Political influences on Czechoslovak Radiojournal between September 1938 and March 1939
Veverka, Luboš ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
In the present work we strive to describe those political phenomena which influenced, directly or indirectly, Radiojournal Ltd., the only radio broadcaster in Czechoslovakia during 1923 - 1939. However, it is the period of the so-called 'second republic' that can be approximately set between the conclusion of the Munich Pact at the end of September 1938 and the occupation of the rest of Czechoslovakia on 15th March 1939, which is in the centre of our attention. At that time, the system of politics, power and social situation underwent a reconstitution marked above all by centralising efforts hand in hand with the suppression of liberal and democratic principles. Sometimes we talk about the so-called 'authoritative democracy'. Radiojournal could not escape these changes. Formally, it was a private company with 51 % of shares owned by the state. And civil servants or politicians themselves were members of the managing and supervisory bodies of this institution ever since 1925. This situation was maintained also during the 'second republic' when the grip of the state became even stronger. In the new situation, proposals were made to nationalize the institution. However, a number of changes were not implemented after all due to the short duration of the 'second republic's' domain. Many of these...

The presented rigorous thesis aims to analyse the structural transformation of press and the subsystem of the regional as well as local press in terms of mutual connections by means of explanatory and methodological research. The subsystem characteristics are based on the content, formal and geographical concepts; the connections with the system level are clarified. The developmental trends at the micro and macro level enable to monitor the changes of the media landscape after 1989. The transformation process is divided into phases and diversity encountered in transition countries is explained. Macro-level and micro-level factors of structural transformation are analysed in detail. The concept of the system microclimate enabled to monitor the sub-media as well as media space in the context of intermediary system. This causal link is an integral part of the transformation process, which is why the finding of a common ground between the social environment and subsystem of the regional and local press promotes the understanding of the observed characteristics and also creates its own microclimate for the new resulting concepts. The most significant social impacts of structural transformations are shown in the transfer semantics. The methodological part enabled to anchor the research for subsequent...

Pavlova, Aleksandra ; Němec, Jan (advisor) ; Cibulková, Petra (referee)
The thesis aims at analyzing the consequences of centralization policies in Russia and its impact on the quality of democracy in the country. Centralization is believed to strengthen states' political power by increasing the effectiveness of governance and proliferation of secession movements. However centralization is also very often associated with antidemocratic governance because it implies the limitation of local authorities' power which can lead to decrease of local official's responsiveness, people participation etc. Thus there should be taken into account many factors when assessing whether the centralization policy is necessary or not.
