Development of visual qualities in children of early and preschool age

The thesis is focused on the development of visual qualities of children in the early and preschool age. The aim is to analyze current trends and research in the sphere of the early intervention for children with severe visual impairments with a focus on developing their visual qualities. The first three chapters deal with the theoretical knowledge about the development of children at the early and preschool age and the development of children with visual impairments, about the diagnosis of visual impairments at the early age and about the methods of visual training and visual stimulation. The fourth chapter consists of the analysis of current trends and research in the sphere of intervention for visually impaired children at the early and preschool age in selected countries. The analysis is realized by analyzing foreign professional publications, articles and research in journals or websites of the organizations that deal with support and assistance to people, or to children with visual impairments. The analysis shows that the system of the initiation of the early intervention for children with severe visual impairments in those countries is not the same. Parents reaction to the birth of a child with disability

Master thesis titled Parents' reaction to a birth of a child with a disability deals with the process of coping with a birth of a disabled child and strategies that can help the family. In the first chapter, the function of a family and roles of parents in comparison with families with disabled children were defined. Reactions of parents when a disabled child is born in comparison with reactions of other social groups is discussed in second chapter. Third chapter focuses on factors which can help the parents to cope with the aforementioned situation. The last fourth chapter then depicts five families that shared their individual stories. The thesis also describes specific phases of dealing with difficult life situations including children born with disabilities. The thesis aims to analyse how parents reacted to birth of disabled child and which factors helped them to accept this reality. A research method in the form of an interview has been used. A confirmation of the hypothesis and thus achieving the thesis goal has been achieved be means of evaluation of answers from five respondents. Provision of timely assistance to a family in a difficult life situation is the primary goal of early intervention. Theoretical possibilities of early intervention are outlined in the introduction of the work. The study offers a view of early intervention not only in the context of disability but also focuses on the issue of threat to the development of a child with psychosocial risks. The theoretical knowledge is based on foreign experience, confirming the importance and necessity of early intervention in socially disadvantaged families. Results of a comparative analytical study are presented in the research part. We have opted for a qualitative approach to data treatment, with the aim to understand the phenomena of early intervention in the context of the given country. Possibilities of Psychosocial Support for Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

The first part of the thesis summarizes theoretical knowledge of the areas that relate to the characteristics of pervasive developmental disorders, as well as chapter focused on family and compensatory mechanisms with the diagnosis and the adoption of a child. Next chapter describe helping professions and it is a brief introduction of specific professions with who I have the opportunity to meet and get to know that their work and the methods used with a target group of preschool children with ASD. I consider the importance of an early intervention in terms of working with the family and the child to be important, therefore, I focus on diagnostic methods and organization APLA Prague and Central Bohemia. I had the opportunity to attend several practices in this organization and I got to know methods of working with clients with autism. Overall, this practice must be assessed as very beneficial. System and work of the organization is actually a good example for practice. I will try to describe this organization in the form of case studies and interviews with families. This thesis deals with orientation and mobility (O&M) of children with visual and multiple disabilities in early childhood years. It provides basic information about individuals with visual and multiple disabilities, about early childhood, about early intervention, about O&M, about importance of family and about possibilities of support in early learning. The main attention is focused on content areas of O&M in early childhood years and devices O&M for children. It also deals with the situation in the sphere of O&M for children in early childhood in the Czech Republic.
