Possible Uses of Camp in Interpretation of Czech Contemporary Cultural Background
DEMETER, Peter
Proposed dissertation is focusing on specific eccentric aesthetics based on hyperboles, ambivalent meanings and ironic attitude, which in Anglo-American background is so called camp derived from French. Camp origin can be found on the court of Louis XIV, where we can notice passionate tries to cultivate affected court-style culminating in baroque metaphor of the world as a theatre. Due to impact of modernity and postmodernity, scope of the camp extended to various cultural spheres and phenomenon began to corelate through its eccentricity with common marginality, respectively with something what is different from "normality" and "genuineness" also settled schemes of perception or ways of historical reflection. Goal of proposed dissertation is based on theoretical-historical interpretations to trace mentions of camp (mainly in literature) with focus on Czech background, where its rich interpretational potential can clarify most of social-cultural tendencies.
Folklore Movement as a Bridge between Folk Music and Other Worlds
Kratochvíl, Matěj
Folklore movement in the second half of the 20th century played several roles. It was a tool of propaganda but at the same time a means to preserving tradition or original art form. One of its roles, however, remains somewhat aside the main focus. As the original forms of folk music and dances were disappearing, the revival of them through performance by folk ensembles became the main, and often the only way of bringing the traditions to wider public. This was contributed to by interconnection of folk movement with mass media and recording industry. Through these channels the folk music reached musicians of various genres, who were thus introduced to the sound of folk music from Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. Based on their impressions, some of these musicians then decided to include the folk components in their own compositions. The result is a number of projects and recordings, where folk elements are mixed with jazz, rock, ballads or electronic music. The paper attempts to present possible answers to the question to what extent the folklore movement, as an institutionalised form of reviving traditional culture, influenced acceptance of this culture in other areas of music. The research, which forms the base of this contribution, analyses recordings and presents interviews of musicians from varied areas and of different generations.
Sex robotics: humanization, sexualization and genderization of sexbots
Nováková, Petra ; Dvořáčková, Jana (advisor) ; Kobová, Ĺubica (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on the analysis of tendencies to humanize modern technologies, i.e. the process of assigning human attributes and characteristics, roles and features to machines, despite the fact that machines are of inorganic origin, created artificially by man and thus inherently asexual. In the case of sexual technologies and in the field of sex robotics in particular, there is not only genderization but also the sexualization of humanoid- looking machines such as the so called sexual robots or sexbots. The resulting design reflects the binary understanding of gender and stereotypes associated with gender. The process of humanization is analyzed in the context of contemporary popular culture and post-humanistic theories of the study of human-robot relations, while also taking into account the binary understanding of gender and the categories of masculinity and femininity. Popular culture is thus improtant not only in regards to the development of sexbots but also in terms of acceptance by the users. Attention is paid to the possible positive and negative consequences of engaging with sexbots on the user int he contxt of the apparent human ability to form emotional connections to technological artifacts. Key words Technology, robot, sex, artifical inteligence, sexbot, sex doll, popular...

Machová, Lucie ; Fousek Krobová, Tereza (advisor) ; Vochocová, Lenka (referee)
This master's thesis explores the role of feminist ideology in audience experiences across pop culture genres using the example of the Czech audience of the American television series The Handmaid's Tale (2017). In academic debate, this title is associated with the existence of a relatively new trend of feminist perspectives penetrating popular culture, as well as with the establishment of the so-called female-centric TV series genre, which is characterised by a focus on women's experience and position, and thus on feminist themes. The aim of this thesis is to obtain findings on how representatives from the Czech audience interact with this phenomenon, namely the audience situated in an environment where there is a stronger tradition of anti- feminist attitudes. The qualitative research is based on the theory of active audiences and is derived from the analysis of six semi-structured in-depth interviews using the grounded theory method. The purpose of the thesis is to discover the different ways in which the respondents perceive feminist motifs in The Handmaid's Tale and how they reflect on them in a real social context, consequently in relation to their personal attitudes towards feminism. "Guilty pleasures": The tension between the pleasure from popular culture and good taste
Ružičková, Judita ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Jansa, Petra (referee)
This Master's thesis deals with the phenomenon of so-called guilty pleasures within the consumption of popular culture. The theoretical basis of this work consists of three thematic pillars. Specifically: concepts related to the consumption of popular culture by authors such as Fiske and Ang; a distinction based on taste and cultural consumption, in particular by Bourdieu, Peterson and Holt; and a set of theoretical-critical views on the very concept of guilty pleasure. However, this complex combination of (not only) pleasure and guilt is still just gaining more academic attention. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of this phenomenon, through individual interviews with consumers characterized by both high cultural capital and a wide range of preferences, known as cultural omnivory. Within those consumers, the contrast of low and high taste, the presumed clash of acceptance of legitimized aesthetic rules and their violation, are present. The research question "How do cultural omnivores with a high cultural capital perceive the consumption of products of popular culture - especially those which they consider their guilty pleasures?" is answered through thematic analysis of coded interviews.
