Consumer culture of social classes in terms of food purchasing and consumption habits Monika Novotná Abstract This work deals with historical and sociological view on the issue of grocery obtaining and consumption between the end of World War II to the present. Grocery obtaining and consumption is understood as a symbolic expression of social status in society. The work is divided into two parts. Theoretical-historical part examines how food consumption is linked to changes of social stratification. Research part of thesis builds on the theme of food consumption by examining the shopping habits in relation to social class. The main question of theoretical-historical part is whether and how food consumption, relates to social differentiation. Trend of convergence of differences in consumption and rate of consumption stratification of social classes are monitored in time series in two eras - the communist period and the period after 1989. For both periods, a secondary analysis of historical data on the consumption of specific types of food that aims to detect differences or similar trends between social classes. This bachelor thesis deals with a possibility of starting a discount retail store located in Brandys nad Labem - Stara Boleslav. The theoretical part describes retail industry in the Czech Republic and also different types of retail stores and factors that affect them. Furthermore, the theoretical part also focuses on factors influencing consumer behavior in the Czech Republic. The practical section analyzes retail stores in Brandys nad Labem - Stara Boleslav. The thesis evaluates survey results with a focus on consumer buying behavior and preferred way of shopping in the area mentioned above.
Strategy of Czech retail chains competing with foreign competitors

This master´s thesis deals with a problematic of situation on the czech market with consumer´s goods. Especially position of the czech retail chain called Konzum Ústí nad Orlicí, which belong to Association of czech and moravian retail chains. In the thesis I analyse present situation on the czech market with the goods and occupy with future trends. Its consider on the business policy of Konzum, their success and effect. I concentrate myself on the results, which are realized by research made by copany Incoma, to improve the situation and position of the Konzum and Association of czech and moravian retail chains in the keen competition on the czech market because of the foreign retail chains.
Supply of a specific assortment of goods on the Czech and German retail market

This bachelors thesis is concerned with the supply of products with reduced lactose content and products with dairy substitutes in retail chains operating on the Czech and German markets. The objective is to assess the extent of the physical accessibility of this assortment of goods and its availability at different price levels in both countries. The thesis is divided into two sections. The first section is theoretical. It defines the consumers of lactose-reduced dairy products and non-dairy products with regards to their needs and requirements as to this range of products and includes an estimate of the size of this market segment. Market segmentation theory with a focus on segmentation variables, legislative regulations concerning the specified range of products and producers and brands acting on both markets are also summarised. Section two follows the first section with an overview of the field research conducted of select shops from both markets. The products and their prices are observed and shops are evaluated based on their fulfilment of the set consumption basket, the number of products available, and labeling in shops. Price analysis is concerned with the prices of select types of products from both markets. The supply of the specific assortment of goods on both markets and the position of Czech and German consumers is assessed on this basis and lastly, market opportunities for this range of products are stated.
Consumer behaviour in retail chains in the Czech Republic.

The bachelor thesis is aimed at consumer behaviour in the largest retail chains in the Czech Republic. It is the main aim of the thesis to evaluate customers' opinions and the dependence of purchases based on the opinions. Besides that, the thesis focuses on corporate social responsibility of these retail chains and how they are perceived by the customers. In the first chapter, market research and consumer behaviour are described and explained. The retail chains and the atmosphere of the retail market in the Czech Republic are described in the second chapter. The last chapter deals with the research itself, and the customers' opinions on the issues mentioned above are evaluated.
Private labels on the Czech food market

This bachelor thesis is dealing with the position of private labels on the Czech food market. It also investigates the relationship of the consumer to this market. The main goal of this thesis is to discover preferences of the consumers on the Czech food market and to define the end segment of private label buyers. The first part of this thesis is theoretical and deals with consumers behaviour, decision making process and private labels. The second part is practical, where the final research is performed. There are final conclusions about the Czech consumers preferences deduced on the basis of the research.
Influence of Discounts on Customer´s Shopping Behavorial

The master's thesis deals with promotional discounts of retail chains focusing on a description of factors that affect customers in selection of a shopping place to purchase food and beverages and identifies the level of influence of promotional discounts on purchase decisions. This thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part contains fundamental resources, that are enriched by findings of foreign case studies. It focuses on consumers behavior and purchase decisions emphasizing the influence of prices and special offers. The practical part consists of secondary research of current trends in shopping behavior of Czech consumers, primary analysis of the action flyers and research focused on describing the attitudes of consumers towards the retail chains and identifying the impact of promotional discounts on purchasing food products. The recommendations for marketing activities of retail chains are formulated based on the results of the analysis.
Application of corporate social responsibility in selected retail chains

This bachelor thesis deals with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The aim of the thesis is to describe the concept of CSR and to introduce its practical application on example of retail chains. The thesis is devided into three chapters. The first chapter is devoted to the theoretical part. The second chapter includes activities of retail chains, in particular services provided to customers, projects for charitable purposes and a contribution of chains to environmental protection. The last chapter concerns a questionnaire carried out in connection with CSR. The purpose of this survey was to find out awareness of CSR among people, how important the concept is for them and if it has an influence on a chain selection.
Selected forms of Selling the Organic Food - Retail Chains

The main aim of my thesis was to assess the current state of organic food selling in retail chains in terms of assortment range, requirements and sale culture and to suggest appropriate measures based on the data obtained. The theoretical part is focused on defining the concept of organic farming, through organic products right to organic food. The empirical part is focused on the evaluation of the supply list with specific types of organic products offered in individual stores, comparing the offer of organic food between retail units, and finally comparing the offer of organic food within the former districts. The analysis contains also summarized findings resulting from a questionnaire survey among retail business organizations. The conclusion of the empirical part is focused on answering presented hypotheses and proposing recommendations.

The subject of this thesis "The development of international retail companies in the Czech republic and its economic aspects" is a comprehensive evaluation of the operation of international food retail companies focused on supplier-customer relationships. The dissertation is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the origin and characteristics of modern retail chains and instruments of analysis assess the competitive forces in the industry. The second part is devoted to the parameters of business conduct and analysis of the allocation of economic surplus in favor of the retailer. The third part is devoted to the role of prices in the retail, including price wars and its impact on suppliers and consumers
