Mircea Eliade - Narrator - Initiator. The Initiation Dimension of His Fantastic Prose

Our work is devoted to the Romanian philosopher and author of fantastic prose, Mircea Eliade. The unique feature of his fiction lies in the narrative building upon the initiating structure, and reflecting the mythological consciousness, which is perceived by the author as a means of escaping historical relativism. In order to analyse his work we applied the hermeneutic approach, which is in our view best suited for interpretation of Eliade's prose. The hermeneutic approach shows that the author-narrator assumes the function of a religious initiator, who is in possession of a vision of the world and conveys it to his readers. The initiated author can see a different world, a possible world that surpasses the material one, and he is able to bring this vision, inexpressible by words, to the reader. Thus, the process of reading and analysing such a text then turns into gradual initiation into the secrets of existence through its esoteric dimension. Eliade's aim in his fantastic prose is to show that even in the desecrated world the sacred is hidden anywhere and a man is still able to reveal it anytime. Problem of Grace in St. Augustin

This bachelor thesis deals with St. Augustine and his theology of grace. It briefly introduces the context of Augustine's philosophy, explains the basic terms, and mainly focuses on the interpretation of Augustine's study of grace. It first analyses the thoughts and ideas of Saint Paul, the Apostle, which are relevant to the subject. Then it moves on to explaining the continuous development of Augustine's study of grace: how it is portrayed in his early works, the way in which it developed in his argument with Pelagius, and finally it introduces Augustine's most radical idea - the concept of predestination from his work To Simplician. The last part of the thesis covers the corresponding topic of love, specifically the love of neighbour, as it is discussed by Hannah Arendth in her work Love and Saint Augustine.

Psalm 118 in the New Testament

Title: Psalm 118 in The New Testament Author: Tomáš Zavadil Department: Department of The New Testament Supervisor: doc. Jiří Mrázek, Th.D. Abstract: The purpose of my thesis is to analyze the usage of the Psalm 118 in The New Testament. The thesis consists of several parts; first, I give a list of all quotations and allusions of the psalm in The New Testament according to the edition Nestle-Aland. Next, I show links between the texts, describe how the original text enriches the meaning of the new contexts and how the intertextuality can be used in biblistic research. In contrast to traditional approach I emphasize the contribution of one-word allusions. I'm also trying to offer historical background of the Psalm and show its use in liturgy, especially in the context of the first century; as the Psalm was one of the most favourite Psalms. The following part of my work gives brief explanations of the passages in The New Testament where their authors quote or refer to the the Psalm 118. I focus especially on pericopes Mk 11,1-11 and Mk 12,1-12, where I analyze the allusions of the Psalm 118 in detail. The conclusion summarizes all findings of this exegetic work. Taoism in European terms at the beginning of 21st century. Presentation of this phenomenon in Christian perspective.

The thesis "Taoism in European terms at the beginning of 21st century. Presentation of this phenomenon in Christian perspective." Taoism as the original Chinese philosophical and religious system, which deeply influenced Chinese Buddhism and Confucianism, is presented in this thesis. The main principles of Taoism and Taoist writings are introduced. Taoism penetrates into different areas of contemporary European culture; its influence is evident in science, literature and the contemporary lifestyle. Special emphasis is placed on traditional Chinese medicine and Taoist exercises that are significantly beneficial to Westerners. In contrast, the risk is found in uncritical accepting and simplifying of selected aspects without a deeper understanding of the principles of Taoism and its tradition. These benefits and risks are documented by publications of Christian theologians. The difference in Eastern and Western thinking is the cause of the difficulty of mutual understanding of both cultures. The Healing Jesus as the Servant of JHVH from the Book of Isaiah in Matth 12:9-21

