It tells the history of matte painting and describes traditional tools, which were used for this technique in past and digital tools, which are being used nowadays. It explains basic rules, which - when followed - provides photorealistic results. Tte usage of composite photography in czech media - Photographs on frontpages of magazines Tyden and Reflex

Thesis called The Usage of Composite Photography in Czech Media - Photographs on Frontpages of Magazines Reflex and Týden deals with the form of photographic illustration and its role in media. The work introduces why photography is since its beggining reviewed as a realistic media, how this concept was influenced over the years by manipulation of analogue photography and how it is affected by digital manipulation thesedays. Photomontage has been used more and more on the front pages of news and social magazines since the start of digital age. This work, by means of in-depth interviews with authors of illustrations and analysis of visual material, evaluates the state of Czech contemporary media photomontage on the example of magazines Reflex and Týden. These two magazines use photographic illustration on their front pages inn a unique extent. The analysis concentrates on content and character of the photomontages as well as it tries to define the process of their making. Ethical aspects of the topic are taken into account as well. The main ethical point in this area is to differentiate news photography and photographic illustration. The work also describes techniques of production of composite photography.

AbstractAbstractAbstractAbstract This thesis presents one of the first attempts to uncover and analyze the phenomenon of immediately apparent digital photomontage born and developed in the context of the Czech internet, that does not attempt to simulate a photographic reproduction of reality, but instead to regularly comment on political events of the Czech Republic. Using an analysis of photomontages of Teo Adamy (aTeo), the thesis explores their specific hybrid means of expression and the methods through which it completely fulfills the essence of pictorial commentary. Besides describing the creative basis and inspirational founts of the montage artist, it also provides an in-depth insight into the category of the so-called pseudofilm, a specific part of aTeo's internet production, that consists of photomontages feeding off the medium of film, using meaningful parallels in film stories and pop-cultural film references, or even directly inserts chosen political representatives into well-known film scenes and thus draws upon universal mythological structures activated by popular films. Semi-Automatic Image Segmentation

This work describes design and implementation of a tool for creating photomontages. The tool is based on methods of semi-automatic image segmentation. Work outlines problems of segmentation of image data and benefits of interaction with the user. It analyzes different approaches to interactive image segmentation, explains their principles and shows their positive and negative aspects. It also presents advantages and disadvantages of currently used photo-editing applications. Proposes application for creating photomontages which consists of two steps: Extraction of an object from picture and insertion of it into another picture. The first step uses the method of semi-automatic segmentation GrabCut based on the graph theory. The work also includes comparison between application and other applications in which it is possible to create a photomontage, and application tests done by users.

Tools, Options and Using of Photo Manipulation

This thesis is focused on the photographic manipulation issue in a complex way. At first both production and postproduction tools are introduced, the tools used in many ways for manipulation with photographs such as photomontage, retouching and techniques creating specific illusions at the very moment the photography is taken. The impressions which can be evoked in the eyes of the observer will also be reviewed. Then the attention is concentrated on specific examples of the manipulated photographs throughout 20th and 21st century which caused public acceptance in analog as well as digital era of photography. Finally, some post-production editing options are demonstrated on several examples.
Digital photography post-production and its purpose in commercial sphere

Objective of this thesis is to define Photography Postproduction and present specific techniques of editing commercial photographs. Theoretical part is focused on the clarification of expression Photography Postproduction itself, it's understanding in the past and mainly actual application in distinct areas of commercial field. Practical part of this document elaborates on an implementation of digital composite. In separate steps are described different processes and reasons of their application. In addition, practical abstracts are included in form of photographs and videos, amending to the explanation of the techniques used. This assignment assume that a reader has basic understanding of a employed softwares, specifically Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.
Selected techniques for editation and retouching of portrait and figural photography

The subject of this thesis is processing digital photography for the purposes of marketing. Specifically, it delimits, defines and describes selected techniques of treating portrait and figural photography. The thesis begins by briefly outlining the history of photography treatment. It describes the situation from the beginning of photography itself up to digital image reconstruction, showing the developments and changes in the philosophy of photography treatment. Three techniques of photography treatment are described: retouching, stylistic adjustment and image reconstruction. A simple manual containing examples of professional work is created for each technique. The manuals are based on commonly used processes and techniques of photography treatment and show frequent mistakes and some possible ways to avoid them. All photography treatment is done in Adobe Photoshop CS4.
