Interactive Guide for Zoological Gardens
Macháček, Martin ; Bartík, Vladimír (referee) ; Hynek, Jiří (advisor)
Even though a large number of zoological gardens fall under CSZOO union, there has been no unified way of presenting and managing this information. This project solves this problem by creating a unifying information system for any zoological garden, together with a modern mobile application, which serves as a pocket guide and a clear source of information from this system. In addition to functionalities such as events calendar, species, exhibitions or announcements, an interactive map is a very important part. Implemented system together with public stateless API is based on the Lumen framework. Mobile application is cross-platform and is based on Cordova technology. In order to establish certain form of frontend architecture, both the information system web interface and mobile application use framework Vue.js. Interactive maps are implemented through library called Leaflet in combination with Mapbox technologies. The created solutions exist as basic building blocks for future expansions and development.
Panda & panda
Kocmanová, Michaela ; Kalánek, Ing Jiří (referee) ; Brzoň, Roman (advisor)
This diploma thesis presents a project documentation for construction of a zoo pavilion with a restaurant. The structure has to be designed in compliance with regulations for buildings with almost zero energy consumption. Its construction site is located within the existing compound of Prague’s zoo on plot no. 1491/1. The pavilion is proposed to house giant pandas. The building has three floors- one underground and two above. It is covered by a flat green roof. In terms of circulation, the structure is composed from two parts. The first one is formed by premises for the pandas, including necessary facilities for their wellbeing and their breeding; and the second part is visitors’ part, including restaurant, gift shop and amenities. The building is enclosed by two exterior expositions for pandas which are connected with the interior exposition premises by two ramps- tunnels. There is a roof terrace adjacent to the restaurant for visitors to enjoy the view of pandas in their exterior grounds. The vertical structure of the pavilion for giant pandas is a combination of load bearing brick walls and cast-in-place concrete walls- the underground floor and the ground floor is formed by the cast-in-place concrete walls and the upper floor is formed by the brick walls made out of autoclaved aerated concrete blocks. The horizontal structures are formed by prestressed concreted floor panels or in the case of the upper floor by cast-in-place reinforced concrete slabs.

Analýza výživy a krmení vybraných druhů zvířat v ZOO Brno
Mertová, Magdalena
The thesis is concerned with the issue of nutrition and feeding of animals kept in zoos. Specifically, it focuses on two groups of ungulates kept in Brno Zoo, namely equids (Przewalski's horse, eastern kiang, Chapman's zebra) and ruminants (European elk, Indian takin, Himalayan tahr, reticulated giraffe). The main objective of the work was to verify the suitability of the diets used for the selected animal species in terms of feed used and nutrient composition, using available software. The professional animal nutrition software of AgroKonzulta Žamberk spol. s r.o. and a modified feed database used in the Liberec Zoo were used. Feeding standards were created for individual animal species based on the nutrient requirement standards for livestock. The results of the work show that the available programs are not ideal for the analysis of feed rations of animals kept in the zoo. To improve the analysis, it would be necessary to know the exact nutrient composition of the feed used. The results of the analysis of the diets show that most of them contain too much dry matter and other nutrients (especially crude protein). An exception is the elk ration, which would need to increase the dry matter content while reducing the crude protein content.

Leš, Adam ; Damohorský, Milan (advisor) ; Derlich, Stanislav (referee)
Legal regulation of the operation of zoological and botanical gardens This thesis details the current state of the legal regulation of the operation of zoological and botanical gardens. Given the ever more pressing need to preserve the biodiversity of the natural environment, the role of zoological and botanical gardens is increasingly coming to the fore. The appropriate level of regulation should enable the operators of these facilities to make the most effective contribution to the conservation of endangered flora and fauna, subject to compliance with all legal conditions. Zoological and botanical gardens are significantly involved in ex-situ species conservation, i.e. outside the natural habitats of species, in particular by breeding endangered species in the most natural environment possible or by cultivating endangered plant species in order to protect the gene pool, and in-situ species conservation, i.e. directly in their natural habitat, by returning bred and reared endangered individuals back to the wild. The first part of the thesis provides the basic historical, social and conservation context of the existence of zoological and botanical gardens, and also introduces the most important organisations and associations that contribute in various ways to the achievement of the goals of...
