Sexuality and partnerships of people with intellectual disability: society´s perspective

This bachelor thesis is focusing on the society´s attitude to romantic relationships and sexuality of people with intellectual disability. The thesis is devided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the definition of terms like intellectual disability, romantic relationships and sexuality. Moreover it addresses specifics of romantic relationships and sexuality of people with intellectual disability, it warns of sexual abuse and it also tries to highlight the importance of sex education and providing information about romatic relationships and sexuality to people with intellectual disability. Finally, the theoretical part of the thesis shifts its attention to the rights of individuals with intellectual disability to lead a sexual life, then it describes the development of Czech society's attitudes towards romantic relationships and sexuality of individuals with intellectual disability and it also focuses on the prejudices and myths about sexuality and romantic relationships of persons with intellectual disability which are the most commonly circulating in society. The practical part leads to fulfill the aim of the bachelor thesis. The aim of the thesis is to explore the view of Czech society on romantic relationships and sexuality of people with intellectual disability, including the view on sexual abuse, sex education and providing information about sexuality and romantic relationships to people with intellectual disability. The practical part of the thesis uses quantitative research. A questionnaire was applied to collect data. Eight hundred thirty eight respondents took part in the survey. The bachelor's thesis can serve to increase the general awareness of the society on the topic of romantic relationships and sexuality of individuals with intellectual disabilities and also as a subject for reflection on our own attitudes towards this topic.
Development of reading in students with intellectual disability

The diploma thesis Development of reading in students with intellectual disability is a special pedagogical topic that extends to all areas of the life of a person with an intellectual disability. The theoretical part offers an insight into the issue of reading and reading interests among students with intellectual disabilities, the area of reading and reading interests, pre-reading is brought up, teaching reading methods, supporting reading and reading interests, basic information about a person with moderate and severe intellectual disabilities and education of persons with intellectual disabilities. The research part is prepared on the basis of qualitative research. The main method of qualitative research was semi-structured interviews, supplemented by unstructured participant observation. Work methods with pupils with intellectual disabilities in special elementary schools in Zlínský Region

This diploma thesis deals with work methods that are used in the education of pupils with intellectual disabilities. The aim of the thesis is to find out how teachers work with pupils with intellectual disabilities in special primary schools in the Zlín region. In the mentioned theoretical starting points, intellectual disability is first defined, the educational process and its specifics in the special primary school is mentioned, as well as the work methods that are used in the education of pupils in the special primary school. Information for the qualitative research was obtained using semi-structured interviews, conducted with twelve special education teachers. The obtained data were analyzed using a grounded theory design and open coding technique. The research revealed that special education teachers use a huge number of different teaching aids. They don't use textbooks much, and if they do, then those from Parta, Septima, Taktik and Nová škola publishing houses. In special primary schools in the Zlín region, they have a Snoezelen room, perform Basal Stimulation and some also provide individual speech therapy. Challenging behaviour in pupils with intellectual disability and autism

The diploma thesis deals with challenging behaviour in pupils with intellectual disability and autism. The aim of the thesis is to map the current reality of education of these pupils through the statements of pedagogical staff from pre-schools and elementary schools established in accordance with section 16, paragraph 9 of the Education Act. The occurrence, frequency, intensity and specific manifestations of challenging behaviour are examined, as well as the underlying causes influencing challenging behaviour, prevention and preventative approaches, solutions to the occurrence and escalation. The theoretical part provides a comprehensive overview of the problem and challenging behaviour in our country and in the Anglo-Saxon world and it deals with approaches to challenging behaviour. It also focuses on autism, neurodiversity and intellectual disability. The research part defines the aim of the thesis, research questions and methodology. The transition of a person with an intellectual disability from school to adult life through the prism of pedagogical workers

The thesis deals with the topic of the transition of people with intellectual disabilities from school to adult life. The aim is to understand this process and the factors that influence it, to find out how respondents perceive a successful transition and what leads to it. The theoretical background regarding the transition of persons with intellectual disabilities to adulthood is described. A definition of the transition process, its planning and domains are given. The available support in the Czech Republic, the issue of self-determination and the role of the family during the transition period are described. In the next section, adulthood, its periods and specifics for persons with intellectual disabilities are defined. The research was carried out within the PEDAL project. A qualitative research strategy and a focus group discussion method were chosen. The respondents of the survey were five pedagogical workers of schools according to Section 16 (9) educating pupils and students with intellectual disabilities in the last two to three years of schooling. Jana Pluhaříková Pomajzlová Title: Possibilities of occupational therapy in sheltered housing for people with mental disability and psychiatric disorders Abstract: The bachelor thesis focuses on the mapping and possibilities of occupational therapy in the social service of sheltered housing for people with mental disabilities and mental illnesses. Such issues of mentally ill or intellectually disabled people are described in detail in the theoretical part. Some problem areas of these groups are presented as well as potential of occupational therapy interventions. The current reform of psychiatric care, which is supposed to bring about an improvement of psychiatric care and deinstitutionalization, is being addressed. Stigmatisation and overlooking by society is also a common theme of people with mental and psychiatric illnesses. A family caring for an adult child with a mental disability

