Relationship between egg size and incubation time in geckos

Previous studies of the relationship between egg size and the embryonic development time showed a positive correlation between the two variables at interspecies level, thus offering the idea that the evolution of the latter could be a limiting factor for enlarging the size of eggs during evolution. Some research into interspecies and intraspecific level of reptiles doesn't confirm this correlation. At the same time, the relationship between the development time and egg size is influenced by many factors, such as shifts in ontogenetic stages of the embryo at the time of ablation of eggs, due to temperature and humidity, the presence of embryonic diapause during embryogenesis or synchronization of hatching time, of which the authors of previous studies took no account or filtered out inaccurately. I think that most of these factors can be well controlled in intraspecific studies, but, variation in egg size within species also tends to be small, which prevents a reliable test for correlation. The solution can be to compareclosely related species with high variability in the size of the eggs, in our case the geckos of the genus Paroedura and family Eublepharidae. Effect of stress factors on carotenoid production in isolated soil algae strains

Microscopic green algae produce a number of beneficial substances. The commercially used ones include mainly pigments, especially secondary carotenoids. While primary carotenoids are part of the photosynthetic apparatus, secondary carotenoids are produced only under certain specific conditions (e.g. high exposure to light, nitrogen deficiency). Secondary carotenoids have antioxidant properties that protect the cell from adverse effects. The strains currently in commercial use and the strains that are tested for potential use come almost exclusively from algal collections, so this thesis focuses on strains isolated from nature. Two strains of aeroterrestrial green unicellular algae, which showed potential of producing carotenoids, were found and isolated. These strains were identified as Tetracystis pulchra (clade Dunaliellinia) and Tetracystis sp., a strain related to Tetracystis tetraspora SAG 98.80, belonging to the clade Stephanosphaerinia. The culture conditions for T. pulchra were subsequently optimized and then the culture was subjected to a series of experiments, examining the effect of stress factors on carotenoid formation and accumulation. Ontogenetic development and behaviour of captive Blue-winged Kookaburra (\kur{Dacelo leachii})

The Blue-winged Kookaburra is among the species of birds in which there is a sex dimorphism manifested in two characteristics. The first is the more pronounced coloration of the tail of the male; the second is the weight difference between the sexes. The female is about 70 - 100 grams heavier than the male. These differences do not occur earlier than after the first year of life. Although globally, there are 133 individuals of the Blue-winged Kookaburra (61 males, 58 females, 14 young) in human care in 45 institutions in 5 regions, it is successfully reproduced in only 9 institutions. Ostrava Zoo, as one of the three zoos and zoo parks in the world, keeps the Blue-winged Kookaburras in a group of eight, which is the optimal number of individuals forming a breeding cooperative group. In breeding seasons 2011 - 2016, Ostrava Zoo showed excellent results in breeding these Coraciiformes, with 15 successfully raised individuals. It therefore provided the data, together with Prague Zoo. This diploma thesis is a summary of own ethological observations at Ostrava Zoo and of a short observation at Prague Zoo. Summarizing the data from these two zoos, the thesis assesses weight differences of fertilized and unfertilized eggs, ontogenesis, growth rate and sex of the Blue-winged Kookaburras. On the basis of the growth and weight differences between the sexes, it deals with the sex determination of the young. It further describes social behaviour and vocalization within a breeding group with a predominance of females, evaluates general group relationships, and compares the results with a wild population
Are there any temperature related changes in morphological integration of Micrasterias cells?

Micrasterias rotata is a phylogenetically and morphologically well defined species that is widely distributed in Central Europe in a broad temperature gradient. For its complex cell shape Micrasterias rotata is a suitable model organism for cell morphogenesis research. This thesis investigated whether there could be a different pattern in morphological integration resulting from the temperature stress in Micrasterias rotata cells cultivated on a temperature gradient. The optimum and a limits of growth on the temperature gradient were related to the sampling locations of the studied strains isolated from a lowland wetland and an high alpine lake. Differences in the growth rates among the strains suggested a local adaptation to the climatic conditions of the original locations but relatively high values of the assumed optimum growth temperature suggested an intra- species evolutionary adaptation. The temperature-related size reduction rule was not confirmed; however, a similar pattern of variation in shape occurred in both strains. Differences in growth parameters in SGA / IUGR children and patiens with growth hormone deficiency treated with recombinant growth hormone

