Vietnamese immigrants in Prague before and after 1989 in transgenerational and transnational perspective

This thesis presents the results of a historical investigation of the arrival and presence of Vietnamese immigrants in Prague between 1974 and 1993. Methodologically, the research is based on interviews with witnesses of the program of socialist internationalism and on the study of the Czechoslovak government administrative documents from the period between 1974, ie. the year the signing of the Agreement between the Government Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam about employing Vietnamese citizens in Czechoslovak organizations1 , with a milestone in 1989 as the collapse of the communist regime, and the year 1993, as the separation of Slovakia and the establishment of an independent Czechoslovak Republic This work is not only based on the assumption that this program influenced the integration of the first generation in Czechoslovak society, but it also shows an indirect influence on the second generation coming after the Velvet Revolution, due to the program's effect on the emergence of Vietnamese social networks. Identity of the greek minority and its transnational activities in the CR

The main content of this Thesis is to assess the situation of the Greek minority in the territory of the Czech Republic in the context of its arrival, settlement and integration to the major society. The aim is to assess the current situation of the minority and its transnational activities. The Greek minority in our country is numerically stable and fully integrated into the main society. The typical feature of minority is the identification with other members of minority trough their organizations and also through the internal identification with the country of their origin (namely Greece), by the traditional culture, history, cuisine and language. The Thesis is divided into eight parts that are relevant to understanding the problems of Greek minority in our country in the context of involuntary emigration from war torn Greece in the 1950's. The methods used in this thesis were the secondary analyses and the field research (the questionnaire survey). The simple statistical methods were used to gain final result. Both the media and academic works present the emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina as a process which causes a significant loss of workforce and qualified professionals to the country. This work aims to point out the often omitted participation of Bosnian Diaspora on the growth of the country and therefore contribute to the discourse about Bosnian emigration. To show this influence, the paper examines the Bosnian emigration through the lens of the concept of transnationalism. This paper questions what fields are influenced by Bosnian emigrants and how do they influence those spheres. Firstly, the paper introduces the concept of transnationalism and describes the development of emigration from Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to the events in the 21st century. Current Cultural Situation of Transylvanian Saxons in Romania PhDr. Tomáš Drs Abstract The thesis deals with the current situation of the Transylvanian Saxons in Romania. Based on multiple field visits, it describes and analyzes the problems related to reconstructing the ethnic identity of the community, noting the minority's transnational situation and exploring the generational relations, the minority's position in the ethnically different environment or its political and revitalization activities. The thesis also attemps to reconstruct the actual historical development, looks into how memory is socially conditioned memory and lays out biographies of individual characters. Methodologically, the thesis draws upon the tradition of ethnographic research, working with theoretical concepts of ethnicity (Eriksen, Anderson), transnationalism (Werbner, Szaló) or memory studies (Halbwachs, Assmann, Nora). The aim of the thesis is to introduce the Transylvanian Saxons and other groups commonly referred to as Romanian Germans in the Czech environment. Issues of translation in Miroslav Holub's poetry

Miroslav Holub, the most translated of twentieth-century Czech poets, has an integral place in Anglophone literature, yet he has received little attention from Czech literary critics. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to shed light on questions that arise from this singular situation. First and foremost, in what ways and for what reasons has Holub's poetry become an integral part of the Anglophone tradition and what artistic features allowed its consolidation? This thesis explores the aspects of Holub's poems and of the cultural and political contexts that helped the positive reception of his work abroad. Since Holub's poetry engaged with the British and American literary tradition in its translated version, the main focus of this thesis is on the differences and similarities between the dynamics of Holub's oeuvre in the original and in English. The first part of the thesis introduces Holub's poetry from the Czech point of view. The genealogy of his work is outlined in its broader literary and social circumstances, especially within the context of the Poetry of the Everyday. Czech migrants in Poland from the perception of transnationalism

The work deals with the current Czech emigration to Poland. It examines how its representatives perceive their integration into Polish society and at the same time maintain transnational social ties in the Czech Republic. The author is based on the theory of transnational migration. Within this the- ory, migrants maintain ties with both the new country and the country of origin. This creates a transnational social network that connects the space of two states. At the same time as this process, however, an integration process is underway. Migrants thus integrate into the host society without breaking ties with their homeland. The imaginary space in which migrants find themselves is called the transnational social field in which migrants' identities are formed. These migrants are referred to as transmigrants. In the theoretical part of the work, the author introduces the theoretical basis of re- search on transnational migration and transnational identity. He also deals with general migration to Poland and Czech minorities in Poland. In the second part, he explains the research methodology, focusing mainly on the (auto) biographical approach, data collection techniques and their analysis.