This bachelor thesis is focused on the problematics of families who raised and are caring for an adult child with a mental disability. This work aims to lay out how parents look at the situations in their family, in what aspect their lives are either limited or enriched, whether they perceive any changes in the methods of care for their offspring and how they reflect at them. The work also focuses on the resources from which the parents draw strength to overcome the difficulties tied to raising of their offspring, and the support they receive. The theoretical part describes the categorization of people with a mental disability and how the mental disability of a child influences the situation of the family. Furthermore, it establishes the meaning of core terms used throughout the work. Qualitative research has been conducted, and it consists of forms of half-structured dialogues with six parents (out of four families) who are taking care of an adult person with a mental disability. Many changes and limitations have been found in families due to the presence of a child with a disability. Parents perceive several negatives associated with caring for a disabled child, which directly result from the nature of the disability, as well as some benefits. The presence of a mentally handicapped child was not found to affect the parents' partnership. Furthermore, it was found that an important factor for coping with difficult situations resulting from care is the support of various types that parents receive and that parents cope with difficult situations in specific ways. Research shows that parents are very worried about their child's future.
Training of communication skills with pre-school kids with intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorders in the first year in kindergarten

The bachelor's thesis deals with the issue of communication a child with ASD and intellectual disability. The aim of the work is to reveal the current ways of communication for the child with ASD and intellectual disability entering the kindergarten and to set a suitable way of communication for the child. The partial goal is then to verify the functionality and suitability of the selected technique and to map the practice the childs communication . The work is divided into three parts - theoretical part, methodology and practical part. The theoretical part contains four chapters. The first chapter deals with the field of autism. It describes the basic characteristics of autism, manifestations, etiology and various types of autism. The second chapter deals with the intellectual disability, terminology, etiology, classification and manifestations in combination with autism. The third chapter deals with the issue of autism and intellectual disability in the preschool period. The last chapter of the theoretical part of the thesis deals with communication skills. The practical part of the work contains set goals and research questions. The research methodology is also described. A qualitative method of research is chosen for the research, specifically the design of a case study. The technique of observation, semi-structured interviews and document analysis was used as a method of data collection. The research survey includes a case study a child who meets the set criteria. The case study shows the chosen comunication methods of a child with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability and presents communication training with the child.

The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis describes the topic of children with specific learning needs, developmental disabilities and intellectual disabilities with focus on preschool age of children, their inclusion into the nursery school and possibilities of support and development in the nursery school environment. The practical part deals with a case study of a child with developmental disability at a nursery school, especially identifying his/her specific learning needs and ways to fulfill them in a nursery school. The information is gathered through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with a mother of the child, the pedagogical staff and a special needs assistant.
Sexuality of users with mental disabilities center STROOM Dub o.p.s.

The diploma thesis deals with an issue of sexuality intellectually disabled clients of the STROOM DUB Centre o.p.s. Its aim is to identify the centre clients´ sexual experience and to specify attitudes of the centre staff towards the clients´ sexuality. The following aim was to determine possible sexual risks that might endanger the clients. The diploma thesis is divided into two parts: a theoretical and a practical. The theoretical part is focused on the basic specification of intellectual disability and the concepts related to sexuality. The next part is aimed at dealing with sexuality within the facility, attitudes of the staff and the dilemma related to sexuality. The last chapter of the theoretical part is an introduction of the STROOM DUB Centre o.p.s. and a protocol about sexuality. The research part deals with given goals and research questions. The main goal of this thesis is to determine whether the clients of the centre have any sexual experience and what kind. The second main goal is to assess the attitude of the staff towards the clients´ sexuality. Two research questions were set. The first question: Do the clients of the STROOM DUB Centre o.p.s. have any sexual experience and which? The second question: What attitude have the staff of the STROOM DUB Centre o.p.s. towards the clients´ sexuality? The research part describes a method of the thesis composition, which methods will be used and describes the research sample of the respondents, thanks to whom the thesis was created. A method of qualitative research was used. The research sample is selected according to an intentional choice of clients, 2 women and 2 men. The second research sample includes 4 female centre employees. All these respondents were informed about the goal of this thesis as well as of research questions. A method of a half structured interview was selected. The interviews took place in a quiet surroundings in the middle of the STROOM DUB o.p.s. Their analysis is implemented through the Atlas.ti8 program.
