Vlastislav Hofman and the Czech Cubist avant-garde in Ostrava
Galerie výtvarného umění v Ostravě
Gold medal for stage design at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Art in 1925 in Paris. Is it possible to summarize the abilities of the all-talented artist Vlastislav Hofman? Hofman was primarily an architect, but his relationship to avant-garde streams also interfered with his painting, graphic, scenographic and design work. The exhibition at the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava, which was created in cooperation with the Institute of Art History, will present it in full and unforgettable even the only cubo-expressionist crematorium in Czechoslovakia designed and realized together with František Mencl in Moravská Ostrava between 1923 and 1925.

Vojtěch Kubašta and Movable Books
Brotánková, Alice ; Alt, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Vančát, Jaroslav (referee)
Numerous movable books, the so-called pop-ups, are being ascribed to Vojtěch Kubašta (7th ofOctober1914-7th ofJuly1992),anartist,whospentmostofhislifeinPrague.Majority of these titles were published out of Czechoslovakia - in other European countries, in the United Kingdom, but also in more distant Iran or Japan. Kubašta had a unique ability of transforming one plain sheet of paper into an elaborate three-dimensional scene just by cutting and folding its surface on the right places. This artistry of the Czechoslovakian illustrator and paper engineer made him famous and successful all over the world except in his home country. His books are being collected and exhibited, but the very personality of the man, who worked even for Walt Disney, is yet to be discovered. This thesis will examine the life and work of Vojtěch Kubašta. The focus of the text will be the form of his movable fairy tales and their impact on the reader. Answering the question, what makes Kubašta's techniques of making pop-ups so unique, will be the main goal of the presented research. key words: Vojtěch Kubašta (1914-1992), visual arts, book culture, illustration, pop-up, popular culture, Artia, Walt Disney, Czechoslovakia 1948-1989
Metamorphoses of the magazines for children and adolescents published before and after 1989
Bognárová, Ester ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Králíková, Andrea (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to describe metamorphoses that have occurred in children's magazines, which were published before 1989 and whose publication continued after the Velvet Revolution. Comprehensively are analysed magazines Mateřídouška and ABC mladých techniků a přírodovědců (from the originally planned six journals, which meet the selection criteria) since their inception to the present, on the basis of selected years in five- year intervals. Although the description of the literary component constitutes the basis of this thesis, attention is also given to the overall content and appearance, particularly the influence of political events on given periodicals. The assumption was that the biggest changes in all examined aspects occurred in Mateřídouška and ABC mladých techniků a přírodovědců after 1989. Carried out the research, it was found that in the case of both magazines same trends occurred on their pages: articles, reports and literary component have been gradually replaced by an amusing component, e.g. contests, quizzes, riddles (even before 1989); literary component significantly decreased in both cases after 2000; after the Velvet Revolution, both periodicals can be described as apolitical (whereas until 1989 its content was strongly influenced by political events in our country). Alén Diviš and Karel Jaromír Erben's Kytice
Lahodová, Kateřina ; Klimešová, Marie (advisor) ; Skálová, Vanda (referee)
This thesis deals with illustratons to Kytice ballads by Karel Jaromír Erben. It is divided into two parts. The first section is focused on relations of the illustrations and the collection of poems as well as the historical context and the context of other painter's works. I try to point out that Diviš'es illustrations do not represent a new artistic stage but a synthesis of his previous works from the forties. In adition, the illustrations are closely connected with the artist's own destiny. In the other section of my thesis I analyse individual illustrations from the point of view of their different technics and motives. Another aspect follows relations between the illustrations and contents of respective individual poems. To sum up, the thesis aims to introduce Diviš'es unique collection of illustrations as an existential message of an artis stricken by his fate; that goes beyond ordinary illustrations for the ballads of the gratest Czech romantic poet. In particular, much is focused on his education in painting and the influential events in his life that have had an impact on his artwork. Undoubtedly, a large role in his artwork was thanks to his pedagogical role at the Fine Arts University in the 1940s. Much of his artwork also reflected the political situation and social changes of the time. Mr. Tichy did not adapt his works in favour of the principles of social realism and thus also was discharged from the university. The following chapters are devoted to his actual artwork.
