Experimental reactors for combustion of biomass and municipal solid waste
Bialožyt, Michal ; Juřena, Tomáš (referee) ; Recman, Milan (advisor)
The main purpose of this thesis is background research about experimental reactors for combustion process research. Mainly semted on reactors with fixed bed for alternative fuels, such as biomass and municipal solid waste. Mathematical modeling of the combustion process with modern software products and its optimalization is not possible without input data gathering from these facilities. Thesis should serve as a source of information for building a new experimental reactor.
Analysis of slope prone to sliding
Píchová, Sylvie ; Erbenová, Alexandra (referee) ; Paseka, Antonín (advisor)
The diploma thesis illustrates landslide investigation, geophysical and engineering-geological landslide survey and landslide stability reconnaissance. Static calculations based on FEM were performed in the GEO5 program. A back analysis of the landslide mathematical model was executed, which resulted in the reliability of the static landslide assessment. The complicated stabilization construction of the pile and micropile walls were optimized by mathematical modeling of successive phases of construction. The method of execution of construction work during the landslide rehabilitation was designed as well as the dimensions of reinforcing structures.
Calculation of pressure losses of flue gas ducts using mathematical modeling
Suchý, Václav ; Skála, Zdeněk (referee) ; Pospíšil, Jiří (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the calculation of pressure losses in the flue gas ducts. First part of this work describes properties of flue gas and flow dynamics. Part of the theoretical analysis was detailed study of pipeline elements with emphasis on the reasons for the existence of pressure loss in the flow, calculations of the resistance coefficients and possible methods of reducing the losses. In the practical part, a model of the pressure loss calculation of the existing flue gas line installed in the incineration plant was created. At the end of the thesis a proposal for optimization of this route was made with emphasis on the reduction of the overall pressure loss. By optimization the pressure drop of the specified route was reduced from 3581 Pa to 2647 Pa, i.e by 26% and the required power input of the fan was reduced from 225 kW to 166,5 kW.
Modeling of water quality in the water supply network
Dukát, Petr ; Rajnochová, Markéta (referee) ; Ručka, Jan (advisor)
This thesis looks at water quality modelling in the water network, focusing on water age. The initial part of the work identifies the factors that lead to an increase in water age in water supply networks. The theoretical part of the work presents the mathematical relationships and logistical steps that software tools apply to simulate water quality indicators in a water supply network. In the practical part of the work, a hydraulic model of a water distribution system with a total length of 302,1 km was constructed. Measurement campaign was carried out to calibrate and verify created hydraulic model. Using this hydraulic model, water age for existing and possible scenarios was simulated. The results of the work have revealed parts of the water supply network containing high water age and are intended to encourage the progressive water distribution systems management philosophy.
Cleaning effect of unconventional filtration materials
Fialová, Tereza ; Hynánková,, Eva (referee) ; Kriška-Dunajský, Michal (advisor)
Constructed wetlands and the soil filters are water treatment devices using the filter material that in most cases consists of natural river gravel, coarse sand or crushed stone. Master´s thesis deals with the research of cleaning effect of unconventional filtration materials, or more precisely with examination to load real waste water in a filtration column, to prove their ability to be used as an alternative medium that can ensure better cleaning effect. For the research work following metallurgical industry materials were used: fine slag and coarse slag 8-16 mm, materials from the natural character: zeolite, keramzit, a plastic material: PUR-foam. Also the traditional materials of fine gravel and coarse gravel were tested to compare the cleaning efficiency. Both the hydraulic and the cleaning efficiency of all above mentioned materials were tested. The examined hydraulic parameters are particularly porosity, hydraulic conductivity and suspended solids, turbidity and oxidation-reduction potential of both the inflow and outflow of the filter columns were determined. Accredited laboratory set the inflow and outflow of the filter columns BOD5, CODCr, total phosphorus, total nitrogen, nitrite, nitrate, ammonia and dissolved oxygen. By evaluating the results of the measurements it is determined which materials are suitable to be applied in the constructed wetlands and the soil filters. This filtration column was modeled by program HYDRUS and the result was compared with real results.
Optimization Models of Risk in Energy Systems
Tetour, Daniel ; Cabalka, Matouš (referee) ; Popela, Pavel (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with mathematical modeling of the resource allocation problem in an energy system with respect to technical parameters of the used resources. The model includes random input variables affecting the amount of demand and constraints related to associated risks. The thesis addresses control of the operation of various types of boilers and also extends the system with a heat storage tank examining its impact on the behavior of the system and achieved results. The optimization model is based on a multi-period two-stage scenario model of stochastic programming and works with simulated data, which combines real data, statistically determined estimates, and the use of logistic regression. The implementation utilizes GAMS software. When comparing the achieved results with the current state, it was found that the heat storage tank has a positive effect on the function of the system as it allows for extended usage of the cheaper unregulated sources by storing surplus heat, and thus helps to reduce the overall costs of the system.
Blood vessel segmentation and modeling in fundus images
Václavík, Jan ; Odstrčilík, Jan (referee) ; Kolář, Radim (advisor)
Studies of the vascular tree in the retina have applications not only in the medical field but also biometrics. The mathematical description of the retinal vasculature could help facilitate and improve the diagnosis of certain diseases, their automatic localization or to accelerate the identification and verification of individuals. The aim is to design and develop an algorithm that will automatically approximate major retinal vessels by parabolic, linear and kvartic functions. The main part of this thesis is therefore devoted to this issue, including vascular segmentation using Gabor filters, morphological erosion, thresholding, skeletonization and the resulting optimization of the approximation model. The quality of the produced algorithm is discussed in the summary.
