trainings should lead to significantly higher gains in cognitive tests scores than the placebo condition. Also, we expected N-back to be more effective than group cognitive training in domains more closely related to executive control. We tested attention, fluid intelligence, short-term and working memory. We also recorded participants well-being. Static and dynamic characteristics of the linguopalatal contact of the Czech /ř/

An unique Czech fricative thrill - /ř/ - was studied mainly by Dr. Hála and Dr. Chlumský in the first half of the twentieth century. The methods employed were rather simple and the experiments were done on limited sample size. We decided to revisit and extend the results with electropalatography (EPG). Four female and three men participated in the experiments that were based on reading aloud voiced and voiceless /ř/ in various contexts. We dedicated a short part to dynamic characteristics of /ř/ and focused predominantly on the area of linguopalatal contact. We described the points of linguopalatal contact during /ř/ with adjusted anteriority index (CA). The possible factors affecting the CA are discussed. We scrutinized the differences in CA depending on selected factors for the whole group and each participant. The data suggest that thrill /ř/ occurs in the alveolar area. Anteriority index was chiefly dependent on voicing /ř/, type of the read material and also differed among various speakers.

Mapping the Individual Musical Experience in Post-Apartheid South Africa: A Bio-Ethnography of Township Dweller Lesiba Samuel Kadiaka

The dissertation is a biographical ethnography of an individual, ordinary musician and Mamelodi township dweller, Lesiba Samuel Kadiaka (*1962) in South Africa. It is based largely on fieldwork totalling more than 12 months conducted in five periods over six years between 2006 and 2011. It examines the possibilities of studying an average (rather than 'leading') musician ethnographically and their implications and consequences for wider ethnomusicological and South African music research. It makes a practical contribution to the wider debate about the relationship between individual, social, and cultural structures, and breaks new ground in its focus on the previously little known music and practices of Mr. Kadiaka's church, the Zion Christian Church. The research consisted mainly of ethnographic observations of various kinds of musical activities in which Mr. L. S. Kadiaka was involved in as a solo musician (songwriter and song singer) and as a member of the ZCC, on the one hand, and of deep interviews over the time span of six years, on the other. It consists of a biographical part dealing with his narratives about childhood in rural Ga-Mphahlele and his later life in Mamelodi township. SUR Theory - Psychotherapeutic Training Community as a Tertiary Family

Objectives: Theoretical contribution of the research is to extend knowledge about the impact of psychotherapeutic training on its participants. Community and group psychotherapeutic training is an endemic phenomenon which does not appear out of the Czech Republic and has not been systematically investigated yet. Goal: The main goal of my dissertation is to detect the influence of psychotherapeutic community training on its members. Subjects: The subject of investigation is 168 introspectional texts which participants of psychotherapeutic community wrote immediately after completing the training. The texts were developed from the diaries which the members wrote during the 5 years persistence of training. Research methods: Qualitative analyses of documents based on application of methods, techniques and procedures of "grounded theory". Content analysis and focus groups were used as complementary methods. Conclusions: This study formulates an integrated theory of psychotherapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioral methods, psychodynamic psychotherapy and expressive therapeutic techniques concentrated in a system of community and psychotherapy group training. The settlement evidence of the Middle Danube Tumulus Culture in the Prague-Slaný region (Central Bohemia)

7 Abstract - aj In addition to general information, this Thesis represents specific knowledge about settlement and the settlements dating from the Middle Danube Tumulus Culture in central Bohemia. A catalog encompasses basic information about the locations of previous research. The catalog includes not only the sites of destructive archaeological research and collections, but also the ancient sites with the insufficient information, incidental findings and the findings from the museums. These sites serve as a basis for analyses, defining the problems of this Thesis. In the Annex are enclosed maps with locations where destructive archaeological research was conducted, the goal is to identify the locations accurately. Sedimentologic and microfacies study of the Suchomasty Limestone at Zlatý kůň Hill near Koněprusy (Lower Devonian - Dalejan)

This master thesis comprises results of sedimentologic, microfacies and physical stratigraphic research of the Suchomasty Limestone at Zlatý kůň Hill near Koněprusy (Prague Basin, Lower Devonian - Dalejan). Six instructive sections have been selected for detailed study. Physical stratigraphic records (MS and GRS) have been used for correlation of two lithologically different sections (Section I - to the East of the Herget Quarry and Section IV - near the entrance to the Koněprusy Caves). This comparison showed that both sections correspond to the same stratigraphic level, and thus can be included in one sedimentary system. This assumption is also supported by preliminary results of studies on stratigraphic distribution of conodonts. Stratigraphic variations in MS and GRS may also be used for reconstructions of sedimentary environment and its evolution (e.g., changes in sea level). However, all measured parameters show only low oscillations and reflect probably only local conditions. Five microfacies types corresponding to three facies belts have been identified in the studied sections. UV-photochemical generation of volatile selenium compounds for ultratrace analysis by AAS

This thesis deals with the study of UV-photochemical generation of volatile compounds (UV-PVG) in connection with atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). Selenium (Se(IV)) was selected as a model analyte and many experiments were carried out to expand the current sum of knowledge of the topic. The study was commenced by assembling the UV-PVG apparatus in the continuous flow mode. The detection method used was AAS with externally heated quartz furnace atomizer. The focus of the first step of the study was on the construction of the volatile compounds generator (UV-photoreactor) with emphasis on the material used; tubes made of teflon or quartz of different diameters were tested. The construction of the apparatus was followed by optimization of the reaction conditions (the type and concentration of the photochemical agent and other agents, which increase the analytical signal; the carrier gas and the auxiliary hydrogen gas flow rate; the sample flow rate). Eventually, the analytical figures of merit of the selenium determination using the proposed method were found. Proteomics of biological fluids

Reproductive diseases, mainly those resulting in the infertility affect the chances of human being to reproduce. On the contrary, the heart disease, cancer and degenerative diseases currently account for majority of deaths in the world. Usually, these lifestyle diseases need longer lifespan to become the cause of death. The proteins secreted by cells carry important information about the cell's well-being, as well as about the condition of the tissues formed by these cells. Once secreted, these proteins may also be transferred throughout the body by means of body fluids, many of which are easily accessible for further 'in-depth' studies. Cellular and secreted proteins are often a focus of studies using proteomic means and the revelation of protein alterations can lead us to new ideas about the molecular mechanisms of diseases as well as possible identification of proteins that may be used as new targets for pharmaceutical intervention or molecules that could be used for diagnostic or prognostic purposes. Modulation of nociceptive synaptic transmission in the spinal cord dorsal horn

7 ABSTRACT Pathological pain states linked to several diseases or tissue damage are often associated with increased sensitivity to stimuli. The main underlying mechanisms of this hypersensitivity are peripheral sensitization of nociceptors and central sensitization in the spinal cord. One of the crucial processes of central sensitization is the modulation of synaptic transmission at the dorsal horn of the spinal cord. Studies included in my doctoral thesis investigate the possibilities of regulation of synaptic strength by cytokine TNFα, insulin and TRPV1 receptors agonist N-oleoyldopamine (OLDA). These three compounds are synthesized in the CNS, while TNFα is produced in the spinal cord notably during neuropathy. TNFα and insulin have a potential to modulate synaptic transmission. Endogenous TRPV1 receptors agonist OLDA can activate spinal TRPV1 receptors, which are highly expressed on central endings of nociceptive dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. TRPV1 receptors are known as integrators of nociceptive stimuli particularly from the studies of peripheral receptors on nociceptors, which could be sensitized by inflammatory mediators and activated by temperature increase or decrease pH that is unlike in the spinal cord.
