Topographies of Culture and Identity: The Role of Landscapes and Cityscapes in Selected Film Representations of Ireland

1 Abstract The thesis focuses on the role of landscapes and cityscapes in selected film representations of Ireland. It is the discipline of cultural geography which serves as the primary theoretical basis for this analysis. Firstly, the general observations concerning the social elaboration of place are applied within the particular cultural context. Thus, it becomes revealed that these socio- cultural practices bear a special significance in Irish culture. Apart from that, the thesis also fully delineates the complex nature of both the concept of Irish identity and Irish cinema. This account provides the basis for to the primary assertion that film portrayals of Ireland require strongly a wide, non-linear analytical approach. Importantly, the thesis also draws attention to particular cultural dichotomies which prevail within most realms of Irish society, showing a tension between its relationship to the present and the past. Within the context of film representation, this binary cultural perspective is then presented as a phenomenon which has had a significant impact on both the process of filmmaking in Ireland, as well as on the perception of produced films. TŮMOVÁ, M.: Changes of the microregion Rychnov nad Kněžnou between two world wars in the sources of municipal administration, on maps and plans, the thesis, The Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague, 2011, 90 p., 6 app. The thesis covers the changes of the environment of the city of Rychnov nad Kněžnou and its neighbourhood between the two world wars. In terms of the selected sources of municipal administration, the objective of the thesis is to detect whether the municipal documents contain relevant information and how much of it. The thesis is divided into chapters according to the sources that were harvested. The introduction covers the brief history of Rychnov nad Kněžnou. The main body focuses on the changes of the urban area in terms of the selected sources and considers relevance of the sources in understanding of development of the urban area. The municipal maps are enclosed in order to demonstrate the development and the changes and to provide a better orientation. Contemporary landscape and the presence of man in it

The theme: \Contemporary landscape and the presence of man in it" is rather wide. The aim of the thesis is to focus on the mutual relation of man and the landscape, namely the symbolic and the manipulative relation of man towards the landscape. In the opening chapter of the theoretical part the term of landscape is de ned. The theme \New perspectives on the approach to the theme of landscape painting" is developed in the chapter about land-art as an artistic movement, comparing the European and American land-art and their di erent approaches to landscape. Further on the thesis follows the transformation of the landscape of pesky st redoho r and the re ection of it in the works of visual artists. The following chapters deal with the relation of man to urban landscape, to open landscape and to derelict landscape. The subject of the practical part of the diploma thesis is a photo documentation of an art installation in derelict urban area of Karl n. The theme is applied in teaching process by presenting artistic sets. During its creation the relation of art education and environmental education was considered.

Zoning in the USA: Chapter 1 - Territorial Order in the USA

Kapitola 1 uvádí celou Knihu "Zoning v USA", založenou na informacích z internetu. Kapitola 1 je pokusem o souhrn všech poznatků o zoningu, jako metodě správy území USA. Kniha byla dokončována v průběhu tzv. hypotékové krize v USA, která později přešla do celkové globální krize a globální recese. Již první fáze - hypotéková krize - hluboce zasáhla do bydlení, tím i hospodaření s bytovým fondem samozřejmě i do správy území. Celkový obraz řádu v území USA se tím pravděpodobně změní. Co se nezmění, je závažnost tématu správy území, a zájem obyvatel ISA i institucí na všech úrovních, tak jako tomu bylo dosud. Zainteresovaným čtenářům - odborníkům autor proto doporučuje se po seznámení s Kapitolami 2, 3 a 4 ke Kapitol 1 vrátit a případně diskutovat některé její závěry.