In the Czech Republic is born to 5 % of SGA / IUGR children, about 5, 000 children a year, and their incidence is increasing. In 10 - 15 % does not occur postnatal compensation growth acceleration and growth retardation is then further deepens. Since 2003, these children can be treated by recombinant growth hormone in supraphysiological doses. Master thesis brings informations about SGA / IUGR children and their growth parameters during the first 2 years from the beginning of treatment when the monitoring was carried out at three - month intervals. The results are compared with the group of patients treated with growth hormone for growth hormone deficiency. Growth data was processed by a group of 57 SGA / IUGR children, which was compared with data of 34 children with growth hormone deficiency treated between 2003-2015 with growth hormone. Treatment of both groups of patients was carried out by a suitable therapeutic protocol, with the dose of GH by the respective diagnosis. These parameters were monitored: body height and weight, growth rate, BMI and weight - height ratio of patients. SGA / IUGR and GHD patients showed different growth profile in the initial phase of treatment when GHD patients had higher acceleration peak after 3 months of starting treatment and steeper increase in growth rate....

Modelling population structure and their changes: Neolithic demographic transition in Central Europe.

Neolithic dispersal in Europe has been alternatively explained through spread of farmers (migrationist position) or by adoption of farming by Mesolithic foragers (indigenist position). Mixed explanations have considered a combination of both processes. Neolithic dispersal in Central Europe was traditionally viewed as migrationist process. It was believed that farmers colonized the area and replaced indigenous foragers. During the last decade, authors have adhered to integrationist view as they have observed the continuity between Mesolithic and Neolithic technologies. Interestingly, the most recent genetic analyses again invoked the idea of colonization. Surprisingly, little attention has been paid to demographic modeling. The farming quickly spread in Central Europe between 5 600 and 5 400 calBC. Assuming colonization, Neolithic dispersal in Central Europe would have to be associated with high fertility rate of farmers. Our goal was to test whether the fertility rate of farmers was high enough to allow them to colonize Central Europe without admixture with local foragers. Oyster bioherms in the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin

Frustration from shape and size variability of oyster's species Rhynchostreon suborbiculatum (Lamarck) is long known phenomenon. In current state of his systematic it is not possible to consider it fully satisfying. Is it is shown in study of genus Gryphaea by Jones and Gould (1999), that application of modern analytical methods, undoubtly lightens long-darkned places of evolution process. Idea of Videt and Neraudeau (2003), that shape variability of Rhynchostreon suborbiculatum (Lamarck) probably also mirrors heterochronic processes, introduces inspirative and good foundation for future research in this field. Occurence of this oyster is proved from huge range of sites in Bohemian Cretaceous Basin area. It is combination of rich occurance, unique preservation and variability of lithological settings, which gives us unique starting point for next step to solve significant problem. Based on population analyses consisting of biometrical studies supported by oxygen isotope analyses, in future, it will be possible to reach sufficient conclusions of this issue, and progress in our knowledge.
Age and growth of the European grayling Thymallus thymallus (L.) originally from different localities - assessment based on the scale analysis

The main aim of this thesis is to evaluate and to compare the age and length growth of European grayling in selected watercourse in the South Bohemia (Blanice vodňanská, Volyňka, Teplá Vltava a Otava) and in Austria (the Traun River and the Salzach River), focusing on the watersources of the Teplá Vltava River and the Traun River. Possible rules adjustment of sport fishing can give reasons eventually to be done on the basis of results in order to protect and to strenghten natural populatin of grayling. 53 individuals (fish) were studied in total which were in observed localities fished from 2011 to 2015 using power generator or fishing rods. The determination of age and growth were based on analysis of scales of the biggest individuals. The method of Rosa Lee (1920) was used for back-calculation of length growth. The oldest fish, 8 years old, was found among graylings in the Teplá Vltava River. The oldest fish from studied group of fish in Austrian Traun River where graylings trophy are occured belonged to the age group 5+. Graylings from the Traun River came up to faster growth distinctly which is related to more optimal living conditions (water temperature, the amount of food) in the pariticular watersource. Furthermore graylings from observed watersources in the South Bohemian region already grow up to minimum fishing length (30 cm) at the age of 3 4 years old. They can participate in natural reproduction only once or twice a life. Increase of miminal fishing length is absolutely eligible and it is the reason for increasing number of natural spawning and strenghtening of indigenous population of grayling.

The bachelor thesis is concerning of an financial crisis and its impacts to credit conditions of company loaning. In teoretical part there are basic knowledge of loans, interest rates and description of actual financial crisis. In practical part there is progress of interest rates and credit conditions. Result of this bachelor thesis is interpretation of an impact financial crisis on corporate loaning and recommendation for companies.