The purpose of the bachelor thesis "The Healing Jesus as the Servant of JHVH from the Book of Isaiah in Matth 12:9-21" is to research Jesus healing wonders in relation to Sabbath observance, his role as Gentle Servant of God who brings Justice and Hope in the New and Old Testament. As a part of this work acts a literary analysis of fragment of Matthew and correspondent passage of Isaiah, their own translation from ancient Greek and Hebrew and consecutive exegesis with using exegetical commentaries and lexicons. Comenius' Consolatory Writings

The submitted work deals with Comenius' consolatory writings. The writings included in the third volume of The Works of Jan Amos Komenský served, in particular, for acquaintance with the consolatory writings. The work examines the subject matter in four parts. At first it explains the historical and personal basis of Comenius' consolatory writings. It shows the brethren priest as a faithful shepherd of the church who in his writings consoles and encourages his sorrowful companions during an exceptionally tempestuous period. It also offers a general overview of Comenius' consolatory literature and a basic description of the individual works, including complementary information. In a special part it focusses on consolatory works as a separate literary genre, their historical development and linkage of Comenius' consolatory works, with emphasis on their theological foundation and practical aim. In the work there is also a literary and theological analysis of a selected consolatory work called Letters to Heaven, in which the author deals with the age-old question of theodicy from the aspect of Christian faith against the background of property inequality. Evil as privatio boni in the works of Aurelius Augustinus and Carl Gustav Jung

This thesis deals with the question of evil as privatio boni according to the teachings of Augustine of Hippo and the conception of evil in the work of Carl Gustav Jung who denied this Augustine's teachings. In the thesis I analyze attitudes that adopt both thinkers to categories of good and evil in relation to impacts of their conceptions on understanding of God, self-understanding of man, of his life, death and salvation, further of the relation of God and man and the human moral responsibility before God and society. Augustine maintains that evil is an absence of good, but Jung thinks that the reality is put together from the balance of good and evil. Their attitudes I scarify with the aid of the secondary literature and the explanation of that biblical places that both thinkers refer to.

Healing interventions of Jesus

Tato práce se pokouší z biblického pohledu zmapovat téma nemoci a uzdravování ve starověku v oblasti Izraele. Zaměřuje se nejdříve na starozákonní vyprávění o uzdravování proroky a poté na novozákonní příběhy, kdy Ježíš a jeho učedníci uzdravovali nemocné a křísili mrtvé. Bible popisuje různý charakter těchto činů: uzdravení z nemoci, uzdravení z tělesného nebo smyslového postižení, uzdravení z duševní choroby, odpuštění hříchů a exorcismy. Ježíš, jeho učedníci, stejně jako starozákonní proroci, konali tyto skutky na znamení přítomnosti Božího království. Jsou to svědectví (znamení) o Boží moci a mají vést přítomné lidi k prohloubení víry. Zjišťujeme, že Ježíš nikde v bibli neříká, že nemoc je trestem za hřích, i když starozákonní člověk takto mnohdy uvažoval. Bůh stojí vždy na straně života a bible nám mnoha způsoby sděluje, že život má hluboký smysl. Člověk může právě v krizové situaci své nemoci, nebo v ohrožení života nabýt s Kristem odvahy a důvěry. Klíčové pojmy: Spása, uzdravení, hřích, mocné činy, odpuštění hříchů, Království Boží, svědectví o víře, důvěra. Annotation: Málková, Eva. Church Music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Prague: Hussite Theological Faculty, Charles University, 2012. Thesis. The aim of this thesis is to introduce church music of Johann Sebastian Bach and its theological announcement. By looking up and appraising musical-theological elements at Bach's work this thesis brings near to the reader the theological, philosophical and mystic thinking of Bach. By pre-understanding and complexity of perception of Bach's church music is possible to see deep sense and aim of artist's work. In the first (theoretical) part I am engaged in systems of thinking that could Bach's church work influence. Then I am specifying the pieces that are supposed to be church music. In the second (practical) part I am looking for musical- theological elements that could Bach be influenced with. By researching of Bach's artistic style I am trying to find correlation of musical and theological contents and I am trying to point out that the message of Bach's church work is relevant.
