Bílková, Petra ; Wiendl, Jan (advisor) ; Vojvodík, Josef (referee)
Univerzita Karlova v Praze Filozofická fakulta Ústav české literatury a literární vědy Diplomová práce Petra Bílková KONEC KARNEVALU poetismus na přelomu 20. a 30. let THE END OF THE CARNIVAL Poetism on the verge of the 1930s Praha 2012 Vedoucí práce: doc. PhDr. Jan Wiendl, Ph.D. Abstract In the first half of the 1920's, in the Czech avant-garde, a new art began to form - Poetism. On the basis of individual manifests and programmatic articles it was defined as modus vivendi. In the 1920's many principles and ideas were shaping the future, not only for the society, but also for the artistic movements. Poetism featured mainly an original concept of art and life; the authors of theoretical articles were mainly Karel Teige and Vítězslav Nezval. Within a few years the concept of life as a careless game and a source of joy faded and bitter- sweet topics began to penetrate Poetism. At this time, the poetics of Poetism changed from the original cheerfulness and everyday beauty to serious existential topics - the evidence is provided by many works of art. This transformation affected poetry the most. In poems made by authors, who came out of Poetism, inspiration thereby gathered is still evident; however, more serious issues are coming to the fore. Each of those poems expresses a distinct reconciliation with the...
Josef Čapek's Early Literary Work in the Context of Modern Art
Kováčová, Eva ; Vojtěch, Daniel (advisor) ; Wiendl, Jan (referee)
Josef Čapek belonged among those Czech artists who dealt with problems of form and function of a modern art work in the beginning of 20th century. Both theoretical reflections on art and his early fiction represent Čapek's specific approach to the debate about modern and avant-garde currents in the times of stylistically inconsistent situation. This thesis analyses the confrontation of aesthetic principles of these art movements. Its focus is to show to what extent was Josef Čapek influenced by the principles of the individual movements and to describe the way in which he acquired and modified them. The goal is to outline Čapek's path from a survey of modern forms to his own independent viewpoint. Key words Josef Čapek, Modern Art, Manifest Česká moderna, Neoclassicism, Cubism, Expressionism

Rendition of generation problems in three dramatic works (by G. E. Lessing, F. Schiller and W. Hasenclever)
Tranová, Huyen Chau ; Glosíková, Viera (advisor) ; Bučková, Tamara (referee)
The presented bachelor thesis deals with the literary depiction of generational issues in three dramatic works: Emilia Galotti (1772) by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, Kabale und Liebe (1784) by Friedrich Schiller and Der Sohn (1914) by Walter Hasenclever. In the first part, I try to approach the literary epochs in which the selected authors worked - the Enlightenment, the Storm and Defiance movement, expressionism, their lives and literary works. Furthermore, I analytically deal with selected works from the point of view of inspiration, connection with the thinking of the appropriate time and the characteristics of individual characters. In the last chapter, I focus on the elements of generational conflict, especially between which characters it occurs. The aim of the work is to interpret the generational conflict in individual works, to compare the ways in which such a conflict occurs in the contemporary social context, in which the authors of different literary epochs resemble or differ and what led them to choose this topic for their dramas. KEYWORDS generational conflict, Enlightenment, Storm and Defiance movement, expressionism, drama
The Esthetics of the Scream in Albert Camus Opus
Černá, Kristýna ; Ébert-Zeminová, Catherine (advisor) ; Fučíková, Milena (referee)
The main topic of this diploma thesis resides in the comparison of the expressionist painting and the existential literature in connection with the motif of screaming. Despite the temporal and geographical distance of the two artistic movements (we are focused more profoundly in the German and Austrian expressionist painting, while the main literary work of this thesis, the existential novel The Fall comes from the great mind of a French writer, Albert Camus), the research aspires to prove the interconnection of the two movements and their common tendencies, based on the analyses of chosen themes, motifs, technics, and structure. We propose the motif of screaming as the main part of the comparison, as it constitutes an essential axis of the occidental art, as well as the crucial contact point between Expressionism and Existentialism. In spite of the bountifulness of the various interpretations this motif offers, we have chosen only selected ideas and concepts. As far as the formal structure is concerned, the work is divided into three chapters, where the first two are focused on the origins, a brief characterization of the main point of the two esthetics. Furthermore, they describe their related counterparts of the visual arts and literature (the Expressionist literature and Existential painting...
Degenerate Art" and the Reflexion of the Great War in Works of Otto Dix and George Grosz
Procházková, Veronika ; Zelená, Alena (advisor) ; Pelánová, Anita (referee)
The most dominant features of the last century are without a doubt the two world wars, which became a subject for creations of many artists. The First World War also known as the Great War is a theme of many works of literature, which are up to now ranked as bestsellers. In contrast, the war-terrors on the canvases of German modernists are not as popular. "Degenerate Art" or "Entartete Kunst" is an important period in the history of art and the Degenerate Art Exhibition 1937 in Munich became one of the landmarks and also one of the most visited and also controversial exhibitions of all time. The boom of expressionisms at the beginning of the century and altogether the evolution of modern art presents an interesting antipole to the political transformation in Germany. On the one side, there is a new and for many misunderstood way of painting, which strongly criticized war, society, religion etc.; on the other hand, there is the Nazi ideology about the invincible nation and the vision of the classical art. War horrors were used as a matter in the works of many artists, but the most brutal and the most realistic are the works of Otto Dix and George Grosz. Otto Dix became famous for his fanatical representation of suffering and war terror. Dix was a front machine-gunner and maybe because of that, devoted his...

Ficková, Barbora ; Pech, Milan (advisor) ; Winter, Tomáš (referee)

Every artist becomes an object of interest of art historian right after he creates an artwork. The art historians are trying to classify him and put him into the story of art history.
