Drugs Issue in Tábor
ZELENDOVÁ, Eliška
The thesis deals with drug problems in the town of Tábor and its surroundings. The aim is to get information about Tábor's drug scene and the type of drug addicts in the area of Tábor. The theoretical part gives some general information about drug problems, explains some basic terms, reasons of their origin, development and treatment of the addiction. It is also focused on Tábor's drug scene. The practical part involves a qualitative research of six dialogues with respondents living in Tábor. They have been or are drug addicts or drug addiction has somehow affected their lives. The aim of the exploratory part is to find out what life with drug addiction is like and what reasons lead to it and whether drug addicts have common features and personal qualities.
Psychoaktivní sloučeniny ve vodním prostředí a jejich účinky na ryby
SANCHO SANTOS, Maria Eugenia
Psychoactive substances are emerging compounds that have received an increasing interest in ecotoxicology as a result of their ubiquitous presence in the environment, and the possible effects over non-targeted fauna. They have been detected in continental waters at concentrations ranging from nanograms to micrograms per litre, mainly as a consequence of the ineffective removal in the sewage treatment plants. Within this group of substances, methamphetamine and tramadol were selected in this dissertation due to the lack of research about their potential effects despite of the high amounts reported in water. Methamphetamine, mainly consumed as an illicit drug, is an addictive psychostimulant with special relevance in Central Europe. Environmental relevant and higher concentrations of methamphetamine in water leaded to histopathological alterations in heart and liver in brown trout (Salmo trutta m. fario). The major changes in heart were microvascular injuries, infiltration and fibrosis; and cytoplasmatic vacuolation of hepatocytes in liver. In addition, apoptotic changes were observed in liver. The findings were very similar to those reported in human and experimental animals. The parent compound and the main metabolite, amphetamine, were detected in trout tissues following the order kidney > liver > brain > muscle > plasma. The concentrations of the metabolite were evidently higher comparing to the parent compound; therefore, the histological findings could be suspected to partially derivate from amphetamine. Behaviour - i.e. activity and place preference - and metabolome changes for the period of withdrawal were observed in trouts, linked to remnants of the parent compound and the metabolite in brain. Tramadol is an extensively used analgesic which singular mode of action provides added antidepressant and anxiolytic effects. Realistic concentration of tramadol in water was found to impair essential behavioural traits in the chub (Squalius cephalus) - a native fish species in Central Europe. The degree of the outcomes was correlated with the individual amounts of tramadol in brain. Exposed fish exhibited anxiolytic-like effects, illustrated by lesser bold and social individuals comparing to controls. In the boldness test, exposed fish were less frequently out of the shelter and moved a shorter distance, therefore, they explored the new environment less than control fish. The novel object recognition experiment indicated that, although they distinguished the new item, their activity was reduced, and they explored the new object less. The increased interindividual distance indicated that the shoal cohesion was disturbed. The behavioural traits were associated to the treatment, suggesting the influence of the pollutant over fish personality. Bioconcentration factors for tramadol and methamphetamine were low in all cases, thus, the probability of bioconcentration for these substances is very low. However, these compounds are continuously released into water, leading to their pseudo-persistence and the consequent presence in tissues. The occurrence in fish, and the parallelism in the target signalization result in similar actions in these organisms comparing to human and experimental models. Here we evidenced that the water pollution with the tested neuroactive substances in the aquatic compartment could lead to unexpected effects over fauna, and subsequent changes in the whole aquatic ecosystem.
Medical Herbs in the Czech Republic and their Use Depending on the Contained Active Substances
Casková, Petra ; Soldán, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Říhová, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis is focused on the use of medicinal herbs from the ancient past, starting with the world's earliest history of medicine, through the earliest evidence of the cultivation and use of medicinal herbs in the Czech lands, to their importance in contemporary pharmacology. The main aim is to create a concise, comprehensive overview of the methods of obtaining medicinal plants, including their collection and cultivation, their processing and subsequent possibilities of use. This thesis also includes ways of protecting plant species on the basis of regulations and laws within the European Union and in the Czech Republic. It also introduces individual species of the most commonly cultivated or collected medicinal plants and contains data on production, export and import within the Czech Republic. A list of substances contained in the drug and their effects on the human organism is also included in this thesis. In the next section, the most used medicinal herbs in the Czech Republic are listed, sorted accoding to their effects. The appendix contains a glossary of the most frequently used technical terms related to this subject. The second part of the appendix contains 33 photographs of selected medicinal plants mentioned in this thesis. The conclusion is dedicated to a summary of current trends in...
Criminological Aspects of the Drug-related Crime
Novák, Radek ; Vokoun, Rudolf (advisor) ; Gřivna, Tomáš (referee)
1 Abstract The thesis is aimed at criminological aspects of drug-related crime. Author has chosen: development and the significant causes of drug-related crime, characteristics of the offenders and crime kontrol as specific aspects to deal with. A special chapter is focused on one specific type of drug - methamphetamin (pervitin). First chapter is introductory and defines basic terminology used in the thesis. Second chapter is focused on develompent of drug-related crime. It specifies the main causes of the crime increase and development of an open drug market. It also contains a statistical analysis and trends. The third chapter deals with drug crime offenders. Author tries to select different points of view to find some typical characteristics of them. He also tries to find some trends (using published criminal career researches) that make them different from other kinds of criminals. The fourth chapter is focused on the actual problems connected with methamphetamin (pervitin). Author explains the main causes that make the Czech republic number one producer of this drug in Europe. He sees a lasting availability of the key precursor - pseudoephedrine as a crucial factor. Together with that author emphasizes a hypothesis that most of the pharmaceutical products (with pseudoephedrine) sold in our country...

Budinská, Blanka ; Richterová-Těmínová, Martina (advisor) ; Kuda, Aleš (referee)
This bachelor work deals with the relations between traumatic experiences in childhood, deficient or dysfunctional family environment and the possible future development of addictive behaviors in women. It turns out that the experience of traumatic events in childhood can cause long-term and sometimes irreversible problem completely. These problems may be based on the circumstances involved in the future addictive behaviors. Based on the stories I have from women in residential treatment or after treatment heard with their consent and also due to the processing of information which I received, I find role in their next life and behavior should or could have this traumatic experience in their childhood.

Thesis abstract Author's name: Vendula Perglerová School: Charles University in Prague, Philosophical Faculty, Department of Education Program: Master full-time study of education Title: Specifics of work with adolescent drug abusers Consultant: PhDr. M. Vítečková, Ph.D. Number of pages: 97 Key words: addiction, drug, adolescent drug users, therapy, case study The aim of this thesis is to understand the mechanisms of addiction in adolescent drug users, to describe their specifics and to provide on this basis a guide to choosing effective means of help in treatment of adolescent drug abusers. It monitors the process of origination and progress of substance addiction. It illustrates possibilities of treatment in individual phases of the addiction process. It introduces a concrete treatment program targeted on adolescent drug abusers. Practical part describes five individual cases of adolescent drug abusers, examines causes of substance abuse in each of them and characterizes individual treatment approach based on them.
