Activation of the Unemployed Youth in South Moravian Region

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the activation of unemployed young people up to the age of 24 through the Labour Office of the Czech Republic. The thesis analyzes the functioning, possibilities and specifics of the individual tools used to activate the target group. The case study focuses on the South Moravian Region. Special emphasis is therefore placed on tools and measures of active labour market policy and projects in this region. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the functioning of activation tools and measures of the Labour Office in the South Moravian Region towards unemployed persons up to the age of 24. The theoretical basi sis the concept of activation, understood in the work as an aktivity leading to employment. Another theoretical foundation is the concept of policy cycle, namely its two phases - implementation and evaluation. The analysis of public policy documents and statistical data will be supplemented by interviews with managers and employees of the Labour Office of the Czech Republic, dealing with individual tools and measures, who provide their insight into the issue. The questionnaire survey will also identify the views of young job seekers.

High school dances: youth in movement

The theoretical part of this bachelor's thesis focuses on mapping out the development of portrayal of youth in American photography of the last sixty years. I have decided to show this development using works Brooklyn Gang by Bruce Davidson, The Ballad of Sexual Dependency by Nan Goldin, The Kids Were Alright by Ryan McGinley, The Teenage Gaze and 24hr Psycho by Petra Collins. This thesis contains a basic introduction of each photographer and the sociological and historical contexts of the period in which they were creating. Because of that, I touch on topics like feminism, pop culture and social media. Then follows a visual and theoretical analysis of the mentioned photo series. The goal of said analysis is to figure out changes that happened over time. The practical part of this thesis contains a series of photographs taken during dance classes for high school students which are a significant Czech tradition.

Youth Participation as A Component of Stable Democracy?

The topic of this thesis is political socialization of selected former members of the Czech-German Youth Forum towards political participation and democratic citizenship. Four former members whose terms in office were between 2007 and 2009, but are still politically active were chosen. The objective of the thesis is to learn what competencies, values and thinking the Czech-German Youth Forum passed on the respondents for their further political participation and what the contextual and organisational circumstances were like within this process. In the theoretical part, selected factors of political participation towards democracy and political socialization of the youth during generally beneficial work in civil society organizations were presented. In the empirical part, qualitatively-acquired data were analyzed as they were obtained by means of interview. In the closing part, the findings were related to the theoretical framework of the thesis.

Youth unemployment in selected EU countries

The thesis examines youth unemployment in European Union, specifically in Germany, Spain, and the Czech Republic. The main goal of the study is to coherently evaluate a development of youth unemployment rate since 2005, and to find out its fundamental causes. The thesis is split into two parts. The first part covers a theoretical background of the chosen topic. The following part, firstly, investigates individual countries in terms of labour market development, impacts of the world crises, and educational systems. Subsequently, the rate of young unemployed people in the selected countries is analysed. The work investigates the development of youth unemployment rate, the long-term youth unemployment rate, the NEET, and the European Union actions.

Brand product as a symbol of young participants

This theses Brand product as a symbol of young participants is focused on the phenomenon of brands, which is interpreted through its relation to social status. In the theoretical part of the theses there are two contradictory views discussed (T. Veblen's and G. Lipovetsky's), which provide two different points of view concerning contemporary society and the relation between luxurious goods and social status. Through this discussion the thesis provides the characteritics of youth in the context of its developement during the 20th century. Another discussed topic are marketing techniques focusing on today's young generation. In the research part the author aims to find a connection between luxurious brands consumption and the concept of status among young adults studying Czech high schools. Results did not prove this connection to be very strong, and it seems therefore that Lipovetsky's point of view was the one closer to our analysis.

Sects and identity search of young person

This bachelor thesis examines new religious movements and their placement into today's world. In the first chapter the basic terms such as "religion", "new religious movements" and "cults" are defined. Characteristic traits of cults and their regime is also being dealt with in this part. In the second chapter the term "youth" is defined and examined from psychological and religious point of view. The term "leisure" is then also defined and different ways of spending leisure time are suggested. The thesis introduces hazardous aspects of spending leisure time which occur mainly at the time of adolescence. In the third chapter the interconnection of these issues is being examined and the author is dealing with the question whether, and to what degree, these cults can influence a healthy development of the adolescent.

Youth and the Fear of Death

This thesis focuses on death, fearing of death and the way youth is perceived by western society as a preferred era in the life of an individual. It defines youth as a sociodemographic category and examines the problematic role of youth in modern society. It offers an insight into historical perspectives on death, fear of it and how these perspectives have changed. It examines Plato's theory of reincarnation, medieval Christianity's stance towards death, Hume's critical view of whether a soul actually exists and Heidegger's perception of death as an authentic way to end one's life. The thesis emphasizes the fear of death in modern society and the absence of relevant thanatological literature that would approach death in modern society as a complex phenomenon. It notices the ambivalent attitude towards youth in the history of modern society and pinpoints the peculiar position of youth the 20th century. It includes both the rise of the so- called death awareness movement in the second half of 20th century, as well as the hospice movement, that slowly brings brings back the original and private meaning of death into society. This thesis also examines whether the current modern society is in fact death- denying. At its very end, the thesis ponders about the possible future of death as a phenomenon in the modern...

Life situation of university students in terms of adulthood

Diplomová práce: Životní situace vysokoškolských studentů z hlediska dospělosti (Life situation of university students in terms of adulthood) Zpracovala: Barbora Musilová Abstract Diploma thesis " Life situation of university students in terms of adulthood" aims to show how young people currently studying university perceive their life situation and how much they feel to be adults. The thesis seeks the answers in qualitative analysis of students of Prague universities. Theoretical background of empirical part is formed by theories of present time analysts which highlight the variability and instability of social conditions. The result of this instability is that there are shifts of the timing of life events in the life cycles and challenging the traditional definition of adulthood as defined for example, independent living and marriage. Trends in the life of young students, such as prolonged studies or leaving home parents in late time point to a new stage, which haven't been in the life paths of previous generations. Living situation of young university students is not only extending the transition to adulthood, but the independent stage, which also raises the need to redefine the earlier definition of valid adulthood.

Sociological interpretation of hippies movement

My bachelor thesis explores the hippie movement, which emerged in the middle of the sixties in the United States of America. The theoretical framework consists of sociological concepts of culture, subculture, youth and youth subcultures, communities, communes and social movements. The hippie movement was young people's response to middle class consumerism, which preferred material prosperity to moral and cultural values. The American transcendentalist movement and the Beat Generation can be considered its intellectual precursor. The movement's main characteristic was rejection of middle class values. Therefore, some authors have called it a counterculture. Hippies gave up studies and tangible assets. Typical for them was lack of confidence in the future, interest in oriental philosophy and religion, close relationship to nature, specific clothing style, living in communes and the use of drugs, especially LSD. The movement dissipated at the end of the sixties. Its influence is still evident in the effort to fight for human rights, peace, free network, but also in music and clothing. Some of the hippie movement's ideas are the source of today's youth subcultures and movements. Key words: social movement, youth, community, hippies, LSD
