Shoulder pain in tetraplegics and paraplegics
Hrůzová, Zuzana ; Hlinková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Gallusová, Veronika (referee)
The theme of this bachelor thesis is pain of shoulder girdle in tetraplegics and paraplegics. The bachelor thesis consists of teoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part of the thesis I present the findings about spinal cord lesions, anatomy and kinesiology of shoulder girdle. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to present causes of shoulder girdle pain in tetraplegics and paraplegics and options how to influence it with physiotherapy. In practical part I present case study of SCI patient with pain of shoulder girdle. The case study consists of entry and final examination and photo-documentation of therapy and wheelchair propulsion.
The Significance of Occupational Therapy in the Case of Male Sexual Dysfunction with a Cervical Spinal Cord Injury. Subtitle: For People with Neurological Profile NLI C4-C8 AIS A,B

Title of the Bachelor thesis: The Significance of Occupational Therapy Intervention in the Case of Male Sexual Dysfunction with a Cervical Spinal Cord Injury - For People with Neurological Profile NLI C4-C8 AIS A, B Bachelor Thesis Abstract This thesis addresses the sensitive topic of sexuality and sexual dysfunctions of men with an injury of the cervical spinal cord. The objective of this work is twofold; to break the taboo surrounding the sexuality of people with this disability, and most importantly to find solutions to sexual dysfunctions within occupational therapy that could be applied regularly. The theoretical part of this thesis summarizes incidence, diagnosis, and consequences of spinal cord injury, specifically in the cervical spinal cord. One of the vegetative results of such an injury is sexual dysfunction. In this work is described male sexuality, erectile dysfunctions, anejaculation, along with possible treatments and compensation. A chapter on occupational therapy summarizes general occupational therapy interventions with people with spinal cord injuries in different stages and defines the role of an occupational therapist in an interprofessional team of practitioners qualified for treating sexual dysfunction of men with spinal cord injuries. A framework for occupational therapy...
Effects of different physical activities on cardiovascular functions after spinal cord injury
Svobodná, Magdalena ; Honzátková, Lenka (advisor) ; Našincová, Zuzana (referee)
The impact on health, mental state and quality of life in people after spinal cord injury is enormous. Significant impairment occurs not only of sensorimotor functions. The autonomic nervous system is also disturbed to some extent, which is very closely related to the management of cardiovascular functions (and heart rate). The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of different physical activities on heart rate in people after spinal cord injury. The study included 30 people in the chronic stage after spinal cord injury, which were divided into 3 groups according to the neurological level of the spinal cord lesion in tetraplegics (lesion C1-C8), paraplegics with high thoracic lesion (T1-T6), and paraplegics with lesion from T6 below. Each proband completed 4 exercise tests on sports simulators (rowing, kayaking and cross-country trainer and Rotren) and peak heart rate values (SFpeak) were measured after reaching the subjective maximum load (according to the Borg RPE scale). The values of SFpeak were then statistically processed, evaluated and compared - within groups between sports simulators and between groups. The results of the statistical processing show that the sports simulators are not different in terms of reaching the top SFpeak. Although differences between peak heart rate values...
Increased living costs of tetraplegic with disability caused by an accident and their compensation by state contributions
Tučková, Vendula ; Kostřiba, Jan (advisor) ; Kotlářová, Jana (referee)
The theme of thesis is to define the living costs of person with the spinal cord injury in the cervical spine - tetraplegics. Tetraplegics are specific group of people with injury. Partial goal is to find out, whether state contributes and compensates health handicap of citizens enough. Thesis describes spends needed on one side and possibilities of state contributions on the other side. First part of theoretical part clarifies handicap of spinal cord injury and associated complications. It describes necessary compensational and medical equipment including process of its aquirement. Second part of theoretical part is based on Czech legislation and analyzes savings, advantages and contributions provided by social system of Czech Republic for disabled people. Practical part evaluates survey as a background for final conclusion of economic situation of tetraplegics. Key words tetraplegia, healthcare system, Czech Republic
Influence of cervical spinal cord lesion on cardiovascular fitness
Machač, Stanislav ; Kolář, Pavel (advisor) ; Vilikus, Zdeněk (referee) ; Nováková, Marie (referee)
Traumatic damage to the cervical spinal cord has a dramatic impact on determinants affecting cardiovascular fitness. In tetraplegia, in addition to diminished skeletal muscle function, impaired sympathetic cardiovascular innervation together with a dysfunction of catecholamine release is typically present. Individuals with tetraplegia are at a high risk of long-term inactivity, which increasingly contributes to the development of common civilization diseases. The aim of the current dissertation project is to investigate the cardiovascular fitness in males with cervical spinal cord injury (n=20) as compared to able- bodied males (n=27). Both groups completed exercise testing on an arm-crank ergometer. Arterial blood pressure response to exercise, peak oxygen consumption and peak heart rate were the primary outcome variables. In the first part of the study, a graded maximal arm- crank ergometer test to the subjective exhaustion was performed for the inter-group peak exercise comparison. The peak power dramatically differs between the groups and could be an important confounding factor limiting the evaluation of a physiologic response related to the equivalent physical loading. Therefore, in the second part of the study, individuals of the control group completed a second graded arm-crank ergometer...
Training for autocatheterization in patients with spinal cord lesions from the perspective of an occupational therapist
Šestáková, Eva ; Kulhánková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Čábelková, Alžběta (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the rehearsal of self-catheterisation by spinal lesion patients from the occupational therapist's point of view. The aim of the thesis is to create a selfcatheterisation manual for patients after spinal lesion, which might be beneficial for paraplegic as well as tetraplegic patients. The manual contains information about the self- catheterisation procedure and offers instructions, methods and alternatives of compensatory aids and strategies for becoming independent in one of the ADL activities - urinary bladder emptying. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part clearly explains the problems of tetraplegia and the level of disability and analyses the effects of spinal injury to urinary bladder functioning. The practical part is concerned with the benefits of the Self-catheterisation Rehearsal by Spinal Lesion Patients from the Occupational Therapist's Point of View manual which were examined through a qualitative research. Two case studies including a detailed medical history, the course of therapies and therapy evaluation were created through this research method. The Self-catheterisation Rehearsal by Spinal Lesion Patients from the Occupational Therapist's Point of View manual is to be found in the practical part of this...
